PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a middleweight MMA rules bout between Rick Showtime (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Takada Kumushi (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Showtime comes into the arena with Old Toms Hut blaring out of the sound system. The key to victory for Rick Showtime has got to be keeping the fight on the feet.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 5 rounds, for the middleweight championship of the world!
Introducing the champion to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 2 - 9 - 0, fighting out of St Petersburg, Rick Showtime!
And introducing the challenger to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 7 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Las Vegas, Takada Kumushi!
The judges for this bout are George Francis, Alan Glass and Tiny Johnson.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!

Kumushi throws the overhand right but ducks down into a quick takedown attempt. Showtime was covering up waiting for the punch and Kumushi finishes the takedown easily into guard.
It looks like the ref is thinking about a standup.
Kumushi throws a big elbow that misses.
Kumushi is working Showtime over from the guard. He should look to pass the guard and do a little more damage with these strikes.
Showtime throws some sloppy strikes off his back.
Kumushi throwing elbows and punches but not connecting, as Showtime works some decent striking defense from the bottom.
Showtime knows he needs to get back to his feet asap. He's simply no match for Kumushi on the ground.
Kumushi looking to sit in guard and control but Showtime gets the butterfly guard and sweeps. He's now in the guard on the top.

Kumushi looking for submissions from the bottom here. Moving his hips around, possibly looking for an armbar.
Kumushi not looking particularly offensive just at the moment.

Kumushi is throwing his legs up, looking for submissions. Showtime is aware though and is defending well.
The crowd are loving this. Great action here.

Kumushi working from the bottom, still in full guard. He's managed to get a loose triangle. Showtime doesn't seem to be doing much to defend here, obviously he feels comfortable in the position. Showtime manages to throw the legs off his shoulder and he's back into guard - no problem.
Showtime controls from within his opponent's guard.

Kumushi wants to stand but Showtime is controlling the position.

Kumushi has his foot on Showtime's thigh. He's trying to push off and get in position for a triangle, I think. Showtime works his way back into a safe position though.

Kumushi working from the bottom, still in full guard. He's managed to get a loose triangle. Showtime doesn't seem to be doing much to defend here, obviously he feels comfortable in the position. Showtime manages to throw the legs off his shoulder and he's back into guard - no problem.

Kumushi escapes his hips to the side and looks to be working for an armbar. Showtime gives him a little smile and shakes his head. No chance.

Kumushi is working an open guard so Showtime takes the opportunity to get back to his feet.
Showtime looks to be in better condition than last time we saw him fight. Obviously he's been working hard on his cardio.

That's two minutes gone in the round.
The fans in attendance giving it up for the two fighters, who have really let it all hang out in the last minute or so!
Showtime throws a shot to the body.

Showtime tries to sprawl but Kumushi drives through with a takedown into half guard.
Kumushi not throwing his punches with enough precision this time.
Showtime is trying to control but can't.
Showtime looks like he's trying to stand up.
Kumushi trying to control the action but Showtime is working from the bottom.
Kumushi is just content to waste time from the top position. Showtime takes advantage of the situation and regains full guard.
Showtime has momentary wrist control but Kumushi slips an elbow through the middle.
The fighters are starting to perspire pretty heavily.
Kumushi makes a bit of distance and scores with some ground and pound, still in guard.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.

That's three minutes gone in the round.
Showtime avoiding any damage from the ground and pound.
Kumushi lands a couple of digs.
Kumushi throws a big elbow that misses.
A big thud reverberates around the arena there as Kumushi accidentally thumps the mat. Hopefully he's not broken his hand.
Kumushi trying to control the position from guard on top but Showtime is wriggling around, looking for whatever he can.

The fighters are working up against the cage. Showtime manages to wriggle his way back to his feet, so the fighters are now clinched against the cage.
Kumushi misses with a hook from the clinch.
Kumushi tries to jump guard but he falls flat on his backside. Showtime smiles and moves away.
Showtime throws a one two combo.
Showtime tries to clinch up but Kumushi circles away and keeps his distance.
Kumushi tries for a takedown but Showtime sees it coming a mile off and avoids it easily.

That's four minutes gone in the round.
Showtime lunges at Kumushi with a hook that half lands and is half blocked by Kumushi's hand.
Showtime wants to slow Kumushi down by chopping away at his legs.
The crowd cheering loudly, showing their appreciation for the quality fight we're seeing here.
Some wild striking there from Showtime.
Kumushi shoots in for a takedown. "I don't think so" says Showtime as he avoids it easily.
Rick Showtime has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Takada Kumushi.
Kumushi tries to clinch there but Showtime circles away.
Kumushi misses with a takedown attempt - Showtime sprawls well and throws a nice strike on the way out which just misses.
Kumushi fails with a takedown attempt.
Kumushi tries to shoot in for a takedown. He's got hold of a leg but Showtime swivels and escapes.
Showtime lands a two punch combo.
Kumushi looks frustrated there after his takedown attempt is stuffed easily.
The crowd are going absolutely nuts as the round comes to an end - what a fantastic round of action!

Showtime closes the distance and looks for a trip takedown... aaaand he's got it - Showtime lands in his opponent's guard.
Kumushi looks winded!

Kumushi is looking for a triangle but Showtime pushes his legs off easily.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Takada Kumushi dominated that round.
OK. That's time! The bell goes and we're back to the action.


Kumushi tries to drive through with a takedown attempt but Showtime defends well and Kumushi ends up having to push Showtime into the cage where they will battle it out in the clinch.
Showtime is pressed up against the cage. Kumushi has hold of a leg and is looking to drag Showtime down to the mat. Showtime avoids the attempt though and has circled away. We're back to striking at a distance.
Kumushi tries to shoot in for a takedown. He's got hold of a leg but Showtime swivels and escapes.
Rick Showtime has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Takada Kumushi.
A left and a right from Showtime both land. Nice combination.
Showtime tries to clinch but Kumushi is having none of it.
Showtime throws a nice hook to the body that draws an oooh from the crowd.
Rick Showtime is looking to throw some combinations by the looks of things.
Kumushi shoots in looking for a takedown. Showtime tries to sprawl out of it but Kumushi keeps driving through. The fighters are pinned against the cage. Showtime manages to get underhooks and after a bit of a struggle, circles away and we're back to standing.
Kumushi takes a shot right to the liver - Bas would have been proud of that punch.
Kumushi shoots in with a takedown attempt and he has Showtime pinned against the cage. Showtime gets the underhooks and manages to circle away.
Showtime tries to bum rush Kumushi with a series of wild strikes but Kumushi uses good footwork to avoid the assault.
Kumushi is breathing heavily.
We've seen a great period of action over the last minute or so - credit to both fighters for going all out!
Nice sprawl there from Showtime as Kumushi shoots in.
Showtime lands with a right hand.
Kumushi fails with a rather predictable takedown attempt.
Wow, both these guys are really going for it!
Showtime closes the distance and lands a one-two.

That's one minute gone in the round.
Showtime jabs Kumushi right on the nose. Kumushi blinks but takes it well.
Showtime tries to clinch up.
Showtime throws a series of strikes that have Kumushi backpedaling.


Kumushi is rocked!

Showtime feints and then dives in with a takedown. That was a long way out but the feint bought him enough time to close the distance and complete the takedown. Now we'll play guard for a bit and see who can get the better of that position.
Kumushi is still in real trouble! Can Showtime finish him?
Showtime controlling from the top position.

Kumushi has his feet on Showtime's thighs here. He's pushed Showtime off and worked for a very quick armbar from the bottom! He's flipped onto his stomach and he's cranking hard on the arm! Showtime screams in pain and taps out! This one is all over!

Ladies and gentlemen, after 1:41 of round 2, we have a winner by way of Submission (Armbar). Takada Kumushi!
