PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a featherweight MMA rules bout between Floyd Mullins (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Nate Diaz (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Both fighters will be looking to make this an exciting fight for the fans, I'm sure!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the featherweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of New York, Floyd Mullins!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 0 - 1 - 0, fighting out of New York, Nate Diaz!
The judges for this bout are Reed Andrews, Dean Styles and Jorge Garcia.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Mullins throws a body kick that misses.
Mullins tries to close the distance and clinch up but Diaz swats him away and circles back towards the center.
Diaz throws a leg kick
and Mullins counters with a left and a right that stings Diaz.

Diaz fakes an overhand right and shoots for a takedown. Mullins sprawls well initially but Diaz persists and gets the takedown into half guard.
Diaz works his foot free and advances to mount.

Diaz stands up from the dominant position, so we're back on the feet.
Mullins swats away the attempt to clinch by Diaz.
Mullins misses with a takedown attempt - Diaz sprawls well and throws a nice strike on the way out which just misses.
Diaz tries to close the distance and clinch up against the cage but Mullins paws at him with a jab and circles away.

That's one minute gone in the round.
Diaz tries a switch kick but it misses it's target.
Diaz tries to clinch up against the cage, rushing in to close the distance. Mullins manages to break the clinch and circles back to the middle of the mat.
Mullins closes this distance looking for a takedown but Diaz circles away.

Diaz feints and then dives in with a takedown. That was a long way out but the feint bought him enough time to close the distance and complete the takedown. Now we'll play guard for a bit and see who can get the better of that position.

Diaz is trying to work a guillotine from the top, or something like that? Don't know how he thinks he's going to get a finish from there.

Mullins wants to improve his position but instead Diaz has moved into half guard.

Mullins pushes Diaz off and gets back to his feet.

This is a great period of action - very entertaining stuff!
Mullins is looking to stand up but Diaz isn't so interested in that idea.
Mullins really does look like a pencil wearing a pair of gloves. Let's hope he has a gameplan to suit that ridiculous body shape.

Diaz got a little sloppy there for a moment and Mullins has worked his way into a loose triangle - can he finish it?! No, Diaz has managed to get both his arms back between Mullins's legs - danger averted.

Diaz drops back looking for a heel hook - he quickly realises he's not going to get it but Mullins manages to dive on top of him before he can escape and now Diaz has Mullins in his guard.

Diaz is avoiding any damage by keeping wrist control.
Mullins wants to control from the top but Diaz keeps moving.

Floyd Mullins has forced the referee to step in and bring the fight back to the feet.

Diaz takes the fight into the clinch.

Diaz turns his back and goes for a hip toss. It's a bit messy but it gets the job done and Diaz manages to end up in side control.
Mullins is positioning himself to get back to half guard.
As the round comes to an end the crowd are showing their appreciation for a great round of action.

The fighters get back to their feet, the hooter sounds and we're back to the action!


Mullins throws a half hearted mid kick.

Diaz tries for a kimura but Mullins is defending well.

Diaz sends his fist crashing into the mat - the crowd let out a collective ooooooh. Let's hope he's not broken it!

The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.

Diaz wants to control the pace but Mullins is squirming around nicely.

Mullins is trying to stand but he's just given Diaz his back.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.

Diaz looking to break Mullins's wrist control so he can sink in the choke. Mullins remaining controlled and patient though - he really has to keep calm otherwise Diaz will wrap this one up with the rear naked choke!

Mullins is trying to shake Diaz off. He's managed it and has hopped back to his feet! Diaz won't be happy about giving up the dominant position.

Let's hope that Diaz has the urge to step up the pace any second now because for the last 15 or 20 seconds he's just been holding on tight.

Mullins wants to stand but Diaz is controlling the position.

Mullins throws his legs up looking for a submission but Diaz uses it to pass to side control.
Nate Diaz has got the better of the ground game so far.
You can see the frustration on Mullins's face as Diaz controls the position.
Mullins avoids any damage from the ground and pound of Diaz.
Diaz tries to score with some ground and pound. Mullins controls his posture well this time though and the shots don't do any damage.
The crowd applaud the fighters efforts here as the round comes to an end.
Diaz takes a little break here. Mullins wants to take advantage but he is being controlled well.
This has been an exciting period of action!

Diaz decides to take the fight back to the feet.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Nate Diaz showed his class in that round. I'd imagine he'll take it on all the scorecards.
Well, the break between rounds is over. Let's get back to the scrappin! This is the final round!


Mullins blocks a head kick by Diaz.
Diaz tries to clinch but is not successful on this occasion.

Mullins wants to get back to his feet but he's too absorbed in his own little project and Diaz manages to pass to side control.

Diaz is working for a kimura but Mullins is defending it quite comfortably.
Diaz takes a deep breath and rests his weight momentarily on top of his opponent, to control the position.
Diaz stops Mullins from getting back to his feet.
Diaz is looking to take a break and control but Mullins is keeping him honest, looking to work from the bottom.
Diaz prevents Mullins from standing back up.

The referee must be thinking about standing these guys back up.
Both fighters are breathing heavily.
Diaz thows a wild elbow that connects with the canvas.
Diaz not landing any meaningful shots this time.

Diaz escapes and gets back to his feet.

Mullins tries to take the fight to the ground by pulling guard but can't manage it.

Diaz ties up his opponent against the cage and manages to drag the fight down to the ground. Diaz no doubt will be looking to work submissions from his guard.
There's a bit of a scramble here and now Diaz is on top in guard.
Diaz stands and throws Mullins's legs to the side, diving into side control.

Diaz has knee on belly and now moves to full mount! Trouble for Mullins!

Mullins defends a decent attempt at a guillotine from Diaz.
Diaz is dominating on the ground here - he's now on his opponent's back, looking to sink in the hooks. Mullins is in real trouble.
The fans in attendance giving it up for the two fighters, who have really let it all hang out in the last minute or so!
The crowd applaud the fighters efforts here as the round comes to an end.

Diaz is working really hard to secure the rear naked choke. Mullins defends successfully for a significant amount of time. Both fighters are looking very determined.
Floyd Mullins has stepped it up - he knows he needs a finish here!
Nate Diaz is fighting for a decision - hopefully he's judged it right and he's actually winning the fight.
Diaz has the hooks sunk in and you can see the will to fight slowly draining out of Mullins's body.

Nate Diaz comfortably won the final round on my scorecard.
Well Diaz has outworked and out performed his opponent in all aspects of the game today. He was simply too good and the decision should be no more than a formality. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
