PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a heavyweight MMA rules bout between Eric Angle (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Fred Frederiksen (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). I'm sure you'll be fascinated to know that I was talking to some pointless Z list celebrity before the fight and he thought that Fred Frederiksen was going to win. Let's see if he was right.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the heavyweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 3 - 3 - 1, fighting out of Hilo, Eric Angle!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 2 - 5 - 0, fighting out of St Petersburg, Fred Frederiksen!
The judges for this bout are Aleksei Zolotukhin, Konstantin Menshow and Vladimir Khabensky.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Angle throws an overhand right that lands on Frederiksen's shoulder, as Frederiksen tries to avoid the shot.
Frederiksen fails with the takedown
and Angle counters with a straight right hand.
Angle throws a leg kick but Frederiksen sees it coming and moves out of range.
Fred Frederiksen seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.
Angle ducks down and throws a hook to the body.
Angle misses with a looping left.
Angle cracks Frederiksen with an open hand slap.
Angle connects with the punch.
Angle throws a low kick but Frederiksen avoids it.
Angle throws a hook but Frederiksen avoids it easily.
Angle scores with a punch to the head.
Frederiksen with poor footwork there. He got himself in a bit of a tangle, enabling Angle to score with a decent uppercut.
Angle misses with a straight right.
Angle connects with a nice looking jab.
Angle lands with a cross.
Fantastic stuff here - a very entertaining period of action, which has drawn cheers from the crowd.
Angle thuds his right hand into Frederiksen's forehead from close range. That could be painful for both fighters.
Frederiksen tries to clinch up.
Angle throws a jab when Frederiksen was well out of range.

That's one minute gone in the round.
Angle throws the left hand but Frederiksen avoids the punch easily.
Angle throws out a loose jab but Frederiksen uses good head movement to avoid it.
Frederiksen on the wrong end of a vicious looking body shot.
Frederiksen closes the distance and takes a jab right on the nose as he does so.
Frederiksen misses with a body shot.
Frederiksen is looking to clinch.
Frederiksen takes a solid shot to the body. That one hurt him but he's trying not to show it.
Angle looks to land a right hand but Frederiksen moved out of range.
Angle thows a left - swing and a miss!
A lazy left from Angle finds it's target.
Frederiksen throws a jab but it's blocked by Angle.
Angle bobs and weaves and throws out a fast jab that snaps Frederiksen's head backwards.
Frederiksen throws a hook to the body but it doesn't connect.
Angle darts in and out, connecting with a jab.
Angle fakes a jab and then connects with a hook.
We can't be sure of the tactics at this early stage but we have heard that Frederiksen has been working on his takedowns a lot in the buildup to the fight and we can only assume he's going to look to take this to the mat.
We've seen a great period of action over the last minute or so - credit to both fighters for going all out!
Angle's jab looks to have found its range, popping Frederiksen under the eye.
Angle throws out a loose jab but Frederiksen uses good head movement to avoid it.

That's two minutes gone in the round.
Angle moves into range and connects with a jab.
Angle lands a jab to the head.
Frederiksen tries to clinch up against the cage, rushing in to close the distance. Angle manages to break the clinch and circles back to the middle of the mat.
Angle thuds his right hand into Frederiksen's forehead from close range. That could be painful for both fighters.
Angle scores with a crisp jab that stopped Frederiksen in his tracks.


Frederiksen is rocked!
Frederiksen tries to clinch up.
Eric Angle is looking to keep the fight on the feet at all costs.
Frederiksen looks winded!
Angle swings widly with a right hand
and Frederiksen counters with a one-two to the body.
Frederiksen staying out of range there.
Frederiksen blocks a head kick by Angle.
Angle cracks Frederiksen with a hook to the jaw. Both fighters smile at eachother and high-five before getting back down to business.
Frederiksen is looking to clinch but Angle is avoiding it.
Angle dips to his left and cracks Frederiksen with an uppercut!
A punch lands to the side of Frederiksen 's head but he takes it in his stride.
Angle uses good footwork to get in and out, landing a nice hook.
Frederiksen is still on wobbly legs! Can Angle finish him?
Angle jabs Frederiksen right on the nose. Frederiksen blinks but takes it well.
Angle scores with a jab. Frederiksen acknowledges it with a nod of the head.

That's three minutes gone in the round.
Frederiksen walks straight into a right hand from Angle - that's dropped him! Angle jumps into mount and starts pounding away - can he finish?! More strikes go undefended and the referee has to dive in to save Frederiksen from any more punishment! Frederiksen complains about the stoppage but falls over as he tries to stand back up, so it was clearly a good stoppage.

Ladies and gentlemen, after 3:08 of round 1, we have a winner by way of TKO (Punches). Eric Angle!
