Coming up we have a light heavyweight MMA rules bout between Ross Massey (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Ben Ballard (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). These two fighters really are very evenly matched on the feet - it will be fascinating to see who can assert themselves in that aspect of the fight.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the light heavyweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 4 - 2 - 0, fighting out of Tokyo, Ross Massey!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 5 - 0 - 0, fighting out of St Petersburg, Ben Ballard!
The judges for this bout are Cecil Peabody, Chris Downing and Alan Glass.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!

Ballard darts in and clinches Massey up against the cage.
Ballard tries to pull guard but can't drag his opponent to the mat. Massey just stands there and leans against the cage.
Ballard changes levels and goes for a takedown here. Massey fights it off and pushes away nicely.
Massey fakes a head punch and goes low to the body. Nicely done.

The fight stays on the outside here - Ballard looks like he's thinking about clinching though.
Massey avoids the clinch attempt nicely.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.

Ross Massey has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Ben Ballard.
Massey shoots in looking for a takedown but Ballard manages to keep the fight standing, pushing Massey's face into the canvas for good measure before circling away.

The crowd are showing their displeasure at the lack of action as loud boos ring out around the arena.
Ballard is working from a closed guard but he's struggling to control his opponent.

The referee has stepped in and called for a break in the action. We'll restart on the feet.

Massey shoots in but no luck this time.

Ballard instigates a clinch.
Massey is looking to take this one to the mat.

The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Ballard is trying to keep Massey in close.
The fighters are starting to get a bit slippery now, which will make submissions a bit more difficult.
Ballard wants to control but instead he gets his guard passed and Massey is now in half guard.

Ballard is pressing down on Massey's left leg trying to get back to full guard. He's managed it.

That's the end of the interval. I'm sure that seemed a lot quicker than a minute for our two fighters! Back to the action.


Ballard goes for a double leg but Massey avoids the attempt and the two fighters end up clinched against the cage as Massey continues to drive forward.
Ballard drops down looking for an ankle pick but Massey pulls his leg out and moves away.

It looks like Ben Ballard has been cut.
Massey shoots in for a takedown. "I don't think so" says Ballard as he avoids it easily.
Massey is really dominating this fight. Is there anything that Ballard can do to turn this around?
Ballard tries to land with a swinging hook to the body but Massey was well out of range. Poor timing from Ballard.

We get told so often about how wrestlers don't like to be on their backs. Let's see if Ballard can do anything to dispel that myth.

There's not a lot going on here and the crowd are letting the fighters know they're not willing to tolerate a lack of action.

Massey is thinking about an arm triangle here, looking to tighten it up before moving to side control. Ballard can see it coming though and defends well with a couple of strikes to the head and some good arm positioning.

That's time! Massey's corner gives him a slap on the ass as he gets ready to fight. So, we enter the final round. Let's see if either fighter can bring us a finish, or whether we're going to the judges scorecards.


Massey tries to close the distance and clinch up against the cage but Ballard paws at him with a jab and circles away.
Horrible takedown attempt by Ballard or perhaps it was just good defense by Massey, which made it look bad.

Ballard is looking for an arm triangle, whilst trying to pass to side control. Massey doesn't seem that keen to cooperate though. No luck this time Ballard.

The crowd are hurling abuse towards the fighters... You can hardly blame them though because there isn't a lot going on in the fight.
Massey scrambles, trying to get to his feet, but Ballard manages to mount him!

Ben Ballard comfortably won the final round on my scorecard.
Well Massey has outscored his opponent in every aspect of the fight today. Only a scarily incompetent judge or two will keep him from a well deserved win... Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
