Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the welterweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 1 - 4 - 0, fighting out of Sydney, Lavern Mejia!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Sydney, Ray Rangel!
The judges for this bout are Francis DeMontford, Steve Erwin and Hugh Johnson.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Rangel throws a leg kick that is checked
and Mejia counters with a nice uppercut.
Rangel misses with a two punch combination.
Mejia really does look like a pencil wearing a pair of gloves. Let's hope he has a gameplan to suit that ridiculous body shape.
Rangel moves in looking to clinch but Mejia pushes him off.
Rangel tries to clinch

and Mejia counters by moving into the clinch.
Mejia takes an elbow to the forehead.


It looks like Lavern Mejia has been cut.
Mejia on the defensive, avoiding the knees to the body.
Rangel drops down for a takedown but doesn't get it.
Rangel has had enough of the clinch but Mejia keeps him there for the moment.
Mejia throws a knee to the head but misses.

That's one minute gone in the round.
Rangel has a couple of punches blocked by Mejia.

Mejia manages to break the clinch.
Rangel looks to land a body kick but Mejia moved away.
Mejia has a nice red mark on his side after a thudding body kick by Rangel.

The fight moves into the clinch position.

Rangel breaks the clinch.
Rangel stuffs a takedown. It's all about dictating where the fight takes place and Rangel wants it to stay on the feet.
Rangel misses with a head kick.
Rangel fails to land with the punch combination there - jab, cross, hook, miss, miss, miss.

That's two minutes gone in the round.

and Mejia counters by moving into the clinch.
Rangel has dropped down and is looking to force the takedown but it's defended by Mejia after a bit of a struggle.

Mejia's corner calls for him to break the clinch, which he does.
The fight stays on the outside here - Mejia looks like he's thinking about clinching though.
Rangel fails in his attempt to clinch.
Mejia shoots in for a takedown but Rangel shows good takedown defense there and keeps this one on the feet.
Rangel throws a head kick that connects with a bit of head and a bit of hand.
We've seen a great period of action over the last minute or so - credit to both fighters for going all out!

and Mejia counters with a three punch combination, finished off with a leg kick. Nice work.

and Mejia counters with a stiff right hand.
Rangel fakes high and swings low for a body shot but Mejia manages to avoid it.
Rangel throws a head kick that misses and slips in the process. He scrambles back to his feet and the fighters circle.
Rangel closes the distance but Mejia moves to the side

and Mejia moves into the clinch.
Mejia prevents the takedown attempt.
Lavern Mejia has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Ray Rangel.

That's four minutes gone in the round.

Mejia's corner calls for him to break the clinch, which he does.
Rangel throws a head kick that misses.
A really sloppy takedown attempt there from Mejia.
Mejia scores to the head and body with a nice combination!
Mejia avoids a kick to the body.
The crowd applaud the fighters efforts here as the round comes to an end.
Mejia tries to clinch up against the cage, rushing in to close the distance. Rangel manages to break the clinch and circles back to the middle of the mat.
Ray Rangel seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.

Rangel lands a big head kick that sends Mejia tumbling to the mat! Rangel takes a step backwards and waves Mejia back to his feet - he wants the finish!
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Ray Rangel dominated that round.

The fighters get back to their feet, the hooter sounds and we're back to the action!


Rangel misses with a half-hearted attempt at a head kick.


Mejia is rocked!
Lavern Mejia is looking to throw some combinations by the looks of things.
Mejia get stunned by a cross and takes another one on the button. Mejia stumbles backwards and tries to bounce back off the cage but Rangel runs in and jumps on him with a leaping lead hook that puts him out! Wow, that was highlight reel stuff! Awesome finish!

Ladies and gentlemen, after 0:07 of round 2, we have a winner by way of KO (Punch). Ray Rangel!
