PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a heavyweight MMA rules bout between Brutus Smash (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Bruce Cody (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Cody comes into a darkened arena with his song building. 21 questions kicks in, the lights come on and the crowd goes wild! What a showman! Over to our ring announcer for the fighter introductions!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 2 rounds, in the heavyweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.

And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.

The judges for this bout are Andrew Berry, James Glass and James Ackerman.

The bell rings for round one and we are underway!

Cody shoots in for a takedown and gets it. Let's see what he's got on the mat.
Smash is trying to control the position but Cody postures up.
Cody works over Smash with some ground and pound from guard.

Smash is rocked!
Cody has the superior BJJ but he's also working some ground strikes into his gameplan.
Smash avoiding any damage from the ground and pound.
Cody wants to control from the top but Smash keeps moving.
Cody prevents Smash from getting back to his feet.
Cody wants to stand but Smash is controlling his posture from full guard.
Smash is trying to stand up but he's not managed so far.
A big thud reverberates around the arena there as Cody accidentally thumps the mat. Hopefully he's not broken his hand.
Cody passes into half guard.
Smash wants to improve his position but Cody is controlling well.

The referee has ruled that neither fighter is active enough on the ground and has stood them back up.
Smash stalks Cody and leaps in with a furious combination of punches. Uppercuts and crosses smash into Cody's face. Cody staggers backwards, shaken.
Smash is looking to take this fight into the clinch.

That's one minute gone in the round.

Cody moves into the clinch.
Cody has a body lock and is looking for a takedown. Smash is bouncing around trying to prevent the takedown and somehow he has indeed managed to stay on his feet.
Cody tries for a takedown. No joy.
Cody wants a takedown but no success here.
Brutus Smash has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Bruce Cody.

Smash breaks from the clinch.
Smash misses with a straight right.

Cody closes the distance and clinches up, looking for a takedown. He shifts his weight and gets a nice trip into half guard.
The fighters are trapped in the ropes so we're going to have a reposition here. The ref calls for a break and repositions the fighters in the center of the ring.
Cody looks gassed!
Smash works his way to full guard. Good work.
Smash is looking to stand up but Cody isn't so interested in that idea.
Smash looking to hit a scissor sweep but Cody is one step ahead there.

Cody decides he's had enough of playing guard and decides to stand. Come on Smash, up you get!
Smash with a lazy takedown attempt

and Cody counters with a shoot takedown. Smash fights it but they end up in guard.
Cody trying to control but Smash is working from the bottom.

That's two minutes gone in the round.
There's a bit of a scramble here and now Smash is on top in guard.
This is a great period of action - very entertaining stuff!
Cody throws a couple of shots from the bottom but they don't land.
Cody looking for a sweep. Not yet Cody, not yet.
Smash trying to stand up but can't free himself from Cody's guard.

Cody pushes a forearm under Smash's chin to create some space. He's escaped his hips and pivoted quickly for an armbar! Can he extend the arm? Yes, Smash is tapping out! Damn, that was fast!
