PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a bantamweight MMA rules bout between Eli Armis (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Konrad Kurze (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Chooooooooon! I think Armis might be my favorite fighter, now he's come out to Mortal Kombat Theme. Eli Armis has the better chin. Will he look to stand and bang today?

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 5 rounds, in the bantamweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 24 - 8 - 2, fighting out of Los Angeles, Eli Armis!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 36 - 21 - 0, fighting out of Tokyo, Konrad Kurze!
The judges for this bout are Steven Brown, Donald Grub and Andrew Berry.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!

Armis fakes an overhand right and shoots for a takedown. Kurze sprawls well initially but Armis persists and gets the takedown into half guard.
Kurze is trying to maintain the position but Armis is very close to passing his half guard.
Armis wants to pass to mount but Kurze is defending the position.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
Armis wants to lay and pray for a moment but Kurze keeps working.

Kurze looking for submissions from an awkward position here.
Armis trying to pass the guard but Kurze defending well.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Kurze wants to control but Armis is keeping busy.
Kurze might have to switch it up a bit here because his efforts to control Armis haven't been going to plan, at least at the current moment in time.

Kurze is looking to sinch up a guillotine here but Armis pulls his head out easily.

Armis trying to mount his opponent but Kurze defends it.
We've been hearing that Armis has been drilling a lot of ground and pound in training, so let's see if he get the finish.
Kurze is doing well to avoid being mounted. He's controlling the position at the moment.
Armis wants to free his trapped foot but Kurze is holding on for dear life with his legs.
Armis works his way into side control.
Armis trying to control the position but Kurze is working away.
You can see the frustration on Kurze's face, being in this tough position on the bottom.

That's two minutes gone in the round.
My god... these two guys really need to pick up the pace or everyone will leave to go get a beer.

Armis tries for a kimura. Not really close to a finish though.
The fighters are starting to perspire pretty heavily.
Armis tries to move to mount but Kurze blocks the move with his legs.
Armis wants to control for a moment but Kurze uses the opportunity to move back to half guard.
Kurze is positioning himself well to prevent Armis advancing to mount.

Kurze looking for submissions from an awkward position here.

Armis is looking for a kimura. It's going to be difficult to finish that from half guard though and Kurze defends it well.
Kurze gets full guard.
Armis advances to half guard.
Kurze is looking for a sweep. Armis is wise to his cunning plan and keeps the top position.
Armis frees up his trapped foot and advances to mount.

Armis has control of Kurze's right arm, working for a kimura. It's a bit of a token attempt though and Kurze regains control of the situation pretty easily.
Armis scores with a couple of good head shots there.

That's four minutes gone in the round.

Armis goes for an armbar but he's fallen flat on his backside there and now Kurze is on top in guard.
Kurze wants to control from the top but Armis keeps moving.
Armis looking for a sweep. Not yet Armis, not yet.
Armis controls Kurze momentarily but Kurze frees himself.
Kurze wants to control from the top but Armis keeps moving.
Boooooooooooooooooooo!!! God, this has been a terrible round. Come on you two, sort yourselves out!
Kurze postures up and lands some nice ground and pound.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Eli Armis dominated that round.
The referee calls time. The cornermen exit stage left and we're back to business.


Kurze looks to score with a jab to the body but Armis is just out of range.
Kurze takes a swing at Armis's ribcage but misses.
Armis throws a shot from downtown. Kurze moves away and avoids it.

Armis feints and as Kurze raises his hands in defense, Armis changes levels and drives through with a takedown into guard.
Kurze trying to keep a closed guard but Armis is proving a slippery customer.
Eli Armis overall seems to be getting the better of the ground position in the fight so far.
Kurze keeping moving, preventing Armis from controlling successfully.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Kurze looking to sweep here. No luck so far.

Kurze working for submissions but it's allowed Armis to get to half guard.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Armis looking to pass the half guard. Not this time.

Armis is working for submissions here but there's nothing on.
Armis seems content to maintain position for now, rather than mounting any offense.
Armis not landing any meaningful shots this time.
Armis is stalling here. Kurze is in no mood to hang around though. He's locked up a kimura from the bottom! Armis seems to be keeping calm but he's forced to roll out of the hold and Kurze has ended up in side control on the top. Nice work.
Armis is really dominating this fight. Is there anything that Kurze can do to turn this around?
Kurze tries to score with some ground and pound. Armis controls his posture well this time though and the shots don't do any damage.

Armis is looking for a sweep.
Armis manages to get one leg in to regain half guard.
Kurze thows a wild elbow that connects with the canvas.
Kurze wants to control but Armis is keeping him busy.
Kurze missing with some ground and pound from the half guard.
Armis is trying to get back to full guard.
Armis avoiding damage under a succession of punches from Kurze.
Kurze is trying to control. Armis wants to improve his position but can't escape this time.
Kurze prevents Armis from improving his position.
Kurze works his way into full mount!

Armis taking shots to the head.
Armis regains half guard.
Armis is looking for a sweep. Kurze is wise to his cunning plan and keeps the top position.
Armis trying to hold on to Kurze's head to control him but Kurze postures up.
Armis holds on for dear life, maintaining half guard for now.
Kurze trying to control the action but Armis is working from the bottom.

Kurze has hold of the far side arm. He's working for the Kimura, can Armis defend it? Kurze steps over the head and cranks it - Armis is tapping out! That was textbook stuff right there - nice submission victory for Kurze!

Ladies and gentlemen, after 4:55 of round 2, we have a winner by way of Submission (Kimura). Konrad Kurze!
An out of breath and clearly excited Konrad Kurze thanked Hellbent for their help and support (and free stuff they sent him).
