PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a welterweight MMA rules bout between Jack Trinity (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Timir Almaev (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Timir Almaev told me before the fight that he's been watching a lot of DVDs so let's see if that helps him in this one! I can't wait to find out!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the welterweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 3 - 1 - 0, fighting out of The Island, Jack Trinity!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 3 - 1 - 0, fighting out of The Island, Timir Almaev!
The judges for this bout are Winston Alpacca, David Hoff and Santiago Holmes.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!

Trinity changes levels and drives through with a really nice takedown into side control. Almaev looks really pissed at himself for not defending that better.
Almaev is trying to control Trinity's posture but Trinity avoids it.
Almaev is trying to get back to half guard. He's pushing on Trinity's leg. He's managed it. Nice work.
Almaev is trying to stand.
Almaev is looking for a sweep. Trinity is wise to his cunning plan and keeps the top position.
Almaev regains full guard, whilst avoiding punches from Trinity.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
Trinity works over Almaev with some ground and pound from guard.
We've been hearing that Trinity has been drilling a lot of ground and pound in training, so let's see if he get the finish.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.

Almaev controls Trinity momentarily but Trinity frees himself.
Trinity stays in close to Almaev's body and controls the position.
Trinity wants to control from the top but Almaev keeps moving.
The referee wants the fighters to be more active or he's going to reset them on the feet.
Trinity slows down the pace of the fight for a moment. He'll need to remain active if he doesn't want to see the fight stood back up.

The referee has decided to stand the fighters back up, so we'll restart on the feet.

Excellent takedown into side control there by Trinity.
Almaev felt the need to train up his defensive grappling in the buildup to the fight. Presumably he was expecting to be in a difficult position like this, so let's see if he can get out of it.

Almaev is not content to let Trinity control the position.
Almaev can't do much from the bottom here.
Almaev tries to escape but Trinity is in control.

What's Almaev going to do here then? He's in a bit of a pickle.
Trinity misses with a strike but at least he's keeping busy, looking to cause some damage - that will still help him when it comes to the judges scorecards.

Almaev seems a little lost for a moment, as Trinity dominates the positioning.
Trinity wants to lay and pray for a moment but Almaev keeps working.

The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Almaev can't do much from the bottom here.

There's not a lot going on here and the crowd are letting the fighters know they're not willing to tolerate a lack of action.

Almaev is trying to control Trinity's posture but Trinity avoids it.

Trinity tries for a kimura but Almaev is defending well.
Trinity advances nicely into full mount.
Trinity tucks in and makes sure he doesn't lose the dominant position.
Boooooooooooooooooooo!!! God, this has been a terrible round. Come on you two, sort yourselves out!

Trinity gets caught flat footed, as Almaev shoots in with a quick takedown into guard.

Trinity is working the butterfly guard. He manages to land a nice scissor sweep and is now in half guard on the top. Nice move.

Jack Trinity overall seems to be getting the better of the ground position in the fight so far.
