PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a heavyweight MMA rules bout between Paul Stone (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Jonny Do (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). These two fighters really are very evenly matched on the feet - it will be fascinating to see who can assert themselves in that aspect of the fight.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the heavyweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 4 - 2 - 0, fighting out of London, Paul Stone!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 27 - 29 - 0, fighting out of Las Vegas, Jonny Do!
The judges for this bout are Phil Schofield, Chris Edwards and Paul Tew.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Stone tries to clinch but is not successful on this occasion.

Do gets a double leg takedown into Stone's guard.
Stone looking to control.
Do working some ground and pound from guard but it's not doing any damage.
Do landing with the ground and pound.
Stone working the defensive guard well to avoid strikes from Do.
Stone keeping moving, preventing Do from controlling successfully.
Stone throws a couple of shots from the bottom but they don't land.
Stone looking for a sweep. Not yet Stone, not yet.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Stone looking to control.
Stone has his hands on Do's head, controlling the position.
Do distracts Stone with his right hand and drops a big elbow with his other arm.

That's one minute gone in the round.
Do passes Stone's left leg - he's now in half guard.
Do prevents Stone from improving his position.
My spies in American Fight Club inform me that Do has been getting involved in the gym's BJJ sparring sessions. Let's see whether that pays dividends!
Stone won't allow Do to pass to mount.
Stone keeping control of the position.
Do misses with a head shot. Stone uses the momentum to regain guard.
Do working from the guard for now, landing some ground and pound.
Stone working the defensive guard well to avoid strikes from Do.
Do has the superior BJJ but he's also working some ground strikes into his gameplan.
Stone keeping moving, preventing Do from controlling successfully.

That's two minutes gone in the round.
Stone wants to sweep but no luck.
Do trying to pass the guard but can't manage it just yet.
Stone is working from a closed guard but he's struggling to control his opponent.
Stone working the defensive guard well to avoid strikes from Do.
Do trying to control but Stone is working from the bottom.

The ref stands the fighters back up due to a lack of activity.
Stone tries to close the distance and clinch but Do swats him to one side with an open hand palm strike and circles away.
Do tries for a takedown but Stone sees it coming a mile off and avoids it easily.
Stone takes a body punch but keeps moving.
Do circles away from the clinch attempt.

That's three minutes gone in the round.

Stone closes the distance and clinches.
Do is working Stone over against the cage.
Do swings wildly with an uppercut but Stone uses good head movement to avoid it.
Stone goes for a takedown attempt but Do pushes him away and we're back to fighting at a distance.
Do tries to score a power double leg takedown but Stone sees that one coming and sprawls well. That will dishearten Do somewhat.
Do misses with a body shot.
The fighters circling - Do throws out the jab but it was never going to land.
Do swings and misses with a hook to the body.
Stone shoots in looking for a takedown. Do tries to sprawl out of it but Stone keeps driving through. The fighters are pinned against the cage. Do manages to get underhooks and after a bit of a struggle, circles away and we're back to standing.
A slow jab from Do misses its intended target.

That's four minutes gone in the round.

Stone scores a trip takedown into side control. Nice.
Do taking punishment in the form of punches.
Do is looking to regain half guard here but Stone keeps moving and retains side control.

Stone tries for a kimura. Not really close to a finish though.
We've seen a great period of action over the last minute or so - credit to both fighters for going all out!
Do tries to buck Stone off but Stone is having none of it.
The crowd thankful this round is nearly over.
Do sneaks back into half guard.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
Do is trying to defend against the ground and pound but Stone scores with a couple of nice shots.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Jonny Do dominated that round.
That's time! Stone's corner gives him a slap on the ass as he gets ready to fight.


Stone stuffs the takedown attempt from Do. Do gets slowly back to his feet.
Do shoots in but Stone avoids the takedown attempt easily.
Stone looks to clinch

and Do moves into the clinch.
Stone slows down the pace here.
Stone can't get the takedown.
Do tries to pull guard but Stone won't allow it.
Paul Stone has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Jonny Do.

Do is trying to trip Stone. He has hold of a leg but Stone is hopping around, keeping his balance for the moment. Do persists though and gets the takedown into guard.
Do is looking to work some ground and pound but Stone has wrist control.
Stone controls Do momentarily but Do frees himself.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Do trying to control but Stone is working from the bottom.
Stone looking to hit a scissor sweep but Do is one step ahead there.

That's one minute gone in the round.
Do wants to control from the top but Stone keeps moving.
Do preventing the sweep.
Do trying to control but Stone is working from the bottom.
If this pace continues, the referee will definitely step in and force a standup.
Stone is working an open guard here, looking to improve his position. No doubt that will leave him open to counters but at least he's being more offensive.

The referee has stepped in and called for a break in the action. We'll restart on the feet.

Do closes the distance and gets a trip takedown into side control. Stone quickly recovers to half guard.

Do throws a strike but Stone manages to get a kimura sweep and he's found himself on top with the kimura half locked in! This would be a real turnaround! He's torquing it... Will Do tap??? YES! He's tapped! This one is all over!

Ladies and gentlemen, after 2:55 of round 2, we have a winner by way of Submission (Kimura). Paul Stone!
