PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a welterweight MMA rules bout between Humberto Cooke (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and John Frink (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). I can't wait for this one - let's get the fighter introductions out of the way and get this one started!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the welterweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 1 - 1 - 0, fighting out of Las Vegas, Humberto Cooke!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Las Vegas, John Frink!
The judges for this bout are Tiny Johnson, Robert Twigg and Wesley Smith.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Cooke swats away the attempt to clinch by Frink.

Frink shoots in for a takedown and gets it. Let's see what he's got on the mat.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
Cooke wants to sweep here but Frink controlling him for the moment.
Frink slows down the pace of the fight for a moment. He'll need to remain active if he doesn't want to see the fight stood back up.
Cooke might be looking to lock onto one of his opponent's long limbs for a submission, whilst we're on the ground.
Frink trying to control the position from guard on top but Cooke is wriggling around, looking for whatever he can.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Frink is taking a break and basically stalling. The referee will not allow him to do that for long.
Cooke is trying to stand up but he's not managed so far.

That's one minute gone in the round.
Frink engaging in some classic timewasting tactics.
The referee wants the fighters to be more active or he's going to reset them on the feet.
Frink trying to pass the guard but can't manage it just yet.

The referee has decided to stand the fighters back up, so we'll restart on the feet.

Frink closes the distance and after a bit of a stuggle, scores a takedown into Cooke's guard.
Cooke trying to keep a closed guard but Frink is proving a slippery customer.
Frink advances to half guard.

That's two minutes gone in the round.
Cooke wants to control but Frink is keeping busy.
Cooke pushes Frink off looking to stand but Frink dives back in and keeps control.
Frink looks over to his corner - he wants some instructions but his corner are not responding.
Frink wants to pass to mount but Cooke is defending the position.
If this pace continues, the referee will definitely step in and force a standup.

Frink decides to stand up.

That's three minutes gone in the round.

Frink gets the takedown into side control.
Frink controlling from side mount.
Cooke is looking to reverse the position.
Frink tries to advance to mount but Cooke denies him.

Frink tries for an arm triangle. That looks pretty tight to me. Is this one over!?! Possibly, maybe, no Frink has let go of the choke. Obviously it wasn't as tight as we thought!

Frink decides to take the fight back to the feet.

That's four minutes gone in the round.
Frink lands with a nice body punch.

Frink looking to score a takedown here. Cooke is defending well but Frink drives through and ends up in Cooke's guard.
Cooke is breathing heavily.
Frink trying to pass the guard but can't manage it just yet.
Boooooooooooooooooooo!!! God, this has been a terrible round. Come on you two, sort yourselves out!
Cooke is working from a closed guard but he's struggling to control his opponent.
Frink stands up and looks to throw the legs aside to pass to side control. Cooke swivels though and keeps the full guard.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

John Frink dominated that round.
The referee calls time. The cornermen exit stage left and we're back to business.


Danga de danga de dang - Frink scores with a four punch combination!

Frink shoots in and scores a nice double leg takedown into half guard.
Cooke trying to control but Frink postures up.
Frink wants to lay and pray for a moment but Cooke keeps working.
Cooke could do with losing a few pounds - he looks very soft around the mid section, to put it politely.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Cooke is looking to regain full guard. Not this time though.
Frink content to sit in half guard and control for a moment.

That's one minute gone in the round.
Frink wants to pass the guard but Cooke is defending well.
Cooke wants to improve his position but Frink is controlling well.

The ref stands the fighters back up due to a lack of activity.
Cooke fails to land the takedown.

That's two minutes gone in the round.
Neither fighter has done anything of merit for a good minute or two here and the crowd are not happy about it.
Frink throws a nice looking combination but Cooke bobs and weaves to avoid any damage.
Frink looks to score with a combo but nothing lands.

Frink closes the distance and after a bit of a stuggle, scores a takedown into Cooke's guard.
Frink is stalling in the full guard.
Cooke working a defensive guard here.
Both fighters are absolutely exhausted here.
Frink looking to pass the guard.

That's three minutes gone in the round.
Frink sitting in guard, not really doing much.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.

Cooke is working an open guard so Frink takes the opportunity to get back to his feet.

Frink shoots in for a takedown from distance. He catches Cooke napping and manages to drive through into side control!

Frink stands up.
Cooke shoots in for a takedown. "I don't think so" says Frink as he avoids it easily.

That's four minutes gone in the round.

Frink is looking for a takedown here. He's shot in and has managed to get it, finishing up in Cooke's half guard.
John Frink has got the better of the ground game so far.
Frink perhaps working for something from half guard, or maybe not. It looks like he's just sitting there.
Cooke is in trouble now - Frink has advanced to mount!

Frink is standing up, even though he is in mount.
Cooke tries for a takedown but Frink sees it coming a mile off and avoids it easily.
That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Humberto Cooke. That's going to take a lot out of him.
The crowd thankful this round is nearly over.

Cooke is rocked!

Frink shoots in for a takedown. He's got it... He's hoisted his opponent over his head and is carrying him over to the other end of the mat. The crowd roars in approval and Frink slams his opponent to the mat. OH, that is naaaaaasty! He's out! Frink lands a punch to his unconscious victim for good measure before the ref has time to call the fight.

Ladies and gentlemen, after 4:59 of round 2, we have a winner by way of KO (Slam). John Frink!
A very excited looking John Frink rambled incoherently for about 5 minutes post fight about how awesome he is. It was kinda funny for a while but then everyone got annoyed.
