PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a heavyweight MMA rules bout between Don Cheadle (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Howard Langston (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Chooooooooon! I think Cheadle might be my favorite fighter, now he's come out to Intergalactic Rock. Both fighters really staring eachother down here, as Howard Langston enters the cage!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the heavyweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 6 - 3 - 0, fighting out of Los Angeles, Don Cheadle!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 4 - 2 - 0, fighting out of Los Angeles, Howard Langston!
The judges for this bout are , Frank Antenori and Timothy Bukovac.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Cheadle throws a series of strikes that have Langston backpedaling.
Cheadle misses with a few strikes there.

Langston clinches.
Cheadle wants to strike at distance but he can't break free of the clinch.
Langston goes for a takedown attempt but Cheadle pushes him away and we're back to fighting at a distance.
Cheadle takes a jab on the nose. He smiles like he loves it and keeps coming.

Langston looking for a takedown here - he's got it.
Cheadle is looking to get back to his feet but can't, whilst Langston is controlling him.
Langston seems content to control from guard here. He's going to have to remain active though if he doesn't want to get stood back up.
A big thud reverberates around the arena there as Langston accidentally thumps the mat. Hopefully he's not broken his hand.
Langston prevents Cheadle from getting back to his feet.

Cheadle trying desperately to get back to his feet here but he's not having any joy at all. He's going to tire himself out if he's not careful.

It looks like we're going to have a standup here. Neither fighter is doing enough on the ground.
Langston throws out a loose jab but Cheadle uses good head movement to avoid it.

and Langston counters with a driving takedown into guard. Nice work there by Langston.
Cheadle is trying to stand up but he's not managed so far.

Langston seems content to control from guard here. He's going to have to remain active though if he doesn't want to get stood back up.

The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
Cheadle is working an open guard here, looking to improve his position. No doubt that will leave him open to counters but at least he's being more offensive.
Langston must be cautious of submissions here, given that his opponent has the superior Jiu Jitsu.

Cheadle is looking to stand up but Langston isn't so interested in that idea.

The referee decides to stand the fighters back up.
Langston misses with a double jab
and Cheadle counters with a two punch combo.
Cheadle misses with a few strikes there.
Langston looks to land a combination but Cheadle avoids it well.

Langston shoots in with a takedown attempt and he has Cheadle pinned against the cage. Cheadle gets the underhooks and manages to circle away.
Cheadle throws a combination. Langston tries to block but a couple of punches get through.

Langston is the aggressor but that punch slipped nicely by Cheadle.

Cheadle is trying to break the clinch but Langston has him pressed against the cage.

and Langston counters with a shoot takedown. Cheadle fights it but they end up in guard.
The crowd applaud the fighters efforts here as the round comes to an end.
Langston postures up and scores with a shot to the body and a follow up elbow to the head.
Cheadle is looking to stand up but Langston isn't so interested in that idea.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Howard Langston dominated that round.
The corners get their ten second warning. Both fighters stand from their stools and stare eachother down, ready to get back to the action.

It looks like Don Cheadle has been cut.
Cheadle walks straight into an uppercut. Luckily it didn't land flush.
Langston tries to clinch up
letting Cheadle counter with a right hand.
Cheadle closes the distance looking to clinch
and Langston connects with a straight left hand counter down the middle.

Cheadle forces Langston back against the cage and clinches.
Cheadle gets underhooks to prevent Langston's takedown attempt.
Langston keeps control of Cheadle as he tries to wriggle out of the double underhooks.

Cheadle escapes the clinch and we're back to striking.

Cheadle clinches up with Langston and pushes him back against the cage.
Langston drops down for a takedown but doesn't get it.
Cheadle tries to break the clinch but Langston is controlling the position.
Langston changes levels and goes for a takedown here. Cheadle fights it off and pushes away nicely.
Don Cheadle has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Howard Langston.
A really sloppy takedown attempt there from Langston.
Cheadle fakes a head shot and lands one to the body.

and Langston counters with a takedown into side control.
Cheadle is working hard to escape and get back to his feet. After a battle for position, Langston asserts his dominance and retains side control.

Both fighters are absolutely exhausted here.
Langston remains in side control and seems content to stay there. It's a versatile position from which he can work both strikes and submissions, whilst maintaining that control, so maybe he'll sit here for a while.
Cheadle pushes Langston away and creates a bit of space to escape. He's almost out here... but no, Langston gets a good hold of his legs and remains firmly in side control.

Cheadle is trying to stand back up. He's worked his way up against the cage but Langston has just dragged him back down to the mat.

Well, the referee has seen enough. Neither fighter is active enough on the ground so he's stood them back up.

Langston shoots in and gets a takedown into half guard. Langston showed some decent athleticism there.

The crowd applaud the fighters efforts here as the round comes to an end.

Langston is taking a breather. Cheadle says something to him but it's hard to make out. Perhaps he's telling him to get on with it and actually do something.

Howard Langston showed his class in that round. I'd imagine he'll take it on all the scorecards.

That's the end of the round. The referee orders the cornermen out of the cage so we can get back down to business. So, we enter the final round. Let's see if either fighter can bring us a finish, or whether we're going to the judges scorecards.

Langston has Cheadle pressed up against the cage. He's trying to work for a single leg takedown. Langston pulls back from the cage and twists to the side, sending Cheadle tumbling to the mat - Langston dives into Cheadle's guard.
Cheadle wants to stand and escape but Langston is having none of it.
Langston controls the pace of the fight for a moment.

Howard Langston is fighting for a decision here - he's started to take the cautious approach.

Cheadle pushes Langston off for just long enough to get back to his feet. Very athletic spring there.
Fantastic stuff here - a very entertaining period of action, which has drawn cheers from the crowd.

I've got Langston winning every round here. Surely the decision will go his way and he'll pick up a well deserved decision victory. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
