PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a middleweight MMA rules bout between Martin Riggs (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Big Boy (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). I'm sure you'll be fascinated to know that I was talking to some pointless Z list celebrity before the fight and he thought that Big Boy was going to win. Let's see if he was right.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the middleweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 1 - 2 - 0, fighting out of New York, Martin Riggs!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 1 - 1 - 0, fighting out of New York, Big Boy!
The judges for this bout are Alyssa Summers, Steve Montenegro and Franklyn Lucas.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Riggs slips in close and lands a nice hook before moving back out of range.
Riggs connects with a good right hand that stumbles Boy. Boy circles away out of range and recomposes himself.
Boy misses with a low kick as Riggs jumps back.
Riggs throws a shot to the body.
Riggs seems to be moving with more speed, compared to his last bout. He must have been working on that in the gym.

Boy takes the fight into the clinch.
Riggs tries to break the clinch but Boy is controlling the position.
Riggs working Boy over with knees to the body.
Boy looks winded!

Riggs is trying to break free.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Boy is trying to slow down the pace of the fight but Riggs is keeping busy.
Riggs has Boy pressed against the cage, preventing Boy from circling away and getting back to striking at range.

Boy shoots in and gets a takedown into half guard. Boy showed some decent athleticism there.

This is a great period of action - very entertaining stuff!

Riggs thuds a left hand into Boy's body.
Riggs chopping away at his opponent's legs.
Big Boy seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.

Riggs gets a clinch.
Nice body punch from Riggs - that landed with a thud.
Boy avoiding damage as Riggs throws knees to the body.
Boy takes a knee right on the jaw!
Riggs is trying to work out of this bad position, with his back against the cage.

Riggs breaks the clinch and we return to the middle of the mat.
Riggs connects with a solid leg kick.
The fight stays on the outside here - Riggs looks like he's thinking about clinching though.

Boy is working on a leg, looking for a takedown but Riggs is defending well.

Riggs breaks the clinch and we're back to striking at distance.
Riggs uses some good footwork to avoid the body shot by Boy.
Boy throws out a loose jab but Riggs uses good head movement to avoid it.

Boy blocks the body kick.
Boy chopped to the floor by a nice leg kick but he springs right back up before Riggs can pounce on him.
Riggs tries to clinch up but Boy circles away and keeps his distance.
Riggs lands a nice hook to Boy's body. Boy takes it in his stride and looks to land his own strikes.
Riggs connects with a leg kick. He turned his hip over nicely there.

Riggs shapes like he's going to throw a leg kick but settles back down.

Boy takes a body punch that cleary hurt but he's trying not to show any weakness.
Riggs motions for Boy to come forward. Riggs throws a leg kick but it misses it's target.
Riggs lands with a good body shot.
Riggs thumps Boy with a low kick.
Both fighters circling a little - Riggs finishes the exchange with a kick to the body.
The fans in attendance giving it up for the two fighters, who have really let it all hang out in the last minute or so!
Riggs lands a right hook to the body.
Riggs throws a leg kick which misses Boy's front leg but catches the back leg as Boy tries to avoid it.
Boy stumbles momentarily as he takes a strong leg kick from Riggs.
Boy's leg has a nasty welt from taking a succession of leg kicks. That must be slowing him down.
Riggs feints with a shoulder and throws a nice leg kick to Boy's calf.

Boy on the wrong end of an overhand right that came out of nowhere.
Riggs connects with a nice looking jab.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

The fighters' corners scream their final instructions, as the referee calls time. Here we go, back to the action!

Riggs jabs Boy to the body, keeping him at a distance.
Riggs scores with a punch to the head.
Riggs lands a straight punch to the body, keeping Boy at a distance.
Riggs scores with a jab.
Riggs punishes Boy's body with a nice straight punch.
Riggs lands a kick to the ribs of his opponent. Nice work there - in and out in a flash.
Boy tries to check a leg kick but that clearly hurt him.
Martin Riggs is winning the standup battle so far.
Riggs pivots as if he's going to throw a leg kick but stops half way.
Boy is breathing heavily.
A slapping body kick lands there for Riggs.
Boy takes a body punch but keeps moving.
Fantastic stuff here - a very entertaining period of action, which has drawn cheers from the crowd.

Boy on the wrong end of a nice low kick. He's acting like it's no big deal but he doesn't want to take many more of those.

Riggs is really dominating this fight. Is there anything that Boy can do to turn this around?

Riggs gets underhooks to prevent Boy's takedown attempt.
Riggs is trying to push Boy away but Boy has him pressed against the cage, so he's going nowhere.
Riggs is leaning against Boy and scores with a nice uppercut to the body.
Riggs lands a left hand.
With the two fighters working up against the cage, Riggs just misses with a elbow thrown towards Boy's brow.

Riggs breaks the clinch and we're back to striking at distance.
Boy fails with a rather predictable takedown attempt.
Riggs stuns Boy with a nice body shot, before stepping back out of range.
This has been an exciting period of action!
A nice leg kick lands there from Riggs.
Boy dives in and grabs Riggs's left leg, looking for a takedown. Riggs pushes down on Boy's head and hops out.
Martin Riggs has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Big Boy.

Boy has his head snapped back a nice jab. A little nod from Boy there as he acknowledges the shot.

Riggs wings a very wild body shot but it does the job and lands to the midsection.
Riggs scores with a reasonable looking shot to the body. Boy doesn't seem bothered though.

Boy shakes his hands off, looking to compose himself, but takes a jab to the jaw whilst he does it.

Riggs tries to land a front kick but Boy steps back. That was a bit too telegraphed.
Donk. Riggs catches Boy right on the button with a cross.

and Riggs counters with a low kick, right behind Boy 's knee.

Boy takes a big intake of breath there - he's definitely tired.

Riggs fakes a couple of low kicks, before throwing one on the third attempt. It connects and Boy has to reset his feet before getting ready to engage.

Riggs connects with a leg kick. He turned his hip over nicely there.
Boy moves his head to the side to avoid a jab but walks straight into a cross.
Riggs is looking to clinch.
Riggs tries to clinch up against the cage, rushing in to close the distance. Boy manages to break the clinch and circles back to the middle of the mat.

Boy tries to check a leg kick but that clearly hurt him.
Riggs jabs Boy to the body, keeping him at a distance.

Riggs throws a series of strikes that have Boy backpedaling.
Boy misses with a half-hearted attempt at a head kick.
Boy steps to his left, right into the path of a big body kick from Riggs. That one must have hurt.
Riggs turns his hip over beautifully as he lands a nice leg kick.
Riggs looks to score with a combo but nothing lands.
Riggs scores with a spinning back kick!
A left and a right from Riggs both land. Nice combination.
We've seen a great period of action over the last minute or so - credit to both fighters for going all out!
Riggs tries to close the distance and clinch up against the cage but Boy paws at him with a jab and circles away.

Riggs with a body punch. A glancing blow.
Boy throws a looping left and ducks down for a takedown. He's got his arms around Riggs's waist but Riggs gets an underhook and avoids the takedown by throwing Boy off to one side.

Boy will have to do better than that with his takedown attempts.
Martin Riggs has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Big Boy.

Boy decides to change it up a bit and drives through with a nice takedown into half guard.

Well I reckon that's a shut out for Riggs, winning every round. Will the judges agree? They are the ones who matter, even if they are often depressingly incompetent. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
