Coming up we have a featherweight MMA rules bout between Joe Workman (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Hugo Martinez (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Martinez comes into a darkened arena with his song building. Sangre y Joseka - Para que las chicas bailen kicks in, the lights come on and the crowd goes wild! What a showman! Both fighters look pumped up here. Let's hope this is a good fight!

Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Tokyo, Joe Workman!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 1 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Tokyo, Hugo Martinez!
The judges for this bout are Shigeki Fujiwara, Yuuki Gou and Yukihiro Shimada.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!

Workman gets tackled into the cage by Martinez. Martinez maintains the clinch.

Martinez escapes the clinch and we're back to striking.
Martinez is looking to clinch but Workman is avoiding it.
Martinez tries to clinch up against the cage, rushing in to close the distance. Workman manages to break the clinch and circles back to the middle of the mat.
Martinez shoots in but Workman avoids the takedown attempt easily.
Workman blocks the body kick.
Martinez misses with a head kick.

and Workman counters with a takedown into side control.
The referee is pacing around the two fighters - he looks like he's thinking about a standup.

Workman loading up with the ground and pound but he's missing more than he's landing in this flurry.

Workman decides he's had enough of playing guard and decides to stand. Come on Martinez, up you get!
Martinez throws a combination. Workman tries to block but a couple of punches get through.

Workman fakes high and shoots in for a takedown but Martinez avoids it really well and circles away.
Workman really does look like a pencil wearing a pair of gloves. Let's hope he has a gameplan to suit that ridiculous body shape.

Workman changes levels and goes for a takedown here. Martinez fights it off and pushes away nicely.

Martinez closes the distance and after a bit of a stuggle, scores a takedown into Workman's guard.
Fantastic stuff here - a very entertaining period of action, which has drawn cheers from the crowd.

Workman has an omoplata and is looking to use it perhaps as a submission or perhaps to transition. Martinez is in a bit of discomfort here, but he's managed to free himself and has dived into side control! That didn't work out too well for Workman.

Martinez is looking for a kimura. He might have it! No, Workman has escaped the position, nice work there.

Martinez wants to work for a kimura but he's foiled early by Workman, who protects the arm well.

Martinez decides to change it up a bit and drives through with a nice takedown into half guard.
This has been an exciting period of action!

Workman is looking to sinch up a guillotine here but Martinez pulls his head out easily.

Martinez tries to score a power double leg takedown but Workman sees that one coming and sprawls well. That will dishearten Martinez somewhat.
Joe Workman has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Hugo Martinez.

The crowd applaud the fighters efforts here as the round comes to an end.
Martinez throws a leg kick but Workman sees it coming and checks it nicely.

Hugo Martinez showed his class in that round. I'd imagine he'll take it on all the scorecards.

Martinez has managed to wall walk up one of the corner posts to get back to his feet. Workman is pushing him up against the cage, looking to control the position.

Workman escapes the clinch and we're back to striking.
Martinez misses with a takedown attempt. He shot from a bit too far out.

Hugo Martinez seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.
Martinez throws a lazy head kick
and Workman counters with a two punch combo.
Martinez changes levels and looks for a double leg takedown. Workman tries to avoid it but Martinez manages to keep hold of a leg and drag Workman to the ground. Workman escapes though and pops straight back up to his feet.
The crowd applaud the fighters efforts here as the round comes to an end.

Joe Workman has stepped it up - he knows he needs a finish here!
Hugo Martinez is fighting for a decision - hopefully he's judged it right and he's actually winning the fight.
Martinez throws a knee to the body but it doesn't do much damage.

Hugo Martinez comfortably won the final round on my scorecard.
Well Martinez has outworked and out performed his opponent in all aspects of the game today. He was simply too good and the decision should be no more than a formality. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
