Melendez comes to the cage accompanied by Rage Against The Machine - Bulls On Parade. The crowd giving both fighters a great reception on their way into the arena. That's good to see.

And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 1 - 3 - 0, fighting out of Rio de Janeiro, Joe Lewis!

The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Melendez throws a front kick that sends Lewis stumbling back into the cage.

Melendez darts in looking for a takedown but Lewis gets double underhooks and turns Melendez into the cage.

Lewis tightens his grip and picks Melendez up, before dumping him to the ground. Melendez manages to land in guard.

Lewis drops back for a leg! It's a sloppy attempt though and Lewis jumps back into guard quickly, to retain the dominant position.

Lewis has managed to pull guard. Let's see whether he can work an aggressive guard. It will also be interesting to see what tactics Melendez uses from the top position.

Lewis feints and then dives in with a takedown. That was a long way out but the feint bought him enough time to close the distance and complete the takedown. Now we'll play guard for a bit and see who can get the better of that position.

Joe Lewis showed his class in that round. I'd imagine he'll take it on all the scorecards.

Melendez is fighting off a takedown attempt but Lewis is just too persistent for him and manages to trip Melendez to the mat. Melendez regains guard as soon as the fighters hit the mat.

Lewis stands up and looks to throw the legs aside to pass to side control. Melendez swivels though and keeps the full guard.

Melendez is putting a lot of effort into getting back to his feet here.
