PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a lightweight MMA rules bout between Julio Amoroso (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Spoon McGinty (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Amoroso kept the crowd waiting but all that was forgotten when his ring entrance music started. The incomparable musical genius that is Renegades of Funk - Rage Against The Machine. Both fighters look pumped up here. Let's hope this is a good fight!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the lightweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 4 - 1 - 0, fighting out of Montreal, Julio Amoroso!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 1 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Montreal, Spoon McGinty!
The judges for this bout are Elvis Blanc, Yves DeLean and Alec Ball.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
McGinty throws a quick head kick that skims the top of Amoroso's head.

Amoroso fakes an overhand right and shoots for a takedown. McGinty sprawls well initially but Amoroso persists and gets the takedown into half guard.

Amoroso is looking for a kimura here.
McGinty is holding on to half guard well.
Amoroso tries to pass the half guard into mount. McGinty knows what he's doing though and prevents the attempt.
McGinty tries to kick Amoroso off but Amoroso keeps his base steady and stays in half guard.
Amoroso is looking to take a break and control but McGinty is keeping him honest, looking to work from the bottom.

Amoroso seems to be working for a kimura but McGinty defends the submission attempt.
McGinty is looking to escape.
McGinty wants to control but Amoroso is keeping busy and won't allow it.

The referee decides to stand the fighters back up.

Amoroso feints and then dives in with a takedown. That was a long way out but the feint bought him enough time to close the distance and complete the takedown. Now we'll play guard for a bit and see who can get the better of that position.

McGinty throws his legs up looking to secure a triangle. Oh, that looks pretty tight, I gotta say! Amoroso escapes and throws McGinty's legs to the side, diving into side control!
McGinty is putting a lot of effort into getting back to his feet here.
McGinty looks gassed!

Amoroso advances nicely into full mount.

Amoroso working for a guillotine from mount but McGinty is in no mood to give up.

The fighters are starting to perspire pretty heavily.
Amoroso jumps to side control looking for an arm triangle but McGinty manages to avoid the submission attempt.
Amoroso looking to punish the body of his opponent here but McGinty is avoiding damage well.

Amoroso tries for an arm triangle. That looks pretty tight to me. Is this one over!?! Possibly, maybe, no Amoroso has let go of the choke. Obviously it wasn't as tight as we thought!
Amoroso has knee on belly and moves into mount.
Amoroso pushing the pace here, looking to move to his opponents back and work for a finish.

There's not a lot going on here and the crowd are letting the fighters know they're not willing to tolerate a lack of action.
McGinty is trying to escape the mount.
Amoroso looking to finish McGinty with some ground and pound. This is bad for McGinty!

McGinty defends a decent attempt at a guillotine from Amoroso.

Amoroso has hold of McGinty's left arm, perhaps looking for a submission. The two fighters tussle over control of the isolated limb and McGinty manages to get his arm back to his side and away from danger.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
Amoroso wants to control the pace but McGinty is squirming around nicely.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

That's time! Amoroso's corner gives him a slap on the ass as he gets ready to fight.



McGinty darts in and lands a nice takedown into half guard.
Amoroso makes his way to full guard. A much better position for Amoroso.
Amoroso manages to land a sweep and now he's in mount on top!
Amoroso scoring with strikes but McGinty is staying in there.
McGinty is breathing heavily.
McGinty is not a happy chappy… he wants out of there.

Amoroso with some aggressive grappling here. He's looking for submissions here, rather than waiting for the opportunity to counter.
McGinty is squirming around, avoiding Amoroso's attempts to control the action.
Amoroso lands with some vicious ground and pound - can McGinty hang on?
McGinty prevents Amoroso from taking his back.

The crowd are hurling abuse towards the fighters... You can hardly blame them though because there isn't a lot going on in the fight.
McGinty reaches up to try and control the position but Amoroso seems to have an arm triangle now! Uh oh! McGinty rolls and tries to escape and now Amoroso has his back!
McGinty covering up well and avoiding damage.

Amoroso looking to break McGinty's wrist control so he can sink in the choke. McGinty remaining controlled and patient though - he really has to keep calm otherwise Amoroso will wrap this one up with the rear naked choke!
Amoroso tries to get the hooks in deep but McGinty pushed the leg off.

Even with his hooks in, Amoroso manages to miss with strikes from the back.
McGinty manages to reverse the position and now he's in Amoroso's guard. Nice work there by McGinty.

Amoroso is looking for a triangle but McGinty pushes his legs off easily.
Amoroso wants to sweep but no luck.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Julio Amoroso dominated that second round.
The fighters' corners scream their final instructions, as the referee calls time. Here we go, back to the action! And we move into the final round!


Amoroso shoots in looking for a takedown. McGinty tries to sprawl out of it but Amoroso keeps driving through. The fighters are pinned against the cage. McGinty manages to get underhooks and after a bit of a struggle, circles away and we're back to standing.

Amoroso drives through with a really nice takedown into side control.
Julio Amoroso overall seems to be getting the better of the ground position in the fight so far.

Amoroso working hard here to secure a kimura but he's not really in the right position for it.
McGinty can't do much from the bottom here.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
McGinty throws a couple of strikes even though he's not really in a good position to do so.
Both fighters are breathing heavily.

Amoroso tries to cartwheel into mount but he doesn't manage it.

McGinty throws his opponent off and manages to get back to his feet! Nicely done!
Amoroso shoots in but McGinty avoids the takedown attempt easily.
McGinty throws a head kick but Amoroso moves out of range.
McGinty fails with an attempt to clinch.
Good work by Amoroso as he checks the leg kick.
Julio Amoroso is looking to throw some combinations by the looks of things.

A few boos can be heard. I'm sure they will multiply if the fighters don't pick up the pace.
McGinty misses with a two punch combination.
McGinty doesn't succeed with the takedown

and Amoroso counters with a nice double leg into guard.
Amoroso chips away with some ground and pound.
Amoroso in full guard, throwing the ground and pound. No damage this time.
Amoroso landing with the ground and pound.
McGinty trying to punch from his back but it's not doing any damage.
Amoroso pushing down on McGinty's thigh, trying to pass to half guard. He's managed it... Nice work.

Amoroso is trying a forearm choke… I don't think that's going to do much at this level of the game.
Amoroso winds up and cracks McGinty with a swinging punch to the side of the head.

Amoroso lands with an elbow from half guard - that looked like it hurt.
Amoroso frees up his trapped foot and advances to mount.
Amoroso wants to control the pace but McGinty is squirming around nicely.

McGinty is bucking up trying to escape but Amoroso cracks him with another couple of good strikes.
McGinty takes a big shot to the head but keeps on trying to improve his position.

Amoroso jumps to the side looking to secure the arm triangle…. Ooooh, that looks tight… McGinty is gargling but he's managed to escape! Nice work there by McGinty and Amoroso has given up the dominant position trying to land that submission.

McGinty throws his opponent off and manages to get back to his feet! Nicely done!
Spoon McGinty has stepped it up - he knows he needs a finish here!
Julio Amoroso is fighting for a decision here - he's started to take the cautious approach.
McGinty tries for a takedown but Amoroso circles away easily

and Amoroso decides to take the opportunity to score a takedown. He's landed in McGinty's guard.

And that's the end of the fight!
Julio Amoroso showed his dominance in that final round.
Well I reckon that's a shut out for Amoroso, winning every round. Will the judges agree? They are the ones who matter, even if they are often depressingly incompetent. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
