Coming up we have a bantamweight MMA rules bout between Wayne McGain (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Francis Violanta (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Over to our ring announcer for the fighter introductions!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the bantamweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 2 - 2 - 0, fighting out of The Island, Wayne McGain!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of The Island, Francis Violanta!
The judges for this bout are Peter Branson, Sandra Marshall and Dirk Anderson.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Violanta has his takedown stuffed
and McGain finishes the little exchange by landing a big kick to the body.
McGain shoots and misses

and Violanta counters with a driving takedown into guard. Nice work there by Violanta.
We could do with one of the fighters taking the initiative a bit more on the ground - they're both waiting to capitalize on a mistake.
Violanta stands up and looks to throw the legs aside to pass to side control. McGain swivels though and keeps the full guard.
McGain has his hands on Violanta's head, controlling the position.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.

McGain working from the bottom, still in full guard. He's managed to get a loose triangle. Violanta doesn't seem to be doing much to defend here, obviously he feels comfortable in the position. Violanta manages to throw the legs off his shoulder and he's back into guard - no problem.

Violanta not doing a lot at the moment. He'll have to show some more aggression or the fight will get stood up.
Violanta won't allow McGain to sweep him here.
Violanta really doesn't want to stay on the ground with McGain. If he can't get it back to his feet, it's only a matter of time before he'll be tapping out.
McGain is working hard here to advance position.

Violanta must be cautious of submissions here, given that his opponent has the superior Jiu Jitsu.

McGain has his foot on Violanta's thigh. He's trying to push off and get in position for a triangle, I think. Violanta works his way back into a safe position though.
Violanta is a painfully thin specimen of a man. You do wonder whether a good body kick would snap him clean in two.

The crowd are getting on the fighters' backs, as the pace has dropped off in the last minute or so.
McGain pulls Violanta in close to prevent any damage.
Violanta pressing down on his opponent's thigh, looking to pass guard. McGain is keeping the position for now.

The ref stands the fighters back up due to a lack of activity.
Wayne McGain seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.
McGain shoots in with a takedown attempt and he has Violanta pinned against the cage. Violanta gets the underhooks and manages to circle away.

That's three minutes gone in the round.

McGain closes the distance and gets a trip takedown into side control. Violanta quickly recovers to half guard.
Violanta wants to get back to his feet.
McGain is looking to take a break and control but Violanta is keeping him honest, looking to work from the bottom.
Violanta wants to improve his position but McGain is controlling well.

That's four minutes gone in the round.
Violanta is controlling McGain's trapped leg to prevent McGain from advancing to side control.
Well, if McGain is going to just lie there, perhaps we should talk about what we're having for dinner tonight… I'm having a ham and pineapple pizza… Yum. Can't wait.
We get told so often about how wrestlers don't like to be on their backs. Let's see if Violanta can do anything to dispel that myth.
We must be close to a standup if these guys don't pick up the pace.
Boooooooooooooooooooo!!! God, this has been a terrible round. Come on you two, sort yourselves out!
McGain works his way into full mount!
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

That's the end of the interval. I'm sure that seemed a lot quicker than a minute for our two fighters! Back to the action.



McGain dives in and scores a takedown into Violanta's guard.
Violanta managing to control the position.
The fighters are starting to perspire pretty heavily.
McGain controls from within his opponent's guard.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
McGain trying to control but Violanta is working from the bottom.
McGain might be looking to lock onto one of his opponent's long limbs for a submission, whilst we're on the ground.

McGain looking to pass the guard.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
McGain trying to control the position from guard on top but Violanta is wriggling around, looking for whatever he can.
McGain stands up and looks to throw the legs aside to pass to side control. Violanta swivels though and keeps the full guard.
Violanta is looking to get back to his feet but can't, whilst McGain is controlling him.

The referee has decided to stand the fighters back up, so we'll restart on the feet.

That's two minutes gone in the round.
Well. There's a bit of a lull in the action here and the crowd are starting to get restless.
Violanta goes for a double leg but McGain avoids the attempt and the two fighters end up clinched against the cage as McGain continues to drive forward.

McGain escapes the clinch and we're back to striking.
McGain doesn't succeed with the takedown

and Violanta counters with a takedown into side control.
McGain is trying to get back to half guard.
Violanta is looking to take a break and control but McGain is keeping him honest, looking to work from the bottom.

That's three minutes gone in the round.
McGain is looking to regain half guard here but Violanta keeps moving and retains side control.
McGain gets back to half guard.
McGain is trying to get back to full guard.

That's four minutes gone in the round.
The crowd are getting on the fighters' backs, as the pace has dropped off in the last minute or so.
McGain is looking to control Violanta's leg but it's slowly edging free. Can McGain avoid being mounted?

Violanta is looking to stall in half guard but McGain is in no mood to hang around. He's locked up a Kimura from the bottom and has used it to sweep! He's held on to the kimura and is looking to finish here... will he get it... YES! Violanta taps out and the crowd goes crazy! Great finish!

Ladies and gentlemen, after 4:34 of round 2, we have a winner by way of Submission (Kimura). Wayne McGain!
