PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a welterweight MMA rules bout between Polo Cambodia (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Mick Ward (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Mick Ward will no doubt be trying to keep this one on the feet, where he has a distinct advantage.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the welterweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 15 - 4 - 0, fighting out of Las Vegas, Polo Cambodia!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 8 - 10 - 0, fighting out of St Petersburg, Mick Ward!
The judges for this bout are Igor Prikhodko, Konstantin Menshow and Valeri Chadov.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Cambodia throws a hook but Ward avoids it easily.
Cambodia missing with a left hand there. Ward was out of range so wasted energy throwing that one.

Cambodia fakes a strike and closes the distance, dragging Ward to the ground. Cambodia is now in Ward's guard.
Ward looking to hit a scissor sweep but Cambodia is one step ahead there.
Cambodia controlling from the guard. I say controlling but really, he's stalling.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Cambodia seems to have a rather negative gameplan on the ground. He seems keen to just score the takedown and hold down Ward for as long as he can get away with.

Cambodia continues to stall.
Cambodia is standing up over Ward. Ward looks to escape but Cambodia dives into side control.
Ward pushes Cambodia away and creates a bit of space to escape. He's almost out here... but no, Cambodia gets a good hold of his legs and remains firmly in side control.
Cambodia gets to mount! Ward was on the offensive and wasn't defending properly.
Ward is bucking up trying to escape but Cambodia cracks him with another couple of good strikes.

Ward tries to hold on but Cambodia pushes him away.
Cambodia controlling from the full mount.
More hug and hope from Cambodia.

Ward is wriggling around trying to escape.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.

That's four minutes gone in the round.
Neither fighter has done anything of merit for a good minute or two here and the crowd are not happy about it.
Cambodia controlling the position easily from mount.
Cambodia has controlled the position for a good 20 seconds, which will no doubt be starting to frustrate his opponent.
Boooooooooooooooooooo!!! God, this has been a terrible round. Come on you two, sort yourselves out!
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Polo Cambodia dominated that round.
The fighters get back to their feet, the hooter sounds and we're back to the action!



Cambodia closes the distance and gets a double leg, slamming Ward to the mat! Ward manages to get full guard.
Cambodia slows down the pace of the fight, as he sits in guard.
Ward tries to land a sweep but no joy.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Cambodia prevents Ward from getting back to his feet.
Cambodia slows down the pace of the fight for a moment. He'll need to remain active if he doesn't want to see the fight stood back up.
Cambodia pushing down on Ward's thigh, trying to pass to half guard. He's managed it... Nice work.

Cambodia content to control rather than advance.
Ward is looking to get full guard. It looks like he might be successful but at the last minute Cambodia jumps into side control!

The referee is asking the fighters to pick up the pace.

The crowd are hurling abuse towards the fighters... You can hardly blame them though because there isn't a lot going on in the fight.

The referee has stepped in and called for a break in the action. We'll restart on the feet.

Cambodia shoots in from a long way out. He's driving through with the takedown attempt and he eventually gets it, landing in Ward's guard.
Cambodia might be looking to lock onto one of his opponent's long limbs for a submission, whilst we're on the ground.
Cambodia is frustrating his opponent with some stalling tactics from top position.
Cambodia is standing up over Ward. Ward looks to escape but Cambodia dives into side control.
Ward tries to bench press Cambodia off him but Cambodia keeps the position.
Cambodia tries to advance to mount but Ward denies him.

Ward tries to slip a leg under to move to half guard but Cambodia presses down on the leg and jumps into full mount!

Cambodia's ground tactics aren't going to win him many fans. Let's hope he's got fireworks for us if he gets back to his feet because he's not doing much on the ground.
Cambodia prevents Ward from getting the reversal.

My god... these two guys really need to pick up the pace or everyone will leave to go get a beer.
Ward tries to hold on but Cambodia pushes him away.
Polo Cambodia overall seems to be getting the better of the ground position in the fight so far.
Ward tries to reverse the position but Cambodia maintains control.
Cambodia controlling his opponent.
Ward is desperately trying to get back to half guard.
Ward is still trying to improve position.
Boooooooooooooooooooo!!! God, this has been a terrible round. Come on you two, sort yourselves out!

OK. That's time! The bell goes and we're back to the action. Let's get this one finished - here comes the final round!


Cambodia works the jab nicely.

Cambodia throws a loose over hand right and dives in with a double leg takedown. Ward tries to sprawl but it's too late and the fighters hit the mat. Cambodia is in Ward's guard.
