Coming up we have a featherweight MMA rules bout between Benito Roach (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Carlos Astico (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). We have two fighters making their debuts here, so let's see who comes out of this one with their first professional victory.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the featherweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Montreal, Benito Roach!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Montreal, Carlos Astico!
The judges for this bout are Dillan Fox, Gregory Folan and Robert Douchet.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Roach on the wrong end of a vicious looking body shot.
Astico fails with a takedown attempt.
Roach keeps the fight on the outside.
Astico avoids a kick to the body.
Some bone on bone action there as Roach checks a low kick. Luckily it wasn't a particularly hard one.
Astico doesn't succeed with the takedown

and Roach counters by clinching up.
Astico wants to strike at distance but he can't break free of the clinch.

Roach lands a nice trip takedown into half guard.
Astico keeping his head moving to avoid the ground and pound.

Roach missing with some ground and pound from the half guard.
Astico wants to control but Roach passes into side.

Roach lands a nice forearm strike.
Astico can't do much from the bottom here.

Roach is trying to get an arm triangle but Astico is defending well.

Roach lands an elbow that was bordering on illegal but the referee lets it go with a warning.
Astico is writhing around trying to get back to his feet.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.

Astico slips a leg in and gets back to half guard.
Astico has no desire to be mounted, so is trying to control. Roach is working away from the top position though.

Astico looking to work for a kimura from the bottom.
Astico is looking for a sweep. Roach is wise to his cunning plan and keeps the top position.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.

Roach missing with some ground and pound from the half guard.
Astico gets full guard.
Roach cracks Astico with a solid left hand.
The crowd applaud the fighters efforts here as the round comes to an end.
Roach lands a couple of decent looking shots.
Roach postures up.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

That was a close round but I would say that Benito Roach will probably get the nod.
The fighters' corners scream their final instructions, as the referee calls time. Here we go, back to the action!


Astico doesn't succeed with the takedown

and Roach counters with a takedown into side control! That could mean trouble for Astico!
Roach is putting a hurting on Astico here, landing some big shots from side control.
Astico can't do much from the bottom here.

Astico tries to work a leg under to get back to half guard but Roach wriggles his own leg back out and remains in side control.

Astico throws a sloppy strike from the bottom. He's now off balance and Roach manages to pass to side control.

Astico on the wrong end of some ground and pound.
Astico tries to buck Roach off but Roach is having none of it.
Astico takes an elbow right on the bridge of the nose and winces in pain.
Astico is looking for a sweep.

Roach tries for an arm triangle. That looks pretty tight to me. Is this one over!?! Possibly, maybe, no Roach has let go of the choke. Obviously it wasn't as tight as we thought!

Roach drops an elbow to the side of Astico's head.
Astico wants to get back to full guard.

Roach not landing any meaningful shots this time.
Astico pushes Roach off looking to stand but Roach dives back in and keeps control.

Roach seems to be working for a kimura but Astico defends the submission attempt.
Roach scores with a couple of good hammerfists.
Benito Roach overall seems to be getting the better of the ground position in the fight so far.
The crowd applaud the fighters efforts here as the round comes to an end.
Astico is looking to improve his position.
Roach looks towards his corner to check for any instructions. The corner give him nothing to work with, so he cracks Astico with a short hammerfist. I guess that's as good as any advice he could get in this position.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Benito Roach dominated that second round.
That's time! Roach's corner gives him a slap on the ass as he gets ready to fight. This is the final round!


Astico lunges in with swinging rights and lefts but Roach circles away quickly and effectively.
Roach blocks a head kick by Astico.
Astico tries to grapple but his opponent circles

and Roach counters by clinching up.

Roach pulls guard.
Roach not looking particularly offensive just at the moment.
Roach is going to have to think about doing something other than just controlling because Astico is managing to avoid having the position dictated to him.
Astico trying to stand up but can't free himself from Roach's guard.

We may be looking at a referee standup if the pace doesn't pick up soon.
Astico trying to control the position from guard on top but Roach is wriggling around, looking for whatever he can.
Roach scores with a couple of body punches from the bottom.
Roach throws a couple of shots from the bottom but they don't land.

Astico is holding a leg here, probably looking for an ankle lock - he drops back and goes for it! Roach is in trouble! Is it all over??? No! Roach has escaped and now he's on top!

Astico is looking for a guillotine. You can't force these things though and Roach defends well.

Roach throws an elbow that misses. Astico uses the momentum to reverse the position. He's now in Roach's guard. Nice move by Astico!

Astico might have to switch it up a bit here because his efforts to control Roach haven't been going to plan, at least at the current moment in time.
Roach throwing rabbit punches from the bottom - showing the judges that he's keeping busy.
Astico lands a couple of digs.

Roach escapes his hips to the side and looks to be working for an armbar. Astico gives him a little smile and shakes his head. No chance.

Astico wants to get up but he can't break Roach's closed guard. He needs to be careful trying to break the legs open, as he's open to submissions here.

Roach throws his legs up looking to secure a triangle. Oh, that looks pretty tight, I gotta say! Astico escapes and throws Roach's legs to the side, diving into side control!

Roach is in a horrible position here, under a barrage of strikes, he's managing to avoid any damage.
Roach tries to get back to half guard but can't.
Astico wants to control the pace but Roach is squirming around nicely.
Roach blocking the ground and pound.
Roach sneaks a leg under to get to half guard.
Astico wants to control but Roach is keeping him busy.
The crowd applaud the fighters efforts here as the round comes to an end.
Roach holds on for dear life, maintaining half guard for now.
Astico seems content to maintain position for now, rather than mounting any offense.

And that's the end of the fight!
I would just about give that final round to Carlos Astico.
I think Roach has won this one but let's see what the judges have to say. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
