Coming up we have a heavyweight MMA rules bout between Eric Cooke (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and David Drake (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). David Drake has the eye of the tiger tonight.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the heavyweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 12 - 11 - 0, fighting out of St Petersburg, Eric Cooke!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 11 - 4 - 0, fighting out of Amsterdam, David Drake!
The judges for this bout are Andrew Berry, Paul Tew and Steven Brown.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Cooke takes a big uppercut there. He seems a bit wobbly but no, he's OK.
Drake scores with a decent looking hook.
Cooke walks into a stiff left hand from Drake.
Drake connects with the punch.
Cooke throws an off balance right hand
and Drake counters with a good right hand that lands right on the jaw.
Cooke shoots in for a takedown. He's persisting with it as Drake sprawls well. Drake wins this battle and keeps the fight standing. Cooke gets slowly back to his feet.
Cooke steps to the side to avoid the strikes from Drake.
Drake darts in and out, connecting with a jab.
Drake buckles his opponent's knee momentarily with a nice leg kick.
Eric Cooke seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.
Cooke circles away from the clinch attempt.
Drake throws a head kick that misses and slips in the process. He scrambles back to his feet and the fighters circle.
Drake looks to throw the jab but Cooke is out of range.
This is a great period of action - very entertaining stuff!

A momentary lapse in concentration from Drake enables Cooke to shoot in and score with a neat double leg. Drake manages to secure a closed guard as the fighters hit the mat.
Cooke not doing a lot at the moment. He'll have to show some more aggression or the fight will get stood up.

That's one minute gone in the round.
Cooke trying to control the position from guard on top but Drake is wriggling around, looking for whatever he can.
Cooke slows down the pace of the fight for a moment. He'll need to remain active if he doesn't want to see the fight stood back up.
Cooke lands a couple of decent looking shots.
Cooke controls from within his opponent's guard.
Cooke throws a big elbow that misses.
We must be close to a standup if these guys don't pick up the pace.

That's two minutes gone in the round.
Neither fighter has done anything of merit for a good minute or two here and the crowd are not happy about it.
Drake wants to sweep here but Cooke controlling him for the moment.

The referee has motioned to the fighters to stand back up. He just wasn't happy with the level of activity.
Drake has used his reach advantage pretty well so far tonight.
Drake stumbles momentarily as he takes a strong leg kick from Cooke.
We've been told by Cooke's head coaches at Max Poppers that he's been working on his takedown defense in preparation for this fight.
Drake throws a series of punches but Cooke avoids them all with ease.
Drake misses with a hook. Cooke ducked under it nicely.
David Drake is looking to keep the fight on the feet at all costs.
Drake misses with a double jab.
Cooke fails with a takedown attempt.

Cooke gets a takedown into half guard.

That's three minutes gone in the round.
Still in half guard, Cooke seems content to control.
Cooke thows a wild elbow that connects with the canvas.

Cooke throwing shots but they're hitting the canvas more than the man.
Drake told us pre-fight that he has been working on his escapes in training. Let's see if he can call on some of his new skills to get back to his feet.
Cooke controlling the pace.
Drake is trying to stand.

That's four minutes gone in the round.
Well. There's a bit of a lull in the action here and the crowd are starting to get restless.
Cooke throwing shots but they're hitting the canvas more than the man.

The referee has motioned to the fighters to stand back up. He just wasn't happy with the level of activity.
Cooke lands with an overhand left.


It looks like David Drake has been cut.
Cooke lands with a shot to the body.
Drake throws a low kick but it's checked well by Cooke.
Cooke throws a body kick but he wasn't in range.
Drake throws a one two combo.
Drake missing with a left hand there. Cooke was out of range so wasted energy throwing that one.
A right-left combo lands from Cooke.
Drake scores with a crisp jab that stopped Cooke in his tracks.
Cooke smiles there as he lands a nice right hand right on the button.
Cooke jabs Drake right on the nose. Drake blinks but takes it well.
Cooke on the wrong end of a nice hook.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

A close round but David Drake will probably get the nod.
The cut man is working on David Drake's cut.
The referee calls time. The cornermen exit stage left and we're back to business.


Drake will need to tighten up his combinations if he doesn't want to gas himself out, swinging at thin air.
Cooke tries to score a power double leg takedown but Drake sees that one coming and sprawls well. That will dishearten Cooke somewhat.

Excellent takedown into side control there by Cooke.
Cooke in side control, just content to control the action for now.
Drake is trying to buck Cooke off.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.

Cooke is trying to get an arm triangle but Drake is defending well.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.

That's one minute gone in the round.
Drake tries to work a leg under to get back to half guard but Cooke wriggles his own leg back out and remains in side control.
Cooke trying to control the position but Drake is working away.
Drake takes an elbow right on the bridge of the nose and winces in pain.
Cooke working the ground and pound but he's contacting the mat, not the fighter.
Cooke creates some space and throws a big elbow, but Drake sees it coming and moves his head just enough to avoid the strike.

That's two minutes gone in the round.
A few boos can be heard. I'm sure they will multiply if the fighters don't pick up the pace.
Drake is looking to regain half guard here but Cooke keeps moving and retains side control.
Cooke throwing strikes but Drake manages to buck up and roll into a nice reversal - now he's on top in side control!
Who's going to make the next move?
Cooke is trying to improve his position.

Drake stands up and we're back to a striking position.

Cooke connects with a vicious head kick that knocks Drake to the floor! Cooke dives in looking for the finish!


Drake is rocked!


That has opened up David Drake's cut even more.
Cooke lands a big elbow - Drake is out of it! He's waving his arms around but his eyes are closed and he's not intelligently defending himself - the ref has no choice but to jump in and stop the fight! This one is in the books! A TKO win for Cooke!

Ladies and gentlemen, after 3:59 of round 2, we have a winner by way of TKO (Strikes). Eric Cooke!
Eric Cooke decided to go for the less than humble approach in his post fight interview, telling everyone how he is going to conquer the world. The crowd seemed to like it when really that sort of approach could have gone either way.
