PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a middleweight MMA rules bout between Hank Houston (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Jimi Hendrix (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). I'm sure you'll be fascinated to know that I was talking to some pointless Z list celebrity before the fight and he thought that Jimi Hendrix was going to win. Let's see if he was right.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the middleweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 3 - 3 - 0, fighting out of Los Angeles, Hank Houston!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Los Angeles, Jimi Hendrix!

The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Hendrix chopped to the floor by a nice leg kick but he springs right back up before Houston can pounce on him.
Houston misses with a wild combination.
Houston scores with a leg kick.
Houston throws a series of punches but Hendrix avoids them all with ease.
Houston throws a right and a left that both miss.

Houston looks for a takedown. He's got it. We're now in half guard.
The crowd are loving this. Great action here.
Houston seems content to maintain position for now, rather than mounting any offense.

Hendrix is trying to escape back to his feet but Houston uses the scramble to pass into side control.

You can see the frustration on Hendrix's face, being in this tough position on the bottom.

The crowd are hurling abuse towards the fighters... You can hardly blame them though because there isn't a lot going on in the fight.

Well, the referee has seen enough. Neither fighter is active enough on the ground so he's stood them back up.
Houston avoids the clinch attempt nicely.
Houston tries a head kick but it misses.
Hendrix has his takedown stuffed
and Houston cracks him with a counter punch right on the button.

Houston closes the distance and gets a double leg, slamming Hendrix to the mat! Hendrix manages to get full guard.

The fighters are starting to perspire pretty heavily.
Houston postures up and scores with a shot to the body and a follow up elbow to the head.

The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
Houston seems to have a rather negative gameplan on the ground. He seems keen to just score the takedown and hold down Hendrix for as long as he can get away with.
There's a bit of a scramble here and now Hendrix is on top in guard.

Hendrix has his foot on Houston's thigh. He's trying to push off and get in position for a triangle, I think. Houston works his way back into a safe position though.

Houston decides he's had enough of playing guard and decides to stand. Come on Hendrix, up you get!

No joy there for Houston, who threw a few shots but didn't land.

We've seen a great period of action over the last minute or so - credit to both fighters for going all out!

Hendrix gets taken down but at least he's managed to land in guard.
Hendrix looking to sweep using the butterfly guard but Houston puts pay to that idea as he passes nicely into half guard.
Hendrix pushes Houston off looking to stand but Houston dives back in and keeps control.

The referee has ruled that neither fighter is active enough on the ground and has stood them back up.

Hendrix feints and then dives in with a takedown. That was a long way out but the feint bought him enough time to close the distance and complete the takedown. Now we'll play guard for a bit and see who can get the better of that position.

Houston has a loose triangle. He'll be looking to tighten that up but Hendrix can see exactly what he's planning and manages to posture up and free himself.

The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.

Houston postures up and cracks his opponent a couple of times before moving back into close ground control. Hendrix looks a forlorn figure.

The crowd applaud the fighters efforts here as the round comes to an end.

Houston jumps to side control looking for an arm triangle but Hendrix manages to avoid the submission attempt.

Well, the referee has seen enough. Neither fighter is active enough on the ground so he's stood them back up.

and Houston moves into the clinch.
Hank Houston has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Jimi Hendrix.
Come on Houston - let's have some action - none of this stalling nonsense.

Hank Houston overall seems to be getting the better of the ground position in the fight so far.

Houston is intent on slowing down the pace of the fight, simply looking to control.

Hendrix throws his legs up looking to secure a triangle. Oh, that looks pretty tight, I gotta say! Houston escapes and throws Hendrix's legs to the side, diving into side control!

Houston is looking to finish here, going for an Americana. Hendrix knows the correct defense though, so he's OK.

Houston wants to work for a kimura but he's foiled early by Hendrix, who protects the arm well.

Houston is maintaining the dominant position - no doubt Hendrix will start to get frustrated soon if he's not already.
Hendrix is moving his hips around well on the bottom and has managed to get back to half guard.
Hendrix is trying to maintain the position but Houston is very close to passing his half guard.
Houston is really dominating this fight. Is there anything that Hendrix can do to turn this around?

My god... these two guys really need to pick up the pace or everyone will leave to go get a beer.

A real slowdown in the pace of the fight for a moment, as Houston holds on and takes a little breather.

Hank Houston is fighting for a decision here - he's started to take the cautious approach.

A big thud reverberates around the arena there as Hendrix accidentally thumps the mat. Hopefully he's not broken his hand.

Well Houston has outscored his opponent in every aspect of the fight today. Only a scarily incompetent judge or two will keep him from a well deserved win... Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
