PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a light heavyweight MMA rules bout between Jimmie Giles (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Dane Kane (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Both fighters really staring each other down here, as Dane Kane enters the cage!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the light heavyweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 3 - 1 - 0, fighting out of St Petersburg, Jimmie Giles!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 6 - 10 - 0, fighting out of St Petersburg, Dane Kane!
The judges for this bout are Ivan Kurochkin, Aleksei Zolotukhin and Aleksandr Martynov.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Good exchange - Giles coming out on top.
The fighters circling - Giles throws out the jab but it was never going to land.
Giles pushing out the jab but it's not landing.
A big left from Giles misses.
Kane takes a shot to the nose. Hopefully that hasn't broken it.

Kane shoots in and bounces Giles off the cage to secure the takedown into guard.
Kane chips away with some ground and pound.
Kane won't allow Giles to sweep him here.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Giles is trying to stand up but he's not managed so far.
Kane engaging in some classic timewasting tactics.
Giles wants to control the position but Kane says "no thanks buddy" and passes to half guard.

Kane wants to free his trapped foot but Giles is holding on for dear life with his legs.

Kane is working for a kimura but Giles is defending it quite comfortably.
Kane takes a deep breath and rests his weight momentarily on top of his opponent, to control the position.

The crowd are hurling abuse towards the fighters... You can hardly blame them though because there isn't a lot going on in the fight.
Giles knows he needs to get back to his feet asap. He's simply no match for Kane on the ground.

Kane takes a deep breath and rests his weight momentarily on top of his opponent, to control the position.
The referee must be thinking about standing these guys back up.

Kane is sneakily working for an arm triangle but Giles sees it coming and defends easily.

The referee has stepped in and called for a break in the action. We'll restart on the feet.
Giles lands a jab to the head.
Giles jabs Kane right on the nose. Kane blinks but takes it well.
Giles misses with a wild body shot.

Kane closes the distance and gets a double leg, slamming Giles to the mat! Giles manages to get full guard.

That's three minutes gone in the round.
Kane stands and throws Giles's legs to the side, diving into side control.
Kane advances to mount.
Kane throwing sloppy strikes here. Perhaps if he tightened up his striking from such a dominant position, he'd be able to finish easier.

Giles holding onto his opponent's waist for dear life, as Kane tries to land some strikes to get him to release his grip.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.

Kane content just to control the position here.
It looks like Kane might be adopting somewhat of a lay and pray gameplan here, which I'm sure won't go down too well with the paying fans in attendance... Or the ring announcers come to think of it.
Kane has the superior BJJ but he's also working some ground strikes into his gameplan.
Let's hope that Kane has the urge to step up the pace any second now because for the last 15 or 20 seconds he's just been holding on tight.
Kane has his opponent pinned against the cage, landing some nasty ground and pound that is really making a bit of a mess out of Giles's face.
The crowd thankful this round is nearly over.
Giles can't escape the position.

Kane is in full mount, looking to secure a guillotine but Giles is surviving well by controlling Kane's body position as best he can.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Dane Kane dominated that round.
The corners get their ten second warning. Both fighters stand from their stools and stare eachother down, ready to get back to the action.

and Kane counters with a nice double leg into side control. Giles won't be happy with that.
Kane has been the more effective fighter overall so far.
Giles wants to escape from the position here - easier said than done!

Kane wants to work for a kimura but he's foiled early by Giles, who protects the arm well.
Kane creates some space and throws a big elbow, but Giles sees it coming and moves his head just enough to avoid the strike.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Giles manages to work his way to half guard, despite Kane's best efforts.
Still in half guard, Kane seems content to control.

Kane seems content to maintain position for now, rather than mounting any offense.
The fighters are battling for position here. Giles manages to regain full guard. Nice work.

Well. There's a bit of a lull in the action here and the crowd are starting to get restless.
Kane staying out of range there.
Kane uses decent footwork to sidestep a right hand from Giles.
Kane fails with a takedown attempt from distance.
Dane Kane is looking to throw some combinations by the looks of things.
Kane takes a solid shot to the body. That one hurt him but he's trying not to show it.
Giles checks a leg kick.
Kane dives in and grabs Giles's left leg, looking for a takedown. Giles pushes down on Kane's head and hops out.
Jimmie Giles has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Dane Kane.
Giles throws out a loose jab but Kane uses good head movement to avoid it.
Kane is trying hard to land a takedown here. Giles sprawls well and keeps this one on the feet.

Giles's jab looks to have found its range, popping Kane under the eye.

Kane closes the distance and gets a trip takedown into side control. Giles quickly recovers to half guard.

Giles pushes Kane off looking to stand but Kane dives back in and keeps control.

The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.

Kane decides he's had enough of playing guard and decides to stand. Come on Giles, up you get!
Kane shoots in for a takedown but Giles shows good takedown defense there and keeps this one on the feet.
Giles lands a vicious shot with the stealth of a sniper and the strength of a viper. Are vipers that strong? I can think of lots of things that are stronger than a viper - not many rhyme with sniper though.

Giles looks to throw the jab but Kane is out of range.
Kane tries to shoot in for a takedown. He's got hold of a leg but Giles swivels and escapes.
Kane takes an uppercut right on the button but keeps his composure.
Giles looks to land a left hand but Kane moved out of range nicely.
Giles works his jab well there, keeping his opponent at a distance.
Giles lands a nice looking body shot.
Giles dips down and scores with a jab to the body.
Giles stuffs a takedown. It's all about dictating where the fight takes place and Giles wants it to stay on the feet.
Kane blocks a jab.
This is a great period of action - very entertaining stuff!
Giles is moving around nicely and scores here with a single head shot.
Giles lands a straight punch to the body, keeping Kane at a distance.

Giles connects nicely with a jab. Noted by the judges no doubt.
Giles lands a glancing blow to the side of Kane's head.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

That's time! Giles's corner gives him a slap on the ass as he gets ready to fight. This is the final round!


Giles lands with a straight right. Kane didn't see that one coming.
Giles fakes high and swings low for a body shot but Kane manages to avoid it.
Kane has his head snapped back a nice jab. A little nod from Kane there as he acknowledges the shot.
Kane will have to do better than that with his takedown attempts.
A decent looking cross lands there for Giles.
Giles looks to throw the jab but Kane is out of range.
Kane tries to drive through with a takedown attempt but Giles defends well and Kane ends up having to push Giles into the cage where they will battle it out in the clinch.

Kane's corner calls for him to break the clinch, which he does.

Jimmie Giles seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.

We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Giles throws a shot to the body.
Giles loads up on a big right hand but Kane slips the punch.
Giles scores with a sloppy right hand. Kane should have avoided that one.
Giles lands a jab to the head.
It looks like Giles has been trying to sharpen up his punching technique, as it looks crisper than last time we saw him.
Fantastic stuff here - a very entertaining period of action, which has drawn cheers from the crowd.

Kane moves into range and clinches up with Giles.

Kane has double underhooks and is working for a body lock takedown. He's got it. The fighters land in half guard but Giles regains guard immediately.
Kane stands up and looks to throw the legs aside to pass to side control. Giles swivels though and keeps the full guard.
Giles wants to stand but Kane is controlling the position.
Kane passes Giles's left leg - he's now in half guard.
Kane is just sitting in half guard, waiting for something to happen.

That's two minutes gone in the round.
Dane Kane has got the better of the ground game so far.
Kane's corner are shouting for him to control the position and he seems happy to oblige.

The referee decides to stand the fighters back up.

Kane shoots in for a takedown from distance. He catches Giles napping and manages to drive through into side control!

Kane in side control, just content to control the action for now.
A control attempt from Giles but he's now mounted!

That's four minutes gone in the round.
There's not a lot going on here and the crowd are letting the fighters know they're not willing to tolerate a lack of action.
Kane controlling the position easily from mount.

Giles is desperately trying to improve his position but Kane has a good base and remains in mount.
The crowd thankful this round is nearly over.

Kane looking for an armbar but decides to keep the dominant position instead.
Kane lands a couple of good shots and Giles has given up his back, trying to escape the position!

And that's the end of the fight!
I would just about give that final round to Dane Kane.
I think Kane has won this one but let's see whether the judges agree with me. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
