Coming up we have a lightweight MMA rules bout between Chip Diaz (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Alex Higgins (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Diaz comes to the cage accompanied by Broken Sunday. Higgins has chosen ACDC - TNT as his entrance music. Both fighters look fresh as a daisy as they make their way towards the cage.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the lightweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 0 - 1 - 0, fighting out of Los Angeles, Chip Diaz!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 3 - 3 - 0, fighting out of London, Alex Higgins!
The judges for this bout are Alan Glass, Wesley Smith and Cecil Peabody.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!

Higgins gets a takedown into half guard.
We must be close to a standup if these guys don't pick up the pace.

Higgins stands up from half guard.
Higgins looks more muscular than last time we saw him. He must have been on the weights.
Diaz takes a punch right to his stomach. That took the wind out of him momentarily.

Higgins has closed the distance and engaged Diaz in a clinch.

Higgins shoots in with a lovely double leg takedown. Diaz manages to land in full guard to minimise the damage.

Higgins has taken the fight to the clinch.

Higgins pushes off and circles away, back to the middle of the mat.

Higgins gets a takedown into half guard.

Higgins decides to stand and escape the position.

Higgins fakes with an overhand right and moves in to clinch with Diaz, pushing him back against the cage.

Higgins lands a body shot in the clinch.

Higgins is looking for a takedown here. He's shot in and has managed to get it, finishing up in Diaz's half guard.

Higgins throws a wild combination but nothing lands.

Higgins fakes with an overhand right and moves in to clinch with Diaz, pushing him back against the cage.

Diaz ducks right into an uppercut from Higgins.

Higgins shoots in and gets a takedown into half guard. Higgins showed some decent athleticism there.

Higgins decides he's had enough of the ground and stands up.

Higgins closes the distance and clinches.

Higgins pushes off and circles away, back to the middle of the mat.

Diaz is working for a takedown up against the cage. He can't get it on this occasion though.
That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Chip Diaz. That's going to take a lot out of him.
The crowd are going absolutely nuts as the round comes to an end - what a fantastic round of action!

Higgins breaks the clinch and we're back to striking at distance.
Diaz misses with a takedown attempt - Higgins sprawls well and throws a nice strike on the way out which just misses.

Higgins moves into the clinch successfully.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

The referee calls time. The cornermen exit stage left and we're back to business.

Higgins decides to stand up and beckons his opponent to follow.

Higgins fakes with an overhand right and moves in to clinch with Diaz, pushing him back against the cage.
The fighters are starting to perspire pretty heavily.
Diaz throws an elbow but it's blocked.

Diaz is looking to control Higgins's leg but it's slowly edging free. Can Diaz avoid being mounted?
Higgins wants to stand up but Diaz has a hold of him and won't allow it.

Higgins decides to stand and escape the position.
Higgins tries to clinch up against the cage, rushing in to close the distance. Diaz manages to break the clinch and circles back to the middle of the mat.

and Higgins holds on and brings the fighters into a clinch.
Higgins stalls.

Higgins breaks the clinch and we return to the middle of the mat.

Higgins closes the distance and presses his opponent up against the cage.

Higgins's corner calls for him to break the clinch, which he does.

Higgins pushes Diaz up against the cage in a clinch.

That's two minutes gone in the round.
Diaz wants to get back to striking at distance but Higgins won't allow it.
Higgins lands a good knee to the midsection. Diaz won't want to take too many of those.
Diaz is looking to take this one to the mat.
Higgins lands an elbow inside that Diaz shrugs off.


It looks like Chip Diaz has been cut.
Nice body punch from Higgins - that landed with a thud.
Both fighters are absolutely exhausted here.
The crowd are loving this. Great action here.

Higgins breaks the clinch and we're back to striking at distance.

Higgins moves into the clinch successfully.

Higgins's corner calls for him to break the clinch, which he does.

Higgins feints and then dives in with a takedown. That was a long way out but the feint bought him enough time to close the distance and complete the takedown. Now we'll play guard for a bit and see who can get the better of that position.
Diaz looking to hit a scissor sweep but Higgins is one step ahead there.

Higgins has hold of one of Diaz's legs. Diaz is fighting the takedown attempt but Higgins gets the trip and lands the takedown into guard.

Higgins really doesn't want to stay on the ground with Diaz. If he can't get it back to his feet, it's only a matter of time before he'll be tapping out.
