The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Penn shoots for a takedown but Detroit saw that one coming a mile off and avoided it easily.
Detroit throws a two punch combo that lands nicely.
A leg kick checked by Detroit.
Left hook, right uppercut from Penn.
Penn will need to tighten up his combinations if he doesn't want to gas himself out, swinging at thin air.
Detroit drops Penn with a left right combo! Detroit follows him down to the ground into side control.

Penn is rocked!
This has been an exciting period of action!

Detroit stands up.
Penn misses with a body kick.
Penn shoots in for a takedown - he's clinched up with Detroit but Detroit pushes him off and we're back to square one.
Penn shoots in but no luck this time.
Max Detroit has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Steel Penn.

Detroit closes the distance and presses his opponent up against the cage.
Penn misses with a hook from the clinch.
Penn jumps guard but Detroit stands there with Penn around his waist. Penn gives up and drops back to his feet. We remain in the clinch.
Penn is trying desperately to land a takedown but Detroit is having absolutely none of it. This is turning into a bit of a nightmare for Penn.
Detroit stops a takedown attempt from Penn.

Detroit pushes off and circles away, back to the middle of the mat.
Detroit will need to close the distance a bit before he attacks - that leg kick was thrown from too far away.
Penn on the wrong end of a kick to the body.

Detroit swings away but doesn't land with a series of punches.

Penn missing with a left hand there. Detroit was out of range so wasted energy throwing that one.
Detroit throws a wild body kick that Penn sees coming a mile off.
A head kick misses from Detroit.

Detroit clinches up against the cage.

Detroit breaks the clinch and we're back to striking at distance.
Detroit throws a combination but it was largely blocked by Penn.
Detroit is looking to slow Penn down with leg kicks.
Detroit lands a leg kick. The shin dug right into the meat of the thigh.

Detroit has Penn up against the cage in a clinch.

Detroit manages to break the clinch.

Detroit drives through and clinches with Penn against the cage.
Penn tries to pull guard but Detroit holds him up against the cage and eventually Penn drops back down to his feet.
Penn jumps guard but Detroit stands there with Penn around his waist. Penn gives up and drops back to his feet. We remain in the clinch.

Detroit lands a glancing blow to the side of Penn's head.
This is a great period of action - very entertaining stuff!
Detroit throws a shot to the body.
Penn is a painfully thin specimen of a man. You do wonder whether a good body kick would snap him clean in two.

Detroit breaks the clinch and we're back to striking at distance.

That's two minutes gone in the round.
Detroit lands a head kick that stumbles Penn and the fighters go to the mat.

It looks like Steel Penn has been cut.

Detroit stands and steps away. Penn gets to his feet too and we're back to the striking game.
Detroit lands a pitter patter jab to the forehead of his opponent.
Detroit connects with a superb combination that knocks Penn out cold! The referee charges across the mat and tackles Detroit before he can land any more shots to the unconscious Penn!
