Coming up we have a welterweight MMA rules bout between Sergio Pettis (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Johny Hendricks (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). These two fighters really are very evenly matched on the feet - it will be fascinating to see who can assert themselves in that aspect of the fight.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the welterweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 7 - 4 - 0, fighting out of Sydney, Sergio Pettis!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 5 - 2 - 0, fighting out of New York, Johny Hendricks!
The judges for this bout are John Kavanagh, Dean Styles and Alyssa Summers.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Pettis with a poor takedown

so Hendricks counters with a double leg into guard. Good agility.
Hendricks trying to control the position from guard on top but Pettis is wriggling around, looking for whatever he can.

Pettis looking for submissions off his back, moving his hips, looking for an opening.
Hendricks must be cautious of submissions here, given that his opponent has the superior Jiu Jitsu.
Pettis controlling Hendricks's posture.
Hendricks trying to control the position from guard on top but Pettis is wriggling around, looking for whatever he can.
There's a bit of a scramble here and now Pettis is on top in guard.

We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Hendricks looking for a sweep. Not yet Hendricks, not yet.

Pettis got a little sloppy there for a moment and Hendricks has worked his way into a loose triangle - can he finish it?! No, Pettis has managed to get both his arms back between Hendricks's legs - danger averted.

That's one minute gone in the round.

Pettis drops back for a leg! It's a sloppy attempt though and Pettis jumps back into guard quickly, to retain the dominant position.
Pettis throwing shots from guard but he's hitting more mat than opponent.
Pettis passes Hendricks's left leg - he's now in half guard.
Pettis scores with a couple of good hammerfists.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
Pettis seems very keen to just sit and control from half guard but Hendricks does not like that idea so much and is remaining active off his back.
Pettis has been looking to land a fair amount of strikes on the ground. He might be looking to soften his opponent up in order to work for a submission.
We've been hearing that Pettis has been drilling a lot of ground and pound in training, so let's see if he get the finish.
Pettis is scoring with some nice ground and pound from the dominant position.
Pettis drops an elbow to the side of Hendricks's head.
Pettis throwing punches and elbows but they're not doing any damage.

Pettis is trying to work for a kimura but Hendricks is defending well.
Pettis winds up and cracks Hendricks with a swinging punch to the side of the head.
We get told so often about how wrestlers don't like to be on their backs. Let's see if Hendricks can do anything to dispel that myth.
Hendricks is looking to improve his position.
Pettis looking to pass the half guard. Not this time.
Pettis uses his free foot to push down on Hendricks's thigh. Eventually he works his other foot free and he's advanced to mount - this is trouble for Hendricks.
Hendricks is trying desperately to improve position.
Pettis can't quite control the action as he would like just now, as Hendricks is looking to escape.

That's three minutes gone in the round.
Hendricks tries to reverse the position but Pettis maintains control.
Pettis lands an elbow that was bordering on illegal but the referee lets it go with a warning.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Pettis lands a heavy elbow.


Hendricks is rocked!

Pettis is in full mount, looking to secure a guillotine but Hendricks is surviving well by controlling Pettis's body position as best he can.

Pettis has hold of an arm here, looking to extend it. He's committed to the armbar attempt here! Will he get it?! Yes! Hendricks is forced to tap!

Ladies and gentlemen, after 3:49 of round 1, we have a winner by way of Submission (Armbar). Sergio Pettis!
An out of breath Sergio Pettis thanked his loyal fans in his post fight interview, giving them credit for his success over the course of his career.
