PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a bantamweight MMA rules bout between Kiven Bird (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Cruz Beck (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). These two fighters really are very evenly matched on the feet - it will be fascinating to see who can assert themselves in that aspect of the fight.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the bantamweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 1 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Tokyo, Kiven Bird!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 4 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Tokyo, Cruz Beck!
The judges for this bout are Yukihiro Yamamoto, Yasuomi Hirokawa and Hirohito Nitta.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Bird shoots for a takedown but Beck saw that one coming a mile off and avoided it easily.

Bird manages to get an easy takedown there - catching Beck on his heels. He'll look to pass Beck's guard now, I'm sure.
The referee claps his hands together and tells the fighters to work.
Bird stops Beck from standing up.
Beck is striking but Bird is not phased and passes to half guard.
Beck works his way to full guard. Good work.
Beck punching to the body, from the bottom.
Beck trying to punch from his back but it's not doing any damage.

Beck looking for submissions off his back, moving his hips, looking for an opening.
Beck keeping moving, preventing Bird from controlling successfully.
Beck is working the butterfly guard. He manages to land a nice scissor sweep and is now in half guard on the top. Nice move.
Bird is trying to get back to full guard.
Beck wants to take a breather but Bird is having none of it.

Beck lands a big shot. The thud that echoes around the arena is like music to the fans' ears.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Bird is trying to stand back up but Beck is controlling him
Bird wants to get back to full guard.
Beck really doesn't want to stay on the ground with Bird. If he can't get it back to his feet, it's only a matter of time before he'll be tapping out.

Bird is in a bad position, trying to hold on for dear life but he is really struggling to maintain any sort of control.

Beck is looking to take a break and control but Bird is keeping him honest, looking to work from the bottom.

Bird might be looking to lock onto one of his opponent's long limbs for a submission, whilst we're on the ground.

We're going to have a standup here because Kiven Bird wasn't active enough for the referee's liking.

and Beck moves into the clinch.

Beck lands an elbow just above Bird 's eye.

Beck turns his back and goes for a hip toss. It's a bit messy but it gets the job done and Beck manages to end up in side control.

Bird is looking to work his way out of this bad position but Beck is controlling him well.

You can see the frustration on Bird's face, being in this tough position on the bottom.

Beck looking to punish the body of his opponent here but Bird is avoiding damage well.
Bird is trying to get back to half guard. He's pushing on Beck's leg. He's managed it. Nice work.

The crowd cheering loudly, showing their appreciation for the quality fight we're seeing here.
Beck thows a wild elbow that connects with the canvas.

Bird tries to strike from the bottom but it doesn't land.
As the round comes to an end the crowd are showing their appreciation for a great round of action.

Bird is looking to sinch up a guillotine here but Beck pulls his head out easily.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

A close round but Cruz Beck will probably get the nod.
That's time! Back to the action!



Bird tries to sprawl but Beck drives through with a takedown into half guard.
Bird really does look like a pencil wearing a pair of gloves. Let's hope he has a gameplan to suit that ridiculous body shape.
Bird has no desire to be mounted, so is trying to control. Beck is working away from the top position though.
Beck winds up and cracks Bird with a swinging punch to the side of the head.
Beck landing with strikes to the body and head, softening up his opponent.
Bird keeping his head moving to avoid the ground and pound.
The referee walks around the fighters to get a better view of the action. Beck lands a nice short elbow.
Bird is looking to regain full guard. Not this time though.
Beck looks towards his corner to check for any instructions. The corner give him nothing to work with, so he cracks Bird with a short hammerfist. I guess that's as good as any advice he could get in this position.
Bird moves into full guard.

That's one minute gone in the round.
Bird pulls Beck in close to prevent any damage.
Beck scoring with some ground and pound.
Beck lands a couple of elbows.
Beck keeps in close for a moment and lands a decent shot to the side of Bird's head.
Beck is working Bird over from the guard. He should look to pass the guard and do a little more damage with these strikes.
Bird looking for a sweep. Not yet Bird, not yet.
Beck postures up to throw the ground and pound strikes but they don't connect.

That's two minutes gone in the round.
Beck distracts Bird with his right hand and drops a big elbow with his other arm.
Cruz Beck has got the better of the ground game so far.
Bird tries to land a sweep but no joy.
Bird has Beck pulled in close to control his posture.

Bird working from the bottom, still in full guard. He's managed to get a loose triangle. Beck doesn't seem to be doing much to defend here, obviously he feels comfortable in the position. Oh but Bird is tightening it up a little... Beck has to be careful here... He's got his foot tucked under now, this looks tight! Beck reacted too slowly and this one could be over in a matter of seconds! YES! Beck taps out! Nice BJJ there by Bird!

Ladies and gentlemen, after 2:41 of round 2, we have a winner by way of Submission (Triangle Choke). Kiven Bird!
