PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a bantamweight MMA rules bout between Nam Le (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Pawel Aleksewicz (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). The key to victory for Nam Le has got to be keeping the fight on the feet.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the bantamweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 1 - 0 - 0, fighting out of London, Nam Le!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 4 - 6 - 0, fighting out of London, Pawel Aleksewicz!
The judges for this bout are James Atkins, Chris Edwards and Daniel Bishop.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
The fighters circle momentarily. Le darts into range and connects with a nice straight punch.
Le throws a low kick but his opponent is out of range.
Aleksewicz slips under a jab from Le.
Aleksewicz tries to close the distance and clinch up against the cage but Le paws at him with a jab and circles away.
Le throws a leg kick but Aleksewicz sees it coming and moves out of range.
Le lands a nice leg kick that just misses Aleksewicz's sensitive parts.
Le throws a front kick aimed at Aleksewicz's knee but Aleksewicz avoids it well.
Le swings for the body but Aleksewicz moves out of range.
Le misses the shot to the body.
Le scores with a jab to the head.

Aleksewicz drives through with a really nice takedown into side control.
Aleksewicz looking to punish the body of his opponent here but Le is avoiding damage well.
Le knows he needs to get back to his feet asap. He's simply no match for Aleksewicz on the ground.

This has been an exciting period of action!

Le really trying hard to get back to half guard here.
Aleksewicz avoids the attempt from Le to control.
Aleksewicz fakes a shot to the body and cracks his opponent in the head. Nice ground and pound there!
Le is in all sorts of trouble here.

Let's hope that Aleksewicz has the urge to step up the pace any second now because for the last 15 or 20 seconds he's just been holding on tight.

The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Aleksewicz cracks Le with a nasty head shot there - the crowd let out an audible gasp there, as the noise reverberated around the arena.

Le tries to reverse the position but Aleksewicz maintains control.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.

Aleksewicz has control of Le's right arm, working for a kimura. It's a bit of a token attempt though and Le regains control of the situation pretty easily.

Aleksewicz lands with some vicious ground and pound - can Le hang on?
Aleksewicz tucks in and makes sure he doesn't lose the dominant position.
Aleksewicz lands an elbow that was bordering on illegal but the referee lets it go with a warning.

Aleksewicz has hold of Le's left arm, perhaps looking for a submission. The two fighters tussle over control of the isolated limb and Le manages to get his arm back to his side and away from danger.
Le looks to be in better condition than last time we saw him fight. Obviously he's been working hard on his cardio.
Le tries to hold on but Aleksewicz pushes him away.

Le is in a horrible position here. Aleksewicz smacks him with another shot as he tries to escape the position.
Wooooo! Give it up for these two warriors! They are putting on a show!

Pawel Aleksewicz dominated that round.
That's the end of the interval. I'm sure that seemed a lot quicker than a minute for our two fighters! Back to the action.


Le throws a hook but Aleksewicz avoids it easily.
Le lands a nice leg kick that just misses Aleksewicz's sensitive parts.
Aleksewicz is a painfully thin specimen of a man. You do wonder whether a good body kick would snap him clean in two.

Pawel Aleksewicz is looking to throw some combinations by the looks of things.
Le tries a low kick but Aleksewicz avoids it.
Le throws a head kick that misses.
Le misses with a low kick.
Le lands a high kick!
Nam Le seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.
Aleksewicz dives in for a single leg takedown but Le sprawls and the fighters end up clinched against the cage.
Le stalling here - the referee won't stand for too much of that.

We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Aleksewicz goes for a takedown in the clinch but Le prevents it.

Le breaks the clinch and we return to the middle of the mat.
Le misses with a low kick as Aleksewicz jumps back.
Le connects with an inside leg kick.
Le tries a head kick but it misses.

Aleksewicz will have to do better than that with his takedown attempts.
Nam Le has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Pawel Aleksewicz.

Aleksewicz darts in and lands a nice takedown into half guard.
The referee calls for the fighters to work.
Le wants to get back to full guard.

Aleksewicz tries to land with a swinging hook to the body but Le was well out of range. Poor timing from Aleksewicz.
Aleksewicz misses with a takedown attempt. He shot from a bit too far out.

Nam Le is winning the standup battle so far.
Le dances in quickly and lands a nice inside leg kick on Aleksewicz. That did some damage!

Aleksewicz shoots in from a long way out. He's driving through with the takedown attempt and he eventually gets it, landing in Le's guard.

Le pulls out of a head kick attempt.
Aleksewicz tries to score with an inside leg kick but telegraphs it and Le is able to avoid easily.

Le throws the left hand but Aleksewicz avoids the punch easily.
Le slaps away a takedown attempt from Aleksewicz, before circling back to the center of the mat.
Aleksewicz has been the more effective fighter overall so far.
Le throws a sloppy head kick and Aleksewicz moves out of range easily.
Aleksewicz tries to close the distance and clinch but Le swats him to one side with an open hand palm strike and circles away.
Le just misses with a punch to the body.
Aleksewicz walks straight into an uppercut. Luckily it didn't land flush.
This is a great period of action - very entertaining stuff!
Le throws a low kick but it's checked well by Aleksewicz.
Le lunges at Aleksewicz with a hook that half lands and is half blocked by Aleksewicz's hand.
Le checks a leg kick.
Le misses with a low kick as Aleksewicz jumps back.

Aleksewicz gets a double leg takedown into Le's guard.
Both fighters are absolutely exhausted here.
Aleksewicz's corner is telling him to maintain position.
Le might be looking to lock onto one of his opponent's long limbs for a submission, whilst we're on the ground.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Nam Le dominated that second round.
The minute break is over - no more time for sponges and pep talks - back to the action! This is the final round!


Aleksewicz shoots in for a takedown but Le shows good takedown defense.

Excellent takedown into side control there by Aleksewicz.

Aleksewicz decides to stand back up. Aleksewicz steps back and let's Le get back to his feet.
Le throws a nice head kick!
Le feints with a shoulder and throws a nice leg kick to Aleksewicz's calf.
Aleksewicz takes a head kick and shrugs it off.
Le scores with a shot to the body.
Le throws a leg kick but he was too far away and it doesn't land.

Aleksewicz throws the overhand right but ducks down into a quick takedown attempt. Le was covering up waiting for the punch and Aleksewicz finishes the takedown easily into guard.
This is a great period of action - very entertaining stuff!

Aleksewicz decides he's had enough of playing guard and decides to stand. Come on Le, up you get!
Both fighters are breathing heavily.

Le tries to work over Aleksewicz's front leg with a kick but Aleksewicz checks it.
Le throws a sloppy head kick and Aleksewicz moves out of range easily.
Aleksewicz misses with a takedown attempt - Le sprawls well and throws a nice strike on the way out which just misses.
Le throws a chopping leg kick but Aleksewicz manages to avoid taking any serious damage.
Aleksewicz changes levels and looks for a double leg takedown. Le tries to avoid it but Aleksewicz manages to keep hold of a leg and drag Le to the ground. Le escapes though and pops straight back up to his feet.
Nam Le has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Pawel Aleksewicz.
Aleksewicz throws a body punch but Le moves out of range.
Aleksewicz looks for a takedown but Le sprawls well.

Aleksewicz darts in and lands a nice takedown into half guard.
Le is trying to stand.

Le wants to control but Aleksewicz is keeping busy and won't allow it.
Le tries to roll over but Aleksewicz keeps him under control.
Aleksewicz is keeping good posture, landing some ground and pound.

Aleksewicz looking for a kimura but he'll have to free his other leg if he wants to finish that. Perhaps he's just using it as a distraction technique.
Neither fighter is being very active at the moment, with Aleksewicz in particular looking to stall.

Aleksewicz thows a huge punch but Le dodges it nicely.
Pawel Aleksewicz has got the better of the ground game so far.

Aleksewicz decides to stand up and try his luck on the feet.
A head kick misses from Le.
Le lands a pitter patter jab to the forehead of his opponent.
Nice takedown defense from Le. No joy for Aleksewicz on that attempt.
Le takes a swing at Aleksewicz's ribcage but misses.
Aleksewicz fails to land the takedown.

Le tries to land a leg kick but Aleksewicz saw it coming and moves away.
Le throws a shot from downtown. Aleksewicz moves away and avoids it.
Aleksewicz checks a low kick. Bone on bone - not my idea of a good time.

Aleksewicz shoots in and gets a takedown into half guard. Aleksewicz showed some decent athleticism there.
Aleksewicz lands with a punch from half guard.
Le tries to push off, looking to stand up, but Aleksewicz manages to move to mount!
Aleksewicz lands a shot to the body, followed up by a shot to the exposed head of his trapped opponent.

And that's the end of the fight!
Pawel Aleksewicz comfortably won the final round on my scorecard.
I think Aleksewicz has won this one but let's see whether the judges agree with me. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
