Coming up we have a featherweight MMA rules bout between Daigo Sato (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and John Lee Pettimore (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Sato's entrance music is japanese war music. A fine choice. Pettimore has chosen Copperhead Road as his entrance music. The crowd giving both fighters a great reception on their way into the arena. That's good to see.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the featherweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 4 - 5 - 0, fighting out of Tokyo, Daigo Sato!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 4 - 3 - 0, fighting out of Hilo, John Lee Pettimore!
The judges for this bout are Chris Saunders, Ryoma Takatsuka and Colin Fray.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Pettimore misses with a jab to the body
and Sato counters with a left to the body.
Pettimore takes a step towards his opponent and connects with a left hand, before circling away.
Sato bobs and weaves well there to avoid the strikes.
Sato looking to take his opponent's legs away with the low kicks.

Sato goes for a spinning back kick but it misses.
Pettimore misses with a looping right.
Pettimore thows a left - swing and a miss!
Pettimore takes an uppercut right on the button but keeps his composure.
Pettimore throws a hook to the body but it doesn't connect.
Pettimore throws a body shot but no joy.
Sato shoots in for a takedown but Pettimore shows good takedown defense there and keeps this one on the feet.

Sato dives in and scores a takedown into Pettimore's guard.
The crowd cheering loudly, showing their appreciation for the quality fight we're seeing here.

Sato is going to have to think about doing something other than just controlling because Pettimore is managing to avoid having the position dictated to him.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.

Sato drops back looking for a leg! Pettimore is in trouble here! The fighters roll with the hold and Pettimore manages to kick Sato off! Sato jumps back into Pettimore's guard.

The ref stands the fighters back up due to a lack of activity.

That's two minutes gone in the round.
The crowd are hurling abuse towards the fighters... You can hardly blame them though because there isn't a lot going on in the fight.
Nice body kick there by Sato.
Pettimore loads up on a big right hand but Sato slips the punch.
John Lee Pettimore seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.
Sato misses the jab.
A clash of legs there as Pettimore blocks the low kick.
Sato takes a body punch that cleary hurt but he's trying not to show any weakness.
Sato darts in looking for a takedown but Pettimore gets double underhooks and turns Sato into the cage.
Pettimore's coach down at Gracie Barra Hilo (Sauna + Bang for your Buck) was telling us pre-fight that they have been working on Pettimore's balance. Obviously they view that as a key factor in the outcome of this fight.
That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Daigo Sato. That's going to take a lot out of him.

Pettimore looks like he'd prefer to be striking at range right now.

Sato has moved round to his opponent's back and is looking for a suplex! Oh snap! He's tossed Pettimore clear over his head and slammed him to the mat!

Pettimore trying to get back to his feet but Sato is in full control for now.

Sato is looking to control Pettimore but Pettimore is wriggling around and keeping busy.

Sato is remaining active here, looking for the choke. The more discerning members of the crowd will appreciate his efforts.

That's four minutes gone in the round.
A few boos can be heard. I'm sure they will multiply if the fighters don't pick up the pace.
Sato tries to keep control of the position but Pettimore is staying busy.

Sato is working really hard to secure the rear naked choke. Pettimore defends successfully for a significant amount of time. Both fighters are looking very determined.

Sato is staying calm and holding on to the back position, whilst working on a rear naked choke. Pettimore is defending well though. Sato let's go of the attempt for now.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Daigo Sato dominated that round.
The referee calls time. The cornermen exit stage left and we're back to business.

A slow jab from Pettimore misses its intended target.
Pettimore misses with a hook to the body
and Sato counters with a nice low kick that buckles Pettimore's knee momentarily.
Sato moves forwards but Pettimore connects with a nice, crisp jab.
Pettimore misses with an uppercut. Sato saw that one coming.
Pettimore misses with a body shot.
Sato blocks a jab.
Sato uses good head movement to avoid the hook from Pettimore.
Pettimore cracks Sato with an open hand slap.
Sato is really dominating this fight. Is there anything that Pettimore can do to turn this around?

and Sato counters with a quick right hand to the jaw.
Sato lands with a nice low kick. That'll leave a bruise.
Pettimore misses with a left hand

and Sato counters with a takedown into side control.
We've seen a great period of action over the last minute or so - credit to both fighters for going all out!

Sato is in a dominant position here, looking for a kimura. Pettimore looks calm but he's in trouble here. Sato gets his leg over his opponent's head and yanks on the arm. Pettimore is tapping like a morse code operator on the titanic! SOS! SOS! Sato lets go of the hold and Pettimore can pop his arm back in it's socket.

Ladies and gentlemen, after 1:56 of round 2, we have a winner by way of Submission (Kimura). Daigo Sato!
