The bell rings for round one and we are underway!

Dean closes the distance and clinches up, looking for a takedown. He shifts his weight and gets a nice trip into half guard.

Dean is looking for a kimura but he's never going to get it from there.
Dean throwing shots but Vito is blocking nicely.

Dean is trying to work for a kimura. This could be trouble! No, Vito has managed to free his arm - good work.
Vito is not content to let Dean control the position.

Dean is looking for a kimura here.
Dean has been looking to land a fair amount of strikes on the ground. He might be looking to soften his opponent up in order to work for a submission.
Vito is refusing to be controlled, as Dean sits in half guard.
Dean is thwarting Vito's attempts to control the position.

OK we're going to have a standup here. bo Vito hasn't been effective enough on the ground and the referee wants a restart.
Dean misses with a right hand
and Vito counters with a right hand to the body.
Dean throws a poor cross that misses

and Vito counters into the clinch. Nicely done.

Dean lands a takedown into guard.
Vito controls Dean momentarily but Dean frees himself.
Dean wants to control from the top but Vito keeps moving.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.

Dean drops back looking for a leg! Vito is in trouble here! The fighters roll with the hold and Vito manages to kick Dean off! Dean jumps back into Vito's guard.

Dean stays in close to Vito's body and controls the position.

Vito really doesn't want to stay on the ground with Dean. If he can't get it back to his feet, it's only a matter of time before he'll be tapping out.

Dean is trying to control. Vito wants to improve his position but can't escape this time.
Dean seems to be taking a bit of a break to think of his next move. He lands a short punch in the meantime.

Dean is looking for a kimura but Vito is holding onto that half guard position, so it's hard for Dean to get the leverage.
Dean passes to side control.
The fighters are starting to get a bit slippery now, which will make submissions a bit more difficult.
You can see the frustration on Vito's face, being in this tough position on the bottom.
Dean fails to land a wild elbow strike.

Dean wants to work for a kimura but he's foiled early by Vito, who protects the arm well.

Dean is in a dominant position here, looking for a kimura. Vito looks calm but he's in trouble here. Dean gets his leg over his opponent's head and yanks on the arm. Vito is tapping like a morse code operator on the titanic! SOS! SOS! Dean lets go of the hold and Vito can pop his arm back in it's socket.
