PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a featherweight MMA rules bout between Joe Calzaghe (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Helmut Doerner (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Doerner has chosen Balls to the Wall by Accept as his entrance music. Well, the cameraman is lingering on a pretty young lady for a bit too long there. Keep your eyes on the prize buddy or you'll miss the fighter intros!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the featherweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 30 - 28 - 1, fighting out of Montreal, Joe Calzaghe!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 16 - 22 - 0, fighting out of St Petersburg, Helmut Doerner!
The judges for this bout are Frank Dennis, Alan Glass and George Francis.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Calzaghe tries to clinch but Doerner is having none of it.
Calzaghe lands with a nice combination. Doerner backs away looking to recover.

Calzaghe darts in and clinches Doerner up against the cage.
Doerner tries for a takedown. No joy.
Calzaghe dodges an elbow strike from Doerner.
Doerner lands with a quick shot inside that doesn't really do much damage.
Calzaghe blocks a knee to the body. He'll have a nicely bruised forearm in the morning.
Doerner misses with a hook to the ribs.
A head punch blocked on the inside by Calzaghe.
Calzaghe is trying to work for a single leg takedown but Doerner pulls him back up using the underhooks.

Calzaghe jumps into guard, dragging Doerner to the mat.
Doerner throws a big elbow that misses.
Doerner looking to control the position here, rather than advance.
Calzaghe bucks up whilst keeping hold of a body lock, managing to reverse the position. Now he's in top in Doerner's guard.

The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.

Doerner has his foot on Calzaghe's thigh. He's trying to push off and get in position for a triangle, I think. Calzaghe works his way back into a safe position though.

Calzaghe got a little sloppy there for a moment and Doerner has worked his way into a loose triangle - can he finish it?! No, Calzaghe has managed to get both his arms back between Doerner's legs - danger averted.
Hammerfist, elbow! yells Calzaghe's corner. There ya go! There ya go!

A few boos can be heard. I'm sure they will multiply if the fighters don't pick up the pace.

Calzaghe stuffs a takedown. It's all about dictating where the fight takes place and Calzaghe wants it to stay on the feet.
Doerner fakes high and swings low for a body shot but Calzaghe manages to avoid it.
