PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a middleweight MMA rules bout between Bastian Nokia (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Patrick Cote (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Nokia has a slight injury, which hopefully won't affect the fight too much. Bastian Nokia is staring across the cage at his opponent, tweaking his nipples... Tweaking his own nipples that is.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the middleweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 5 - 28 - 0, fighting out of Las Vegas, Bastian Nokia!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 7 - 7 - 0, fighting out of Los Angeles, Patrick Cote!
The judges for this bout are Don Winkell, and Jack Bonds.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!

Cote closes the distance, clinches up and gets a nice trip takedown into side control. Very smooth.
Cote wants to lay and pray for a moment but Nokia keeps working.
Cote tries to advance to mount but can't.
Nokia is breathing heavily.
Nokia dodges the ground and pound from Cote.

Cote working hard here to secure a kimura but he's not really in the right position for it.
Cote looking to punish the body of his opponent here but Nokia is avoiding damage well.

That's one minute gone in the round.

Cote stands up and beckons Nokia to his feet.
Cote moves in looking to clinch but Nokia pushes him off.

Cote shoots in and scores a nice double leg takedown into half guard.
Cote with a momentary lay and pray from half guard.

Cote is looking to take a break and control but Nokia is keeping him honest, looking to work from the bottom.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Cote is in a good position here but he's just trying to control... And he's not even managing to do that successfully.

OK we're going to have a standup here. Patrick Cote hasn't been effective enough on the ground and the referee wants a restart.
Cote closes the distance but Nokia moves to the side

and Nokia counters with a single leg into guard. Cote didn't expect that.

Cote is looking to get back to his feet but can't, whilst Nokia is controlling him.

Cote is moving around in side control but his primary objective seems to be to maintain the position.

Cote wants to stand up but Nokia is controlling the position.

A head kick misses from Cote.

Cote darts in and clinches Nokia up against the cage.
Nokia tries to pull guard but Cote won't allow it.
Nokia managing to block the knees to the body from Cote.

Cote manages to pull guard. Let's see whether he can land a sub off his back.

Cote closes the distance and gets a double leg, slamming Nokia to the mat! Nokia manages to get full guard.
Nokia wants to get back to his feet but he's too absorbed in his own little project and Cote manages to pass to side control.
Nokia is not content to let Cote control the position.
Patrick Cote has got the better of the ground game so far.

The referee claps his hands together and tells the fighters to work.

The ref calls for a clean break and stands the fighters back up. Patrick Cote wasn't active enough on the ground.
Cote swings away but doesn't land with a series of punches.
Cote tries a head kick but it misses.
Cote tries to clinch but fails miserably

and Nokia counters with a single leg into guard. Cote didn't expect that.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Patrick Cote showed his class in that round. I'd imagine he'll take it on all the scorecards.

Nokia moves out of range of the body kick.
Cote tries to clinch up.
Cote tries to close the distance and clinch up against the cage but Nokia paws at him with a jab and circles away.

Cote is looking for a takedown here. He's shot in and has managed to get it, finishing up in Nokia's half guard.
Cote wants to pass to mount but Nokia is defending the position.
Both fighters are breathing heavily.

Cote is looking for a kimura here.
Cote tries to pass the half guard into mount. Nokia knows what he's doing though and prevents the attempt.

Well. There's a bit of a lull in the action here and the crowd are starting to get restless.
Cote is trying to control the action in half guard but Nokia is working away on the bottom, looking perhaps to get back to full guard.

The ref stands the fighters back up. Patrick Cote was stalling too much, according to the referee.
Cote tries a head kick but it misses.

Nokia gets caught on his heels momentarily as he allows Cote to score an easy takedown into full guard.

Cote must be cautious of submissions here, given that his opponent has the superior Jiu Jitsu.

The ref stands the fighters back up, due to lack of action by Patrick Cote.
Cote throws a series of punches but Nokia moves out of range.

Cote shoots in from a long way out. He's driving through with the takedown attempt and he eventually gets it, landing in Nokia's guard.
Cote trying to control the position from guard on top but Nokia is wriggling around, looking for whatever he can.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
The referee looks like he's ready to step in and stand the fighters back up.

The ref stands the fighters back up. Patrick Cote was stalling too much, according to the referee.
Nokia moves out of range as Cote throws a body kick.

That's four minutes gone in the round.
Cote cracks Nokia with a nice right hand that draws applause from the crowd.

Cote closes the distance and clinches up, looking for a takedown. He shifts his weight and gets a nice trip into half guard.
Cote is nestled in close to Nokia, controlling him well. He's worked in a nice elbow to the side of the head as well, for good measure.
Cote wants to take a breather but Nokia is having none of it.
This has been an exciting period of action!
Cote is just sitting in half guard, waiting for something to happen.

Patrick Cote comfortably won the final round on my scorecard.
Well Cote has outworked and out performed his opponent in all aspects of the game today. He was simply too good and the decision should be no more than a formality. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
