PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a welterweight MMA rules bout between Juan Corrida (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Antonio Davis (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Chooooooooon! I think Corrida might be my favorite fighter, now he's come out to Shadowhunter. Davis has chosen Amazing Grace by The Celtic Woman as his entrance music. Antonio Davis struggled to make weight for this fight. He only made it down to 171.6lbs at the first attempt and had to take the additional two hours to make the official bout weight. Let's see how much it's taken out of him. The fight MMA fans around the world have waited their entire lives for!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the welterweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 29 - 16 - 0, fighting out of London, Juan Corrida!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 33 - 24 - 1, fighting out of Montreal, Antonio Davis!
The judges for this bout are Robert Douchet, Alec Ball and Elvis Blanc.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Davis tries to move into range but Corrida moves to the side and lands with a nice right hand.
Davis misses the jab.
Corrida fakes a couple of low kicks, before throwing one on the third attempt. It connects and Davis has to reset his feet before getting ready to engage.
Corrida lands with a good body shot.
Davis swats away the attempt to clinch by Corrida.

Corrida throws the overhand right but ducks down into a quick takedown attempt. Davis was covering up waiting for the punch and Corrida finishes the takedown easily into guard.
Corrida advances to half guard.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.

Corrida wants to pass to mount but Davis is defending the position.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.

Well. There's a bit of a lull in the action here and the crowd are starting to get restless.

The fighters are starting to get a bit slippery now, which will make submissions a bit more difficult.

Boooooooooooooooooooo!!! God, this has been a terrible round. Come on you two, sort yourselves out!
Corrida lands a nice hook to Davis's body. Davis takes it in his stride and looks to land his own strikes.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Corrida throws a head kick that misses.
Corrida bobbing and weaving, closes the distance and lands a hook to the side of Davis's head.
Corrida motions for Davis to come forward. Corrida throws a leg kick but it misses it's target.
Davis looks to score with a jab to the body but Corrida is just out of range.

Corrida tries to close the distance and clinch up but Davis swats him away and circles back towards the center.
Davis dodges the punch combination from Corrida.
Crunch! Corrida slams his shin into Davis's torso.
Corrida definitely looks more muscular than last time we saw him fight.

Corrida fakes high and shoots in for a takedown but Davis avoids it really well and circles away.

Davis is breathing heavily.

Corrida lands with a shot to the body.

Davis takes a swing at Corrida's ribcage but misses.
Davis tries to land with a swinging hook to the body but Corrida was well out of range. Poor timing from Davis.
Davis lands a beauty of a right hand that gets the crowd cheering.
Corrida connects with a right hand. Davis shakes it off.
Corrida shoots in with a takedown attempt and he has Davis pinned against the cage. Davis gets the underhooks and manages to circle away.
Corrida fails to land with the punch combination there - jab, cross, hook, miss, miss, miss.

Excellent takedown into side control there by Corrida.
Corrida is looking to take a break and control but Davis is keeping him honest, looking to work from the bottom.

That's two minutes gone in the round.
Corrida misses with a strike but at least he's keeping busy, looking to cause some damage - that will still help him when it comes to the judges scorecards.
You can see the frustration on Davis's face as Corrida controls the position.

This is a great period of action - very entertaining stuff!
Davis is working to avoid the ground and pound but Corrida connects with a decent elbow.

A big shot lands for Corrida! That's hurt Davis! Will he recover? Corrida fires away with more strikes and the referee has to step in to stop the fight!

Juan Corrida seemed lost for words in his post fight interview but he remembered to thank his fans and directed everyone to his website.
