PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a middleweight MMA rules bout between Craig Hofferman (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Felipe Garcio (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). The crowd seem to be enjoying Garcio's choice of entrance music: Strange Behaviour. Craig Hofferman is staring across the cage at his opponent, tweaking his nipples... Tweaking his own nipples that is.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the middleweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 2 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Helsinki, Craig Hofferman!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 3 - 2 - 0, fighting out of Tokyo, Felipe Garcio!
The judges for this bout are John Roberts, Joseph Jones and Russell Pearce.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!

Hofferman gets taken down but at least he's managed to land in guard.
Garcio pushes down on Hofferman's leg and manages to get into half guard.
Hofferman works his way to full guard. Good work.
Hofferman tries to land a sweep but no joy.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Hofferman keeping moving, preventing Garcio from controlling successfully.

Garcio is pushing down on Hofferman's leg trying to pass to half guard. Hofferman is fighting to maintain full guard but Garcio has managed to sneak the leg through.
Garcio wants to get back to his feet.
Hofferman is working for an escape here. He's hooked one of Garcio's legs and he's managed to sneak out and take Garcio's back!
Garcio is very frustrated here, being controlled quite effectively by Hofferman.

We've been hearing good reports from Hofferman's training camp. Apparently he has been rolling around with some good quality BJJ practitioners and has been sharpening his skills. Let's see if that has an impact on the fight today.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
Garcio is very frustrated here, being controlled quite effectively by Hofferman.

Garcio is being controlled on the ground here - he must escape this position otherwise surely the end is near.
Hofferman seems to have a rather negative gameplan on the ground. He seems keen to just score the takedown and hold down Garcio for as long as he can get away with.
Garcio looks to control his opponent's hands but he's not mananging it at the moment.

Hofferman just keeping the dominant position. He can't wait too long though, otherwise the referee will stand them back up.

Hofferman is working for the rear naked choke. He has one arm under the chin but Garcio has hold of the other arm. A bit of a stalemate here.

Hofferman controls the position.
Hofferman is working the ground and pound. Can Garcio escape?
Hofferman has the hooks sunk in and you can see the will to fight slowly draining out of Garcio's body.

The crowd are hurling abuse towards the fighters... You can hardly blame them though because there isn't a lot going on in the fight.
Garcio rolls and manages to get back to half guard. Nicely done.
Garcio pushes Hofferman off but Hofferman dives into side control.
The crowd thankful this round is nearly over.
Garcio tries to work a leg under to get back to half guard but Hofferman wriggles his own leg back out and remains in side control.
Hofferman wants to lay and pray for a moment but Garcio keeps working.

Hofferman is trying to get an arm triangle but Garcio is defending well.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Craig Hofferman dominated that round.
The fighters' corners scream their final instructions, as the referee calls time. Here we go, back to the action!


Garcio shoots and misses

and Hofferman decides to take the opportunity to score a takedown. He's landed in Garcio's guard.

Hofferman controlling from the guard. I say controlling but really, he's stalling.
Craig Hofferman overall seems to be getting the better of the ground position in the fight so far.

The referee has motioned to the fighters to stand back up. He just wasn't happy with the level of activity.

Neither fighter has done anything of merit for a good minute or two here and the crowd are not happy about it.
Garcio shoots in but doesn't get the takedown

and Hofferman counters with a shoot takedown into half guard.
Hofferman content to sit in half guard and control for a moment.
Hofferman is looking to advance position but Garcio won't allow it.
Hofferman moves into full mount! Garcio won't be happy about that!

That's three minutes gone in the round.
Hofferman won't let Garcio get back to his feet... He wants to keep the fight where it is for now.
Garcio wants to hold on but Hofferman pushes him away.
Garcio is breathing heavily.
Hofferman controlling from the full mount.
Garcio is looking to improve his position but Hofferman isn't that keen on the idea.

Hofferman working from mount. He moves in close and looks like he might be going for an arm triangle... He's hopped off to the side and he's transitioned into an Anaconda choke. Garcio turning a nasty shade of purple. He's refusing to tap but he's gone! He's out! The ref rips Hofferman off and cradles Garcio's limp body as Hofferman celebrates with his corner.

Ladies and gentlemen, after 4:21 of round 2, we have a winner by way of Submission (Anaconda Choke). Craig Hofferman!
The defeated Felipe Garcio had this to say: 'Aww man I had fun out there but I will come victorious next time you guys see me here in the octagon.'.
