Coming up we have a middleweight MMA rules bout between Ben Pulse (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Massimo Paterno (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Over to our ring announcer for the fighter introductions!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the middleweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 0 - 1 - 0, fighting out of The Island, Ben Pulse!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 1 - 1 - 0, fighting out of The Island, Massimo Paterno!
The judges for this bout are Michael Johnstone, Sandra Marshall and Bart Greer.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!

Pulse drives through with a takedown into guard.
The referee claps his hands together and tells the fighters to work.
Pulse trying to control but Paterno is working from the bottom.

Paterno has a loose triangle. He'll be looking to tighten that up but Pulse can see exactly what he's planning and manages to posture up and free himself.
Pulse postures up in Paterno's guard and throws a big left but Paterno blocks it.

That's one minute gone in the round.
Pulse is looking to stand up but Paterno won't let him.
Pulse trying to land body shots but he keeps hitting the mat.
Paterno is working from a closed guard but he's struggling to control his opponent.
Paterno keeping moving, preventing Pulse from controlling successfully.
Pulse really does look like a pencil wearing a pair of gloves. Let's hope he has a gameplan to suit that ridiculous body shape.

Ben Pulse has forced the referee to step in and bring the fight back to the feet.
Pulse looks to clinch

and Paterno counters with a takedown into side control! That could mean trouble for Pulse!

Paterno is trying to get an arm triangle but Pulse is defending well.
Paterno has knee on belly and now moves to full mount! Trouble for Pulse!

That's two minutes gone in the round.
Pulse reaches up to try and control the position but Paterno seems to have an arm triangle now! Uh oh! Pulse rolls and tries to escape and now Paterno has his back!
Pulse wants to control his opponent's hands but Paterno gets his hands free.
We've seen a great period of action over the last minute or so - credit to both fighters for going all out!
Paterno trying to control momentarily.

Paterno looking to break Pulse's wrist control so he can sink in the choke. Pulse remaining controlled and patient though - he really has to keep calm otherwise Paterno will wrap this one up with the rear naked choke!

Pulse trying to control the hands but Paterno breaks the grip.

Paterno is staying calm and holding on to the back position, whilst working on a rear naked choke. Pulse is defending well though. Paterno let's go of the attempt for now.
Pulse turns into Paterno and is now in his guard.
Pulse wants to control from the top but Paterno keeps moving.

That's four minutes gone in the round.
This has been an exciting period of action!
Pulse would like to get this fight back to the feet but can't get free from the closed guard.
The referee claps his hands together and tells the fighters to work.
Pulse trying to pass the guard but can't manage it just yet.

Paterno escapes his hips to the side and looks to be working for an armbar. Pulse gives him a little smile and shakes his head. No chance.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Pulse tries to free his leg and advance position but Paterno is retaining full guard.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Massimo Paterno dominated that round.
The referee calls time. The cornermen exit stage left and we're back to business.



Paterno closes the distance and gets a double leg, slamming Pulse to the mat! Pulse manages to get full guard.
Paterno pushing down on Pulse's thigh, trying to pass to half guard. He's managed it... Nice work.
Pulse trying to control but Paterno postures up.
Pulse tries to regain full guard. Instead though, Paterno has advanced to mount. Uh oh.
Pulse sneaks a leg under to get to half guard.

Paterno is trying a forearm choke… I don't think that's going to do much at this level of the game.
Paterno trying to mount his opponent but Pulse defends it.

Paterno is looking for a kimura here.

Paterno controlling the action here.

Paterno is working for a submission of some sort.

That's three minutes gone in the round.
Pulse wants to control but Paterno is keeping busy.
Paterno stops Pulse from getting back to his feet.
Massimo Paterno has got the better of the ground game so far.
Pulse trying to control here.
Paterno prevents Pulse from improving his position.

That's four minutes gone in the round.
If this pace continues, the referee will definitely step in and force a standup.

The ref stands the fighters back up because Ben Pulse just wasn't active enough.

Paterno drives through with a really nice takedown into side control.

Paterno is looking to finish here, going for an Americana. Pulse knows the correct defense though, so he's OK.

Paterno goes for an armbar here - this could be all over! But no, Pulse has escaped beautifully and is now on top in side control! Oh, that's unlucky for Paterno but great work by Pulse.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Massimo Paterno showed his class in that round. I'd imagine he'll take it on all the scorecards.
That's the end of the round. The referee orders the cornermen out of the cage so we can get back down to business. This is the final round!


Pulse tries to close the distance and clinch up against the cage but Paterno paws at him with a jab and circles away.

Pulse gets a takedown into half guard.
Pulse seems to have lost interest with the ground game and is thinking about standing back up.
Pulse wants to stand up but Paterno manages to regain full guard.

That's one minute gone in the round.

Paterno looking for a guillotine here but Pulse defends easily.
Paterno wants to hit a switch here but Pulse passes into full mount! Oh no, disaster for Paterno there!
Pulse looking to control but Paterno is working nicely, looking to advance position himself.

That's two minutes gone in the round.
Paterno is in all sorts of trouble here.
Paterno is squirming around, avoiding Pulse's attempts to control the action.
Paterno taking shots to the head.
Pulse looks to be in better condition than last time we saw him fight. Obviously he's been working hard on his cardio.
Pulse trying to control but Paterno is having none of it.

Paterno wriggling around on the bottom manages to avoid the strikes thrown by Pulse.
Paterno is trying to escape the mount.
Pulse misses with a head shot.

That's four minutes gone in the round.
There's not a lot going on here and the crowd are letting the fighters know they're not willing to tolerate a lack of action.
Pulse throwing sloppy strikes, which aren't doing any damage.
Pulse trying to control but he's not successful this time.
Paterno is desperately trying to improve his position but Pulse has a good base and remains in mount.
Pulse tries to control but Paterno wriggling away.
Pulse misses with a head shot.

And that's the end of the fight!
Ben Pulse showed his dominance in that final round.
I think Paterno has won this one but let's see whether the judges agree with me. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
