PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a welterweight MMA rules bout between Sol Morse (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Brantley Duke (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). On his way into the cage it seems that Sol Morse has been attacked by a crazed fan! It looks like it might have been the just bleed guy! Luckily Sol Morse seems to be OK! I thought that lunatic was in prison!?

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the welterweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 0 - 1 - 1, fighting out of New York, Sol Morse!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of New York, Brantley Duke!
The judges for this bout are Lou da Vinci, Jorge Garcia and Columbo Gatti.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!

Duke closes the distance, clinches up and gets a nice trip takedown into side control. Very smooth.
Duke staying calm.
Morse tries to improve position but can't.
Duke landing a few strikes.
Duke happy to just control the position for now.
Morse could do with losing a few pounds - he looks very soft around the mid section, to put it politely.

Duke looking for an arm triangle but it's way too loose to do anything.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Duke tries to stand but Morse is controlling his head.

That's one minute gone in the round.
Duke is chipping away with strikes.
A lull in the action here.
Duke tries to move to mount but Morse blocks the move with his legs.
Duke is staying tight to Morse's torso, preventing him from escaping.
Morse sneaks back into half guard.

That's two minutes gone in the round.
A few boos can be heard. I'm sure they will multiply if the fighters don't pick up the pace.
Duke seems content to maintain position for now, rather than mounting any offense.
The fighters are going at a pretty good pace and they're both starting to sweat now.
Morse has a hand on Duke's thigh, trying to get back to full guard. Duke takes advantage of the position though and mounts him!
Duke scores with a couple of good head shots there.

That's three minutes gone in the round.
Morse wants to improve position but instead he's given up his back.

Morse is displaying good submission defense - not really looking in danger of submitting to the rear naked choke at the moment. That could change in an instant of course if Duke gets his way!

Duke has his opponent's back and is working for the choke.

It looks like Duke might be adopting somewhat of a lay and pray gameplan here, which I'm sure won't go down too well with the paying fans in attendance... Or the ring announcers come to think of it.

Morse fending off the submission attempt from Duke.
Duke is looking cool and calm here, just waiting for a good opportunity to attack and finish the fight from this dominant position.
Morse can't escape the position.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Brantley Duke dominated that round.
That's the end of the round. The referee orders the cornermen out of the cage so we can get back down to business.



Excellent takedown into side control there by Duke.

Duke stands up and we're back to a striking position.

Duke darts in and lands a nice takedown into half guard.
Duke prevents Morse from improving his position.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Duke wants to free his trapped foot but Morse is holding on for dear life with his legs.
Duke is looking to pass the guard... He's managed it - he's now in full mount!

It looks like Sol Morse has been cut.
Morse might be looking to lock onto one of his opponent's long limbs for a submission, whilst we're on the ground.
Duke content just to control the position here.
Duke's corner are shouting for him to control the position and he seems happy to oblige.
Duke scoring with strikes but Morse is staying in there.

That's two minutes gone in the round.
Morse is desperately trying to get back to half guard.
A nice elbow there by Duke.


Morse is rocked!

Duke swings around for an armbar and he's got it! Wow, that came out of nowhere! What a finish!
