The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Nice sprawl there from Artemis as Paterno shoots in.
Artemis keeps the fight standing with a nice sprawl.
Paterno shoots for a double leg takedown but Artemis sprawls well. He's pushed Paterno's face into the mat and manages to get back to his feet relatively easily.
That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Massimo Paterno. That's going to take a lot out of him.
Artemis plants his feet and lands a nice head kick!

It looks like Massimo Paterno has been cut.
No luck with that takedown attempt from Paterno.
Paterno checks a low kick from Artemis.
Paterno circles away from the clinch attempt.
Artemis will need to close the distance a bit before he attacks - that leg kick was thrown from too far away.
Nice takedown defense from Artemis. No joy for Paterno on that attempt.
Paterno takes a nice looking leg kick right on the meat of his thigh there.

Artemis tries to clinch up

and Paterno counters with a shoot takedown into half guard.
Artemis looks more muscular than last time we saw him. He must have been on the weights.
This has been an exciting period of action!

Paterno is working for a submission of some sort.
Artemis really doesn't want to stay on the ground with Paterno. If he can't get it back to his feet, it's only a matter of time before he'll be tapping out.
Artemis wants to get back to full guard.
The fighters are trapped in the ropes so we're going to have a reposition here. The ref calls for a break and repositions the fighters in the center of the ring.

Paterno wants to work for an arm triangle but Artemis is really keeping half guard well and defending the submission attempt.

Paterno looking for a kimura but he'll have to free his other leg if he wants to finish that. Perhaps he's just using it as a distraction technique.
Artemis is looking for a sweep. Paterno is wise to his cunning plan and keeps the top position.
The fighters are tangled up in the ropes here. We might need a restart if the fighters can't break free themselves.
Artemis is still trying to improve position.

Artemis is looking to get back to full guard here but Paterno has managed to pass to side control instead.

Paterno tries for an arm triangle. That looks pretty tight to me. Is this one over!?! Possibly, maybe, no Paterno has let go of the choke. Obviously it wasn't as tight as we thought!
Artemis is a painfully thin specimen of a man. You do wonder whether a good body kick would snap him clean in two.
Artemis is looking to reverse the position.

Paterno wants to work for a kimura but he's foiled early by Artemis, who protects the arm well.
Paterno looks to be in better condition than last time we saw him fight. Obviously he's been working hard on his cardio.
Artemis tries to improve position but can't.
Paterno wants to control but Artemis is keeping him busy.
Artemis stops Paterno from passing to mount.
The fighters are going at a pretty good pace and they're both starting to sweat now.
Paterno is looking to take a break and control but Artemis is keeping him honest, looking to work from the bottom.

Artemis wants to control the position but that's not easy when your opponent is in side control! Paterno seems to be going for some sort of submission here. Hard to say what - oh, it's a Brabo choke! He's got it! Artemis is tapping! Wow, great finish!
