PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a light heavyweight MMA rules bout between Rayford Petty (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Tyrone Black (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Rayford Petty looks tired to me. Hopefully he has got enough gas left in the tank to put in a good performance.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the light heavyweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 1 - 4 - 1, fighting out of Rio de Janeiro, Rayford Petty!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 1 - 1 - 0, fighting out of Rio de Janeiro, Tyrone Black!
The judges for this bout are Mauricio Rocha, Leandro Rodrigues and Daniel Cesar.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!

Petty closes the distance and pushes Black back into the cage.
Black looks really tired already! That doesn't bode well for a good, competitive fight!

Black successfully pulls guard.
Black working the defensive guard well to avoid strikes from Petty.
Black is looking to stand back up but Petty counters by passing into half guard. Oops... bit sloppy there by Black.

Petty looking for a kimura but he'll have to free his other leg if he wants to finish that. Perhaps he's just using it as a distraction technique.
Petty will need to keep those long limbs tucked in whilst he's on the ground, to prevent any submissions.
Petty not landing any meaningful shots this time.

We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
The two fighters exchange a few words. I couldn't hear what they were saying but maybe it's more fun if you make it up yourself. Petty connects with a nice short shot to Black's temple.

Petty looking for a kimura but he'll have to free his other leg if he wants to finish that. Perhaps he's just using it as a distraction technique.

Petty stands, ready to strike. The ref makes him back up and allows Black to get to his feet.

Black wants to stand and escape but Petty is having none of it.

Petty gets to his feet and steps away from his opponent.
Tyrone Black seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.
Black leaves Petty with his face pressed against the mat as he sprawls beautifully, defending against a solid takedown attempt.
Petty looks for a takedown here. Will he get it? Black is fending him off so far but Petty persists. Nope, Black circles away and we're back to standing.

Black tries to keep at a distance but Petty has taken the fight into the clinch.
Petty really does look like a pencil wearing a pair of gloves. Let's hope he has a gameplan to suit that ridiculous body shape.

Petty works for the underhooks and manages to get a trip takedown into guard.
Petty is working Black over from the guard. He should look to pass the guard and do a little more damage with these strikes.

Petty stands and steps away. Black gets to his feet too and we're back to the striking game.

Black pushes Petty up against the cage in a clinch.
Black wants to break the clinch but can't.
Black wants to break free but Petty has control.
Black wants to push off and get back to the center of the mat but Petty has him pressed against the cage.

Petty manages to pull guard. Let's see whether he can land a sub off his back.
Petty pulls Black in close to prevent any damage.
Black trying to control the position from guard on top but Petty is wriggling around, looking for whatever he can.

Petty is doing well to control the posture of his opponent and prevent any damage.
Petty wants to stand and escape but Black is having none of it.
Black won't allow Petty to sweep him here.
Petty lands a beautiful sweep and he's now moved into his opponent's guard.


Petty stands up from Black's guard - Petty perhaps looking for a knockout.
The crowd thankful this round is nearly over.

And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Petty thinks about going for a far side armbar but bails out and retains the dominant position instead.

Black tries to clinch up against the cage, rushing in to close the distance. Petty manages to break the clinch and circles back to the middle of the mat.

Petty seems keen to control Black's posture.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
Black wants to stand but Petty has a closed guard, so he can't escape.
Petty has his hands on Black's head, controlling the position.
There's a bit of a scramble here and now Petty is on top in guard.

Petty wants to control here, rather than go for any submissions from the bottom. At least for now.

Petty has a closed guard, preventing anything of note from happening. Perhaps he's looking to stall.
Petty has been looking to land a fair amount of strikes on the ground. He might be looking to soften his opponent up in order to work for a submission.
Petty wants to stand and escape but Black is having none of it.
Petty bucks up whilst keeping hold of a body lock, managing to reverse the position. Now he's in top in Black's guard.

Petty with a couple of shots to the head there. Not particularly brutal.
Black really doesn't want to stay on the ground with Petty. If he can't get it back to his feet, it's only a matter of time before he'll be tapping out.

Tyrone Black is looking to throw some combinations by the looks of things.

and Petty counters with a nice shoot takedown that brings the fighters to the ground.

Petty is really dominating this fight. Is there anything that Black can do to turn this around?

We've seen a great period of action over the last minute or so - credit to both fighters for going all out!

Petty is trying to land an Americana. He has the arm isolated but Black is keeping cool and he's avoided the danger for now.
Petty scores with a couple of short elbows.

The fighters' corners scream their final instructions, as the referee calls time. Here we go, back to the action! So, we enter the final round. Let's see if either fighter can bring us a finish, or whether we're going to the judges scorecards.

Black tries to free his leg and advance position but Petty is retaining full guard.

Black is fighting to break Petty's control of his arms but Petty is doing a good job of controlling the position at the moment.
Black takes a big intake of breath there - he's definitely tired.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
There's a bit of a scramble here and now Petty is on top in guard.

Petty keeps in close for a moment and lands a decent shot to the side of Black's head.

Petty chips away with some ground and pound.
Petty content to strike from guard, landing some decent shots.
Petty lands a couple of elbows.

Petty stands up from guard. Let's bang!

A momentary lapse in concentration from Black enables Petty to shoot in and score with a neat double leg. Black manages to secure a closed guard as the fighters hit the mat.
Petty postures up and lands a big shot to Black's brow.
Black wants to sweep here but Petty controlling him for the moment.
Black is looking to stand up but Petty isn't so interested in that idea.

Petty gets to his feet - Black follows without any prompting.

Petty closes the distance and after a bit of a stuggle, scores a takedown into Black's guard.
Petty distracts Black with his right hand and drops a big elbow with his other arm.

Petty stands up from guard. Let's bang!
Black stuffs the takedown.
Petty shoots in looking for a takedown but Black manages to keep the fight standing, pushing Petty's face into the canvas for good measure before circling away.
Petty closes this distance looking for a takedown but Black circles away.
That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Rayford Petty. That's going to take a lot out of him.
Black fakes low and throws an overhand right that catches Petty on the side of the head.
The crowd cheering loudly, showing their appreciation for the quality fight we're seeing here.
Black lands a nice leg kick that just misses Petty's sensitive parts.

Petty shoots in for a takedown and gets it. Let's see what he's got on the mat.

Petty swats away the attempt to clinch by Black.
Black tries to clinch up but Petty circles away and keeps his distance.

Petty closes the distance and presses his opponent up against the cage.
Black is trying to work out of this bad position, with his back against the cage.
Black wants to get back to striking at distance but Petty won't allow it.
Petty tries to pull guard but can't drag his opponent to the mat. Black just stands there and leans against the cage.

The crowd are getting on the fighters' backs, as the pace has dropped off in the last minute or so.
Black wants to strike at distance but he can't break free of the clinch.
Petty fails to pull the fight into his guard.
Petty jumps guard but Black turns him against the cage and keeps the fight standing.
Petty stalls.
The crowd thankful this round is nearly over.

Petty has Black pressed up against the cage. He's trying to work for a single leg takedown. Petty pulls back from the cage and twists to the side, sending Black tumbling to the mat - Petty dives into Black's guard.

And that's the end of the fight!
Rayford Petty showed his dominance in that final round.
Well I reckon that's a shut out for Petty, winning every round. Will the judges agree? They are the ones who matter, even if they are often depressingly incompetent. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
