PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a welterweight MMA rules bout between Reuben Allison (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Mason Darnell (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). There are an array of beautiful celebrities at ringside tonight! I wonder if any of them paid for their tickets.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the welterweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 3 - 2 - 0, fighting out of Las Vegas, Reuben Allison!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 0 - 1 - 0, fighting out of Las Vegas, Mason Darnell!
The judges for this bout are Frank Dennis, Stewart Dunkirk and Alan Glass.

The bell rings for round one and we are underway!

Darnell drives through with a really nice takedown into side control.

Darnell working hard here to secure a kimura but he's not really in the right position for it.
Allison can't do much from the bottom here.
Darnell avoids the strikes from the bottom by Allison.
Darnell misses with the ground and pound.
Darnell landing with strikes to the head and body from side control.
Allison wants to control but Darnell postures up.
Darnell throws a knee to the body but it doesn't do much damage.
Allison is looking for a sweep.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Darnell lands a knee to the body and a forearm to the face.
Allison dodges the ground and pound from Darnell.
Allison is sneaking out the side here. He's bucked Darnell off and has taken his back!
Darnell covers up after that shot from Allison.
Darnell really doesn't want to stay on the ground with Allison. If he can't get it back to his feet, it's only a matter of time before he'll be tapping out.
We've seen a great period of action over the last minute or so - credit to both fighters for going all out!
Darnell is trying to stand back up.

That's one minute gone in the round.
Allison is throwing strikes from the back here. Oh that last one was to the back of the head. Allison gets a warning from the referee. He throws another strike to the back of the head straight away though and the referee has seen enough. He breaks up the two fighters and stands them back up. Allison gets a real talking to here and is lucky not to get a point deducted. Allison apologises and we restart here on the feet.
Darnell throws a series of punches but Allison moves out of range.

Allison closes the distance and clinches.
Allison scores with a nice hook to the head.

Allison has double underhooks and is working for a body lock takedown. He's got it. The fighters land in half guard but Darnell regains guard immediately.

Allison lands a couple of elbows.
We get told so often about how wrestlers don't like to be on their backs. Let's see if Darnell can do anything to dispel that myth.

That's two minutes gone in the round.
Allison postures up to throw the ground and pound strikes but they don't connect.
Allison has been looking to land a fair amount of strikes on the ground. He might be looking to soften his opponent up in order to work for a submission.

A big thud reverberates around the arena there as Allison accidentally thumps the mat. Hopefully he's not broken his hand.
We've had a lack of effective grappling in the last minute or so, which could well see a referee standup.
Allison throws a big elbow that misses.

The referee has decided to stand the fighters back up, so we'll restart on the feet.

Darnell has Allison up against the cage in a clinch.
This is a great period of action - very entertaining stuff!
Allison on the defensive, avoiding the knees to the body.
Allison really does look like a pencil wearing a pair of gloves. Let's hope he has a gameplan to suit that ridiculous body shape.
Allison has had enough of the clinch and is looking to separate.

Darnell manages to break the clinch.
Allison tries to clinch but Darnell is having none of it.

Darnell takes the fight into the clinch.
Allison can't get the takedown.

Allison ties up his opponent against the cage and manages to drag the fight down to the ground. Allison no doubt will be looking to work submissions from his guard.

The fighters are starting to perspire pretty heavily.
Allison has his foot on Darnell's thigh. He's trying to push off and get in position for a triangle, I think. Darnell works his way back into a safe position though.
Allison has momentary wrist control but Darnell slips an elbow through the middle.

Allison is pulling down on Darnell's head to control his posture.
Darnell must be cautious of submissions here, given that his opponent has the superior Jiu Jitsu.

Allison has control of Darnell's left arm, preventing Darnell from doing any damage.
Darnell working in close now, lands a nice elbow to the side of Allison's head.
Darnell wants to control from the top but Allison keeps moving.
Allison seems keen to control Darnell's posture.
Allison's ground tactics aren't going to win him many fans. Let's hope he's got fireworks for us if he gets back to his feet because he's not doing much on the ground.

Darnell is fighting to break Allison's control of his arms but Allison is doing a good job of controlling the position at the moment.
Darnell stops Allison from standing up.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

That was a close round but I would say that Reuben Allison will probably get the nod.
That's the end of the round. The referee orders the cornermen out of the cage so we can get back down to business.

Darnell shoots in for a takedown. Oh, that's a huge slam! Allison is on queer street and Darnell is pounding down on him with a barage of strikes. The ref is forced to step in and stop the fight. Great finish!
