Coming up we have a welterweight MMA rules bout between John Skantze Jr (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Theo Maples (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Rumors backstage are that the fighters have been paid to keep it standing but we know that would never happen in MMA!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the welterweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 23 - 24 - 0, fighting out of Montreal, John Skantze Jr!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 6 - 3 - 0, fighting out of Montreal, Theo Maples!
The judges for this bout are William Peck, Steve Smith and Alec Ball.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Skantze Jr takes a jab right on the kisser.
Skantze Jr keeping his hands up high there, blocking the jab from Maples.
Skantze Jr throws a jab when Maples was well out of range.
Sloppy strikes from Skantze Jr. Those never looked like landing.
The fighters circling - Skantze Jr throws out the jab but it was never going to land.

Maples looking for a takedown here - he's got it.
Maples is intent on slowing down the pace of the fight, simply looking to control.

Skantze Jr had isolated an arm as going for a kimura. Maples defends it easily.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Maples works a leg free and moves into half guard.
Still in half guard, Maples seems content to control.
It looks like Maples might be adopting somewhat of a lay and pray gameplan here, which I'm sure won't go down too well with the paying fans in attendance... Or the ring announcers come to think of it.

That's one minute gone in the round.
Maples works his way into full mount!
Skantze Jr tries to hold on but Maples pushes him away.
Skantze Jr is working to get back to half guard.
Skantze Jr gets back to half guard.
The referee calls for the fighters to work.

Maples is working for a kimura but Skantze Jr is defending it quite comfortably.
Maples lands strikes from half guard.

That's two minutes gone in the round.
Skantze Jr on the receiving end of some nice ground and pound.
Maples takes a deep breath and rests his weight momentarily on top of his opponent, to control the position.

Skantze Jr looking for a kimura from the bottom but Maples passes into side control!

Maples is looking to finish here, going for an Americana. Skantze Jr knows the correct defense though, so he's OK.
Maples cracks Skantze Jr with a big right hand but Skantze Jr just smiles back at him and invites him to have another go.
Skantze Jr takes an elbow right on the bridge of the nose and winces in pain.

That's three minutes gone in the round.
Skantze Jr on the wrong end of some ground and pound.
Maples scoring with punches and elbows.
Maples wants to control but Skantze Jr is keeping him busy.
Skantze Jr is trying to buck Maples off.
Maples cracks Skantze Jr with an elbow. That is naaassty.
Skantze Jr takes a big shot right to the temple there but he's taken it well.
Maples working the head with strikes.
Maples working the ground and pound.
Maples moving around in side mount but really he's just happy to control for now.
Maples trying to control the action but Skantze Jr is working from the bottom.

That's four minutes gone in the round.
Skantze Jr gives up the full mount - oops, sloppy defensive grappling there!
Maples landing punches.
Maples lands with some vicious ground and pound - can Skantze Jr hang on?
Maples cracks Skantze Jr with a nasty head shot there - the crowd let out an audible gasp there, as the noise reverberated around the arena.
We've seen a great period of action over the last minute or so - credit to both fighters for going all out!
Maples lands a couple of good shots and Skantze Jr has given up his back, trying to escape the position!

Maples is working for the choke. He's slipped one arm under the chin. Skantze Jr has to defend the other arm for all he's worth... but Maples has managed to get that arm free too and he's tightening the choke! Skantze Jr taps out and looks absolutely disgusted with himself. Maples doesn't care though - he's delighted!

Ladies and gentlemen, after 4:56 of round 1, we have a winner by way of Submission (RNC). Theo Maples!
Our winner, Theo Maples, made sure he spent some time buttering up the crowd during his post fight interview, which will no doubt bring him a few more fans.
