PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a light heavyweight MMA rules bout between Mubarak Machida (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and William Weidman (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). I can't wait for this one - let's get the fighter introductions out of the way and get this one started!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the light heavyweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 1 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Las Vegas, Mubarak Machida!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 2 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Las Vegas, William Weidman!
The judges for this bout are Alan Glass, Chris Downing and Daniel Franklin.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Machida dives in for a single leg takedown but Weidman sprawls and the fighters end up clinched against the cage.
Machida trying to control the position but instead, Weidman has worked for underhooks and has pushed Machida into the cage.
Weidman misses with a hook from the clinch.
Weidman misses with a hook to the ribs.
Weidman blocks a knee to the body. He'll have a nicely bruised forearm in the morning.
The referee is keeping an eye on Weidman - much more stalling and he will separate the fighters.
Weidman presses Machida against the cage and delivers a mid-strength body shot.
Weidman working on landing some head shots here - that one got through nicely.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Both guys are working to get underhooks.

Weidman digs a right hand into Machida's ribs. Those have got to be taking their toll on Machida's gas tank.

Weidman gets through Machida's defenses to land a nice punch to the side of the head.
Weidman tries to break the clinch but Machida is controlling the position.

Machida looks to be in better condition than last time we saw him fight. Obviously he's been working hard on his cardio.

Machida keeps control of Weidman as he tries to wriggle out of the double underhooks.

Weidman is trying to push Machida away but Machida has him pressed against the cage, so he's going nowhere.

Weidman breaks from the clinch.
Weidman lands a nice shot to the body.
Weidman throws a jab when Machida was well out of range.

Machida darts in and lands a nice takedown into half guard.
Machida is keen to just control but Weidman is a slippery customer.

Weidman is trying to stand.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
Weidman keeping his head moving to avoid the ground and pound.
Machida has been looking to land a fair amount of strikes on the ground. He might be looking to soften his opponent up in order to work for a submission.
Machida wants to lay and pray for a moment but Weidman keeps working.
Wooooo! Give it up for these two warriors! They are putting on a show!
Machida thumps the canvas. Not on purpose obviously - he just missed Weidman's head.
Weidman really doesn't want to stay on the ground with Machida. If he can't get it back to his feet, it's only a matter of time before he'll be tapping out.
Machida prevents Weidman from standing back up.
Machida wants to control but Weidman is keeping him busy.

Machida is looking for a kimura here.

Machida seems to be looking for submissions.
The crowd thankful this round is nearly over.

Machida is looking for a kimura. It's going to be difficult to finish that from half guard though and Weidman defends it well.

Machida is working for a kimura but Weidman is defending it quite comfortably.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

William Weidman dominated that round.
OK. That's time! The bell goes and we're back to the action.


Weidman takes a swing at Machida's ribcage but misses.
Weidman looks to land a combination. Machida sees it coming but can only parry a couple of the shots.
Weidman throws a wild combination but nothing lands.
Machida pulls out of a head kick attempt.
Machida tries to clinch but Weidman is having none of it.
Machida tries for a takedown but Weidman sees it coming a mile off and avoids it easily.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Weidman scores with a three punch combo!
Weidman throws the left hand but Machida avoids the punch easily.
Machida's hands are dropping dangerously low here and Weidman connects clean with a right hook that sends him down to one knee! Machida scrambles back to his feet.
Weidman looks more muscular than last time we saw him. He must have been on the weights.
William Weidman is looking to throw some combinations by the looks of things.
Machida slips under a jab from Weidman.
Weidman bobs and weaves and unloads with a good uppercut.


Machida is rocked!

That's one minute gone in the round.
Machida closes the distance and clinches up with Weidman, looking for a takedown. Machida pushes Weidman against the cage but Weidman circles to the side and manages to break the clinch.
Oh Machida is still all over the place! His legs are completely gone! Will he be able to recover?!!
Machida throws a chopping leg kick but Weidman manages to avoid taking any serious damage.
Machida gets tagged by a hook that puts him to sleep! Weidman points and yells something to his unconcious foe before strutting off. Machida wakes up just in time to hear Weidman thank his coaches in the post fight interview.

Ladies and gentlemen, after 1:13 of round 2, we have a winner by way of KO (Punch). William Weidman!
