PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a featherweight MMA rules bout between Ken Kei Katsuro (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Donald Register (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Katsuro's ring entrance music is that housewives' favourite, Lil Wayne - Playin With Fire. Register has chosen Mama Said Knock You Out as his entrance music. Donald Register told me before the fight that he's been watching a lot of DVDs so let's see if that helps him in this one! I can't wait to find out!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the featherweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 7 - 3 - 1, fighting out of Las Vegas, Ken Kei Katsuro!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 5 - 1 - 0, fighting out of New York, Donald Register!
The judges for this bout are Tiny Johnson, Wesley Smith and Chris Downing.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Register tries to clinch but Katsuro moves out of range.
Katsuro looks for a takedown here. Will he get it? Register is fending him off so far but Katsuro persists. Nope, Register circles away and we're back to standing.
Register shoots in looking for a takedown. Katsuro tries to sprawl out of it but Register keeps driving through. The fighters are pinned against the cage. Katsuro manages to get underhooks and after a bit of a struggle, circles away and we're back to standing.
Register fails with the takedown

and Katsuro decides to take the opportunity to score a takedown. He's landed in Register's guard.
Katsuro tries to free his leg and advance position but Register is retaining full guard.
Register keeping moving, preventing Katsuro from controlling successfully.
Register is looking to stand up but Katsuro isn't so interested in that idea.

The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.

The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
Register wants to sweep here but Katsuro controlling him for the moment.

Katsuro has been looking to land a fair amount of strikes on the ground. He might be looking to soften his opponent up in order to work for a submission.
Register really doesn't want to stay on the ground with Katsuro. If he can't get it back to his feet, it's only a matter of time before he'll be tapping out.

The referee has ruled that neither fighter is active enough on the ground and has stood them back up.

Register tries to keep at a distance but Katsuro has taken the fight into the clinch.

Katsuro has a loose triangle. He'll be looking to tighten that up but Register can see exactly what he's planning and manages to posture up and free himself.
Register is fighting to break Katsuro's control of his arms but Katsuro is doing a good job of controlling the position at the moment.
Register is just sitting in guard, looking to avoid any submissions.
Katsuro has a closed guard, preventing Register from standing up.

Well, the referee has seen enough. Neither fighter is active enough on the ground so he's stood them back up.

and Katsuro counters with a takedown into side control.

Katsuro tries to cartwheel into mount but he doesn't manage it.
Katsuro is breathing heavily.
Register is not content to let Katsuro control the position.

Katsuro wants to work for a kimura but he's foiled early by Register, who protects the arm well.
Register gets back to half guard.
Katsuro looking to pass the half guard. Not this time.
Register is trying to get back to full guard.

There's not a lot going on here and the crowd are letting the fighters know they're not willing to tolerate a lack of action.

It looks like we're going to have a standup here. Neither fighter is doing enough on the ground.
Katsuro shoots in looking for a takedown. Register tries to sprawl out of it but Katsuro keeps driving through. The fighters are pinned against the cage. Register manages to get underhooks and after a bit of a struggle, circles away and we're back to standing.

and Katsuro counters with a nice single leg takedown and he's in Register's guard now.

Register uses the cage to get back to his feet.
Register shoots in but Katsuro avoids the takedown attempt easily.
The crowd applaud the fighters efforts here as the round comes to an end.

Register throws a hard body shot but it just misses.

The crowd are showing their displeasure at the lack of action as loud boos ring out around the arena.

Register throws a hook to the side of Katsuro's head but Katsuro sees it coming and ducks under it beautifully.

Katsuro drops back looking for a leg! Register is in trouble here! The fighters roll with the hold and Register manages to kick Katsuro off! Katsuro jumps back into Register's guard.

Some bone on bone action there as Katsuro checks a low kick. Luckily it wasn't a particularly hard one.

Well I reckon that's a shut out for Katsuro, winning every round. Will the judges agree? They are the ones who matter, even if they are often depressingly incompetent. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
