The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Maldonado Jr shoots in for a takedown. "I don't think so" says Venancio as he avoids it easily.
Venancio throws a head kick but Maldonado Jr moves out of range.
Venancio closes the distance and lands a one-two.

It looks like Fabian Omar Federico Maldonado Jr has been cut.
Venancio just misses with a punch to the body.
Venancio bobs and weaves well there to avoid the strikes.
A punch combination from Venancio misses.
Maldonado Jr throws a low kick but it's checked well by Venancio.

Maldonado Jr darts in and lands a nice takedown into half guard.
Maldonado Jr is taking a breather. Venancio says something to him but it's hard to make out. Perhaps he's telling him to get on with it and actually do something.
Venancio has his hands clasped together around Maldonado Jr's back. He's all about the action.

Venancio is positioning himself to get back to half guard.
Venancio is putting a lot of effort into getting back to his feet here.
A bit of a lull in the action. I'm sure it will pick up again soon... even if the ref has to physically pick them up and put them back on their feet.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.

Venancio felt the need to train up his defensive grappling in the buildup to the fight. Presumably he was expecting to be in a difficult position like this, so let's see if he can get out of it.
Venancio really doesn't want to stay on the ground with Maldonado Jr. If he can't get it back to his feet, it's only a matter of time before he'll be tapping out.

The crowd are hurling abuse towards the fighters... You can hardly blame them though because there isn't a lot going on in the fight.
Venancio wants to get back to his feet but Maldonado Jr drags him back down.
Venancio wants to control but Maldonado Jr postures up.

The referee has motioned to the fighters to stand back up. He just wasn't happy with the level of activity.
Brutus Venancio seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.
Venancio throws a head kick that misses and slips in the process. He scrambles back to his feet and the fighters circle.
Maldonado Jr tries a switch kick but it misses it's target.
Maldonado Jr wants to clinch up but Venancio keeps it at a distance.
Venancio fakes and then throws a beautiful body shot. Maldonado Jr looks a bit winded and takes a step backwards to take a breath.
Maldonado Jr is breathing heavily.
Venancio throws a nice looking combination but Maldonado Jr bobs and weaves to avoid any damage.

Venancio drops Maldonado Jr with a beautiful combination! Maldonado Jr stares up at his opponent, who ushers him back to his feet - Venancio is looking for the KO!
Venancio closes the distance and lands a crisp combination that knocks Maldonado Jr out cold! Maldonado Jr corner are devastated, head in hands behind our commentary position. Poor guys.
