PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a lightweight MMA rules bout between Paul Bright (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and jo fe (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). There are an array of beautiful celebrities at ringside tonight! I wonder if any of them paid for their tickets.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the lightweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 1 - 3 - 0, fighting out of Rio de Janeiro, Paul Bright!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Rio de Janeiro, jo fe!
The judges for this bout are Luis Engracia, Thiago Cunha and Emerson Jorge.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!

A momentary lapse in concentration from Bright enables fe to shoot in and score with a neat double leg. Bright manages to secure a closed guard as the fighters hit the mat.
fe is taking a break and basically stalling. The referee will not allow him to do that for long.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
fe stopping the sweep attempt from Bright.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
fe is stalling in the full guard.
It looks like fe might be adopting somewhat of a lay and pray gameplan here, which I'm sure won't go down too well with the paying fans in attendance... Or the ring announcers come to think of it.
The referee claps his hands together and tells the fighters to work.

That's one minute gone in the round.
Bright is working from a closed guard but he's struggling to control his opponent.

The referee has decided to stand the fighters back up, so we'll restart on the feet.

fe shoots in for a takedown! He's got it and he's managed to land in side control! That's better than fe was expecting from the takedown attempt, I'm sure!
fe trying to control the action but Bright is working from the bottom.
Bright knows he needs to get back to his feet asap. He's simply no match for fe on the ground.
fe tries to get to his feet but he's trapped momentarily.

That's two minutes gone in the round.
The referee asks fe politely if he wouldn't mind getting on with it and actually doing something. fe prefers to stall for the moment though.
fe wants to control but Bright is keeping him busy.
fe takes a little break here. Bright wants to take advantage but he is being controlled well.
The referee claps his hands together and tells the fighters to work.

That's three minutes gone in the round.
Bright sneaks a leg under to get back to half guard.

fe seems to be working for a kimura but Bright defends the submission attempt.

fe is trying to work for a kimura but Bright is defending well.
fe wants to stand up but Bright is controlling the position.

That's four minutes gone in the round.
There's not a lot going on here and the crowd are letting the fighters know they're not willing to tolerate a lack of action.
Bright is in trouble now - fe has advanced to mount!
The fighters are starting to get a bit slippery now, which will make submissions a bit more difficult.
Bright is squirming around, avoiding fe's attempts to control the action.
Boooooooooooooooooooo!!! God, this has been a terrible round. Come on you two, sort yourselves out!
fe working the ground and pound effectively.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

jo fe dominated that round.
The referee calls time. The cornermen exit stage left and we're back to business.



fe forces Bright back against the cage and clinches.

fe pulls guard effortlessly.
Bright throws a strike but fe rolls with it and manages to sweep. Now he's in guard on top.

Bright will need to keep those long limbs tucked in whilst he's on the ground, to prevent any submissions.
fe wants to control from the top but Bright keeps moving.
fe stands up and looks to throw the legs aside to pass to side control. Bright swivels though and keeps the full guard.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
fe is intent on slowing down the pace of the fight, simply looking to control.

That's one minute gone in the round.
fe wants to stand and escape but instead Bright has hit a sweep and he's now on top in guard.


fe is working actively off his back, looking to secure an arm or perhaps work for a triangle.
Bright throws an elbow that misses. fe uses the momentum to reverse the position. He's now in Bright's guard. Nice move by fe!

Bright is looking to sweep but instead, fe has passed into half guard.

That's two minutes gone in the round.
fe not doing much here.
Let's hope that fe has the urge to step up the pace any second now because for the last 15 or 20 seconds he's just been holding on tight.
Bright keeping his head moving to avoid the ground and pound.

That's three minutes gone in the round.
fe wants to lay and pray for a moment but Bright keeps working.
Bright really does look like a pencil wearing a pair of gloves. Let's hope he has a gameplan to suit that ridiculous body shape.
fe with a momentary lay and pray from half guard.
Bright has no desire to be mounted, so is trying to control. fe is working away from the top position though.
fe wants to control but Bright is keeping him busy.

That's four minutes gone in the round.
A few boos can be heard. I'm sure they will multiply if the fighters don't pick up the pace.
fe content to control rather than advance.

The referee has stepped in and called for a break in the action. We'll restart on the feet.

fe feints and then dives in with a takedown. That was a long way out but the feint bought him enough time to close the distance and complete the takedown. Now we'll play guard for a bit and see who can get the better of that position.
jo fe has got the better of the ground game so far.
fe wants to control from the top but Bright keeps moving.
Boooooooooooooooooooo!!! God, this has been a terrible round. Come on you two, sort yourselves out!
fe slows down the pace of the fight for a moment. He'll need to remain active if he doesn't want to see the fight stood back up.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

jo fe showed his class in that round. I'd imagine he'll take it on all the scorecards.
The corners get their ten second warning. Both fighters stand from their stools and stare eachother down, ready to get back to the action. And we move into the final round!


fe swinging wildly here.
fe has been the more effective fighter overall so far.
Bright avoids a low kick by using good footwork.

fe shoots in for a takedown and gets it.
fe passes the guard and advances to mount!

fe wants to finish this one by submission but Bright is holding onto his waist, trying to prevent any attacks from fe.
Bright tries to get back to half guard but can't.

A lull in the action here being met with boos from the crowd.
Bright tries to improve his position but instead fe has taken his back!
fe is controlling his opponent, waiting for an opportunity to finish.

fe is working the back position looking for the choke. Oh, he's slid into an armbar! Beautiful transition and Bright taps out! Fantastic Jiu Jitsu from fe.
