Coming up we have a welterweight MMA rules bout between Robby Foster (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Jake Bates (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Man, I cannot wait for this one!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the welterweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 0 - 2 - 0, fighting out of Los Angeles, Robby Foster!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 1 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Los Angeles, Jake Bates!
The judges for this bout are Timothy Bukovac, and Frank Antenori.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!

Bates closes the distance and pushes Foster back into the cage.
Foster looking to throw knees to the head but Bates is blocking nicely.
Foster wants to break the clinch but can't.

Foster gets the body lock takedown. After a quick scramble, Bates regains guard.
Foster being controlled here momentarily.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
Foster throwing strikes from guard but Bates blocks nicely.
Bates preventing the ground and pound from doing any damage.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Foster working some ground and pound from guard but it's not doing any damage.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Bates avoiding any damage from the ground and pound.
Foster has been looking to land a fair amount of strikes on the ground. He might be looking to soften his opponent up in order to work for a submission.
Bates is working from a closed guard but he's struggling to control his opponent.
Foster trying to land body shots but he keeps hitting the mat.

Bates throwing his legs up looking for a triangle.
Foster postures up to throw the ground and pound strikes but they don't connect.
Foster in full guard, throwing the ground and pound. No damage this time.
Foster wants to get up but he can't break Bates's closed guard. He needs to be careful trying to break the legs open, as he's open to submissions here.
Foster postures up in Bates's guard and throws a big left but Bates blocks it.
We may be looking at a referee standup if the pace doesn't pick up soon.
Foster missing there with some ground and pound from the guard.

The referee has stepped in and called for a break in the action. We'll restart on the feet.
Foster swings for the body but Bates moves out of range.
Bates paws at his opponent with the jab and then lunges in with a straight, right on the button.


It looks like Robby Foster has been cut.
Foster displays good takedown defense there as he swats away a double leg from Bates.
Foster tries to close the distance and clinch up but Bates swats him away and circles back towards the center.

That's two minutes gone in the round.
Bates fakes high and swings low for a body shot but Foster manages to avoid it.
Bates swats away the attempt to clinch by Foster.
Foster dives in for a single leg takedown but Bates sprawls and the fighters end up clinched against the cage.
Foster tries for a takedown. No joy.

Bates manages to break the clinch.
Bates connects with a high kick.

Bates darts in and clinches Foster up against the cage.

Foster pulls guard.
Bates stands up and looks to throw the legs aside to pass to side control. Foster swivels though and keeps the full guard.

Foster working from the bottom, still in full guard. He's managed to get a loose triangle. Bates doesn't seem to be doing much to defend here, obviously he feels comfortable in the position. Bates manages to throw the legs off his shoulder and he's back into guard - no problem.

That's three minutes gone in the round.
Bates cracks Foster with a solid left hand.

Foster escapes his hips to the side and looks to be working for an armbar. Bates gives him a little smile and shakes his head. No chance.

The fighters are starting to get a bit slippery now, which will make submissions a bit more difficult.
Foster is working an open guard so Bates takes the opportunity to get back to his feet.

Bates fakes with an overhand right and moves in to clinch with Foster, pushing him back against the cage.
Bates scores with a nice hook to the head.

Bates breaks from the clinch.
Foster tries a head kick but it misses.

That's four minutes gone in the round.

Bates closes the distance and looks for a trip takedown... aaaand he's got it - Bates lands in his opponent's guard.
Foster is breathing heavily.

Foster has managed to work for a loose triangle. I think Bates should be able to defend this one pretty easily though. Oh, Foster has tightened it up now! Bates should have reacted faster there - he's in big trouble and yes, he's tapped out! This one is all over!

Ladies and gentlemen, after 4:30 of round 1, we have a winner by way of Submission (Triangle). Robby Foster!
