Coming up we have a light heavyweight MMA rules bout between Michael Acton (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Ben Ballard (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Michael Acton looks tired to me. Hopefully he has got enough gas left in the tank to put in a good performance.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the light heavyweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 1 - 0 - 0, fighting out of St Petersburg, Michael Acton!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 3 - 0 - 0, fighting out of St Petersburg, Ben Ballard!
The judges for this bout are Viktor Lagutenko, Illya Tyunina and Dmitry Maklakov.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!

Ballard closes the distance and pushes Acton back into the cage.
Acton managing to block the knees to the body from Ballard.
With the fighters up against the cage, Acton throws an elbow but misses.
Ballard is trying to pull guard but Acton turns him against the cage and we stay in the clinch.

Ballard drags the fight down to the ground.
We've had a lack of effective grappling in the last minute or so, which could well see a referee standup.

Ballard kicks Acton off and gets to his feet.
Acton wants to clinch but Ballard slips to the side

and Ballard counters with a nice double leg into side control. Acton won't be happy with that.
A bit of a lull in the action. I'm sure it will pick up again soon... even if the ref has to physically pick them up and put them back on their feet.
We've seen a great period of action over the last minute or so - credit to both fighters for going all out!
Ballard is working Acton over with some ground and pound from side control.
Ballard is moving around in side control but his primary objective seems to be to maintain the position.
Ballard has the superior BJJ but he's also working some ground strikes into his gameplan.
Ballard landing with strikes to the head and body from side control.

Ballard wants to work for a kimura but he's foiled early by Acton, who protects the arm well.

That's one minute gone in the round.

Ballard decides to stand back up. Ballard steps back and let's Acton get back to his feet.

Ballard scores a trip takedown into side control. Nice.

Ballard working hard here to secure a kimura but he's not really in the right position for it.
Acton knows he needs to get back to his feet asap. He's simply no match for Ballard on the ground.
You can see the frustration on Acton's face, being in this tough position on the bottom.

Ballard stands up.

Ballard gets a takedown into half guard.

That's two minutes gone in the round.
Fantastic stuff here - a very entertaining period of action, which has drawn cheers from the crowd.
Acton is trying to escape back to his feet but Ballard uses the scramble to pass into side control.
Ballard takes a little break here. Acton wants to take advantage but he is being controlled well.

Ballard is looking for a kimura. He might have it! No, Acton has escaped the position, nice work there.

Ballard decides to stand back up.

Ballard drops down and drives through with a powerful takedown into guard.

That's three minutes gone in the round.
Acton working a defensive guard but Ballard passes into half guard.
Still in half guard, Ballard seems content to control.
Ballard slips a nice elbow through Acton's hands, connecting with Acton's forehead.
Ballard landing with strikes to the body and head, softening up his opponent.
Acton wants to get back to full guard but Ballard has mounted him!
Ballard is still in mount, landing shots to his trapped opponent. Acton can't stay in a position like this for much longer.
Ballard content just to control the position here.

That's four minutes gone in the round.
This has been an exciting period of action!
Ballard lands a heavy elbow.
Ballard tucks in and makes sure he doesn't lose the dominant position.
Acton is wriggling around here but as he tries to escape, Ballard has taken his back.
The crowd are going absolutely nuts as the round comes to an end - what a fantastic round of action!

Ballard has managed to slip his arm under Acton's chin. This could be all over... yep, Acton is tapping out! Submission win for Ballard.

Ladies and gentlemen, after 4:55 of round 1, we have a winner by way of Submission (RNC). Ben Ballard!
