PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a light heavyweight MMA rules bout between Kevin Vaughan (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Joshua McPhearson (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). McPhearson has a niggling injury. He would have liked to come in 100% fit but that's not always possible. Joshua McPhearson is the more experienced fighter, so let's see if that makes a difference tonight.

The judges for this bout are Alec Ball, Elvis Blanc and Robert Douchet.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
McPhearson misses with a right hand

and Vaughan counters by moving into the clinch.

Vaughan breaks the clinch and we return to the middle of the mat.

Vaughan darts in and lands a nice takedown into half guard.
Vaughan not throwing his punches with enough precision this time.

Vaughan is working for a submission of some sort.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.

Vaughan decides he's had enough of the ground and stands up.

Vaughan stands and steps away. McPhearson gets to his feet too and we're back to the striking game.

Vaughan fakes a strike and closes the distance, dragging McPhearson to the ground. Vaughan is now in McPhearson's guard.

Vaughan decides to stand up, so the ref orders McPhearson to his feet.
Vaughan really does look like a pencil wearing a pair of gloves. Let's hope he has a gameplan to suit that ridiculous body shape.

Vaughan throws a loose over hand right and dives in with a double leg takedown. McPhearson tries to sprawl but it's too late and the fighters hit the mat. Vaughan is in McPhearson's guard.
McPhearson seems to have recovered his senses.

Vaughan gets to his feet - McPhearson follows without any prompting.

Vaughan closes the distance, clinches up and gets a nice trip takedown into side control. Very smooth.
We could do with one of the fighters taking the initiative a bit more on the ground - they're both waiting to capitalize on a mistake.

Vaughan stands up and beckons McPhearson to his feet.

Vaughan changes levels and drives through with a really nice takedown into side control. McPhearson looks really pissed at himself for not defending that better.
Vaughan connects with a decent looking elbow from side control that caused McPhearson some visible discomfort.

The crowd are getting on the fighters' backs, as the pace has dropped off in the last minute or so.

Vaughan postures up to throw the ground and pound strikes but they don't connect.
The crowd thankful this round is nearly over.

The fighters are starting to perspire pretty heavily.
Vaughan has controlled the position for a good 20 seconds, which will no doubt be starting to frustrate his opponent.

There's not a lot going on here and the crowd are letting the fighters know they're not willing to tolerate a lack of action.

Vaughan is still in mount, landing shots to his trapped opponent. McPhearson can't stay in a position like this for much longer.

McPhearson is bucking up trying to escape but Vaughan cracks him with another couple of good strikes.
McPhearson stops Vaughan from taking his back. Still, being mounted isn't any better.

Vaughan pausing momentarily but resumes with a couple of decent strikes that do a bit of damage.
McPhearson throwing punches from his back but nothing is landing.
Vaughan can't quite control the action as he would like just now, as McPhearson is looking to escape.
The crowd thankful this round is nearly over.

Well Vaughan has outscored his opponent in every aspect of the fight today. Only a scarily incompetent judge or two will keep him from a well deserved win... Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
