The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Smith fails with a takedown attempt.
Murdock tries to score with a low kick but Smith moves his leg out of the way.
Murdock is looking to take this fight into the clinch.

Smith fakes an overhand right and shoots for a takedown. Murdock sprawls well initially but Smith persists and gets the takedown into half guard.

Murdock looking to work for a kimura from the bottom.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.

Smith is trying to work for a kimura. He's got his hands clasped together - this could be trouble! No, Murdock has managed to free his arm - good work.
Murdock wants to improve his position but Smith is controlling well.
Smith blocks the strikes from Murdock.

Murdock tries to roll over but Smith keeps him under control.
Smith looking to pass the half guard. Not this time.

It looks like we're going to have a standup here. Neither fight is doing enough on the ground.
Smith fails in his attempt to clinch.
Murdock attempts a low kick but it misses it's target.
Murdock misses with a few strikes there.
Murdock shapes like he's going to throw a leg kick but settles back down.

Smith scores with a takedown into Murdock's guard.
Murdock manages to land a sweep and now he's in mount on top!

Murdock wants to finish this one by submission but Smith is holding onto his waist, trying to prevent any attacks from Murdock.

Murdock jumps to side control looking for an arm triangle but Smith manages to avoid the submission attempt.
Murdock tries to cartwheel into mount but he doesn't manage it.

Smith gets one leg under and gets the fight to half guard.

Murdock drops an elbow to the side of Smith's head.
Smith is looking to improve his position.

Murdock looking for a kimura but he'll have to free his other leg if he wants to finish that. Perhaps he's just using it as a distraction technique.

Smith tries to roll over but Murdock keeps him under control.

A lull in the action here being met with boos from the crowd.
Murdock won't allow Smith to get back to his feet.
Murdock pushes down on Smith's leg and manages to get into half guard.

Murdock is working for a kimura but Smith is defending it quite comfortably.

Murdock is working for a submission of some sort.
Murdock passes to side control.

Murdock tries for an arm triangle. That looks pretty tight to me. Is this one over!?! Possibly, maybe, no Murdock has let go of the choke. Obviously it wasn't as tight as we thought!

A close round but Wayne Murdock will probably get the nod.
The fighters get back to their feet, the hooter sounds and we're back to the action!

Murdock closes the distance and clinches.
Murdock wants to stall.

Smith pulls guard successfully.
Murdock trying to control but Smith is working from the bottom.
Murdock postures up.

Murdock thinks about going for a leg but decides against it, in order to maintain the position.

Smith looking for submissions off his back, moving his hips, looking for an opening.
Murdock stands and throws Smith's legs to the side, diving into side control.
Murdock gets to mount! Smith was on the offensive and wasn't defending properly.
Smith tries to lock up and control but Murdock gives him a forearm to the face and pushes him away.
Murdock with a couple of short strikes.
Both fighters are absolutely exhausted here.
Smith is working to get back to half guard.

Murdock has hold of Smith's left arm, perhaps looking for a submission. The two fighters tussle over control of the isolated limb and Smith manages to get his arm back to his side and away from danger.

Smith tries to hold on but Murdock postures up.
Murdock has his opponent pinned against the cage, landing some nasty ground and pound that is really making a bit of a mess out of Smith's face.
Smith regains half guard.
Smith manages to get to full guard.
Smith looking to hit a scissor sweep but Murdock is one step ahead there.
Smith controlling the position.
Smith bucks up whilst keeping hold of a body lock, managing to reverse the position. Now he's in top in Murdock's guard.
Murdock not looking particularly offensive just at the moment.
Smith pushing down on Murdock's thigh, trying to pass to half guard. He's managed it... Nice work.
Smith passes the guard and advances to mount!

Smith tries to control but Murdock wriggling away.
Murdock can't escape the position.
Smith avoids the attempt from Murdock to control.

Smith goes for an armbar but he's not got it… Murdock turns into him and now he's in Smith's guard.
Smith looking for a sweep. Not yet Smith, not yet.
Smith keeping moving, preventing Murdock from controlling successfully.
Murdock passes Smith's right leg, so he's now in half guard.
Murdock passes the guard and advances to mount!
Smith is desperately trying to get back to half guard.
Wayne Murdock has got the better of the ground game so far.

Smith is writhing around trying to get back to his feet.
Murdock lands with some strikes.

Murdock is thinking about an arm triangle here, looking to tighten it up before moving to side control. Smith can see it coming though and defends well with a couple of strikes to the head and some good arm positioning.
Smith is wriggling around here but as he tries to escape, Murdock has taken his back.
Smith really does look like a pencil wearing a pair of gloves. Let's hope he has a gameplan to suit that ridiculous body shape.

Smith won't enjoy being in this position. Murdock looking for the choke. Oh... he's slipped the arm under the neck - Smith is tapping - it's over boys! Murdock picks up the submission victory!
