PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a welterweight MMA rules bout between Theron Conrad (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Guido Cannetti (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Cannetti has a niggling injury. He would have liked to come in 100% fit but that's not always possible. Over to our ring announcer for the fighter introductions!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the welterweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 3 - 3 - 0, fighting out of Tokyo, Theron Conrad!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 1 - 3 - 0, fighting out of Tokyo, Guido Cannetti!
The judges for this bout are Shirou Masuda, Shigeki Sano and Hirohito Nitta.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Cannetti tries a switch kick but it misses it's target.
Conrad throws a leg kick but Cannetti moved away.

Conrad gets a clinch.

Conrad has moved round to his opponent's back and is looking for a suplex! Oh snap! He's tossed Cannetti clear over his head and slammed him to the mat!

Conrad working for a choke but Cannetti is defending well.
Cannetti wriggles onto his back under a barage of strikes.

We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.

We're hearing some news coming in from back stage. It's official - Cannetti has eaten all the pies!

Conrad with shots to the head and body - Cannetti looks very uncomfortable down there.
Conrad throws an elbow from mount that misses. Lucky escape for Cannetti because Conrad loaded up on that one.
Conrad fakes a shot to the body and cracks his opponent in the head. Nice ground and pound there!
Conrad will need to keep those long limbs tucked in whilst he's on the ground, to prevent any submissions.
Cannetti is bucking up trying to escape but Conrad cracks him with another couple of good strikes.

Conrad has control of Cannetti's right arm, working for a kimura. It's a bit of a token attempt though and Cannetti regains control of the situation pretty easily.

Conrad swings around for an armbar but it's a sloppy attempt and Cannetti is now in Conrad's guard. A big mistake from Conrad there, giving up the dominant position!
Conrad bucks up whilst keeping hold of a body lock, managing to reverse the position. Now he's in top in Cannetti's guard.

Conrad keeps in close for a moment and lands a decent shot to the side of Cannetti's head.

Conrad throws a big right hand that misses.
Conrad distracts Cannetti with his right hand and drops a big elbow with his other arm.
Conrad working in close now, lands a nice elbow to the side of Cannetti's head.

Conrad gets to his feet - Cannetti follows without any prompting.

Conrad closes the distance and gets a trip takedown into side control. Cannetti quickly recovers to half guard.

Conrad wants to work for an arm triangle but Cannetti is really keeping half guard well and defending the submission attempt.

Conrad looking for a kimura but he'll have to free his other leg if he wants to finish that. Perhaps he's just using it as a distraction technique.

Conrad throwing punches and elbows but they're not doing any damage.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
The crowd thankful this round is nearly over.

The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Conrad thows a wild elbow that connects with the canvas.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

The fighters' corners scream their final instructions, as the referee calls time. Here we go, back to the action!



Conrad shoots in for a takedown! He's got it and he's managed to land in side control! That's better than Conrad was expecting from the takedown attempt, I'm sure!

Conrad goes for an armbar! This could be all over! Wait, no, Cannetti rolls with the submission and now he's on top in Conrad's guard! Nice work there by Cannetti!

Cannetti gets to his feet and steps away from his opponent.

Conrad gets in close and instigates a clinch.

Conrad breaks the clinch and we return to the middle of the mat.

Conrad is trying to trip Cannetti. He has hold of a leg but Cannetti is hopping around, keeping his balance for the moment. Conrad persists though and gets the takedown into guard.

Conrad gets control of Cannetti's arms and successfully pulls guard. Conrad will no doubt be looking for submissions off his back.

Conrad has clasped his hands together around Cannetti's back... aaand, he's got a takedown into side control. Nicely done.

A momentary lapse in concentration from Cannetti enables Conrad to shoot in and score with a neat double leg. Cannetti manages to secure a closed guard as the fighters hit the mat.

Conrad really does look like a pencil wearing a pair of gloves. Let's hope he has a gameplan to suit that ridiculous body shape.

That's the end of the interval. I'm sure that seemed a lot quicker than a minute for our two fighters! Back to the action. And we move into the final round!

Conrad's corner calls for him to break the clinch, which he does.

Conrad drives through and clinches with Cannetti against the cage.

Cannetti shoots in looking for a takedown. Conrad tries to sprawl out of it but Cannetti keeps driving through. The fighters are pinned against the cage. Conrad manages to get underhooks and after a bit of a struggle, circles away and we're back to standing.

Cannetti takes a big intake of breath there - he's definitely tired.

Conrad is working on a single leg takedown against the cage. Cannetti can't fight it off and eventually Conrad manages to take the fight to the floor. Cannetti looks annoyed but at least he's managed to land in guard.

The ref stands the fighters back up due to a lack of activity.

The fight moves into the clinch position.
Conrad is trying to slow down the pace in the clinch, to catch his breath.

Conrad jumps guard and drags Cannetti to the mat. He's obviously going to be looking for submissions off his back.

Conrad is looking for a guillotine. You can't force these things though and Cannetti defends well.

Conrad escapes his hips to the side and looks to be working for an armbar. Cannetti gives him a little smile and shakes his head. No chance.

Conrad has his foot on Cannetti's thigh. He's trying to push off and get in position for a triangle, I think. Cannetti works his way back into a safe position though.

The crowd are starting to boo a lack of action.
Cannetti stands up out of Conrad's guard for a moment - Conrad manages to land a nice upkick.

The referee has decided to stand the fighters back up, so we'll restart on the feet.

Well Conrad has outscored his opponent in every aspect of the fight today. Only a scarily incompetent judge or two will keep him from a well deserved win... Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
