PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a featherweight MMA rules bout between Connor McGregoat (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Yo Bo (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). McGregoat has a slight injury, which hopefully won't affect the fight too much. Over to our ring announcer for the fighter introductions!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the featherweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 3 - 2 - 0, fighting out of Helsinki, Connor McGregoat!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Helsinki, Yo Bo!
The judges for this bout are Marco Blurström, Anni Minnemäki and Matti Vanhoillinen.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!

Bo drives through with a takedown into guard.
Bo trying to control the position from guard on top but McGregoat is wriggling around, looking for whatever he can.
Bo stays in close to McGregoat's body and controls the position.

McGregoat looking for a guillotine here but Bo defends easily.

McGregoat working from the bottom, still in full guard. He's managed to get a loose triangle. Bo doesn't seem to be doing much to defend here, obviously he feels comfortable in the position. Bo manages to throw the legs off his shoulder and he's back into guard - no problem.
McGregoat is breathing heavily.

Bo decides he's had enough of playing guard and decides to stand. Come on McGregoat, up you get!
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
McGregoat throws a head kick that misses and slips in the process. He scrambles back to his feet and the fighters circle.
Bo lands a nice shot to the body.
Bo tries to drive through with a takedown attempt but McGregoat defends well and Bo ends up having to push McGregoat into the cage where they will battle it out in the clinch.

Bo breaks the clinch and we're back to striking at distance.
Connor McGregoat seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.

A momentary lapse in concentration from McGregoat enables Bo to shoot in and score with a neat double leg. McGregoat manages to secure a closed guard as the fighters hit the mat.

McGregoat working from the bottom, still in full guard. He's managed to get a loose triangle. Bo doesn't seem to be doing much to defend here, obviously he feels comfortable in the position. Bo manages to throw the legs off his shoulder and he's back into guard - no problem.

McGregoat is working an open guard so Bo takes the opportunity to get back to his feet.

Bo lands a couple of decent looking shots.
Bo stands and throws McGregoat's legs to the side, diving into side control.

Bo decides to take the fight back to the feet.
McGregoat defends well against a solid takedown attempt from Bo.
McGregoat stuffs a takedown. It's all about dictating where the fight takes place and McGregoat wants it to stay on the feet.
Connor McGregoat has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Yo Bo.
Bo feints and then cracks McGregoat's leading leg with a nice low kick. He's obviously looking to slow McGregoat down.
Wooooo! Give it up for these two warriors! They are putting on a show!
McGregoat shoots in with a takedown attempt and he has Bo pinned against the cage. Bo gets the underhooks and manages to circle away.
Bo scores with a head kick. McGregoat tried to block it but didn't get his arm up in time.

Bo looking to pass the half guard. Not this time.
Bo is figuring out what he wants to do next.

Bo stands up out of the half guard.
McGregoat tries to drive through with a takedown attempt but Bo defends well and McGregoat ends up having to push Bo into the cage where they will battle it out in the clinch.

Bo works for the underhooks and manages to get a trip takedown into guard.

McGregoat is looking for a guillotine. You can't force these things though and Bo defends well.
Bo is just sitting in guard, looking to avoid any submissions.

Bo wants to control from the top but McGregoat keeps moving.

Bo cracks McGregoat with an elbow. That is naaassty.

McGregoat is looking for a sweep.

McGregoat takes a couple of big shots there - the referee warns him that he has to defend himself better.
McGregoat tries to bench press Bo off him but Bo keeps the position.
Bo wants to control but McGregoat is keeping him busy.

Bo in side control lands a nice looking series of punches and elbows.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
McGregoat is looking to reverse the position.
Bo connects with a decent looking elbow from side control that caused McGregoat some visible discomfort.
McGregoat definitely looks more muscular than last time we saw him fight.
McGregoat is looking to regain half guard here but Bo keeps moving and retains side control.
Bo wants to control but McGregoat is keeping him busy.

Bo tries for a kimura. Not really close to a finish though.

The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.

Bo is maintaining the dominant position - no doubt McGregoat will start to get frustrated soon if he's not already.

Yo Bo showed his class in that round. I'd imagine he'll take it on all the scorecards.
That's time! Back to the action! This is the final round!


McGregoat throws a sloppy head kick
and Bo counters with a one-two to the body.

Bo closes the distance and pushes McGregoat back into the cage.

Bo's corner calls for him to break the clinch, which he does.

Bo jumps into guard, dragging McGregoat to the mat.
Both fighters are breathing heavily.
Fantastic stuff here - a very entertaining period of action, which has drawn cheers from the crowd.
Bo throws a couple of weedy looking strikes off his back.

Bo wants to stand and escape but McGregoat is having none of it.
McGregoat postures up in Bo's guard and throws a big left but Bo blocks it.
Bo looking to control.
Bo has his hands on McGregoat's head, controlling the position.
McGregoat throwing strikes but missing.
McGregoat is looking to work some ground and pound but Bo has wrist control.
Bo looking for a sweep. Not yet Bo, not yet.

The referee decides to stand the fighters back up.

McGregoat shoots in for a takedown from distance. He catches Bo napping and manages to drive through into side control!
Yo Bo has got the better of the ground game so far.
Bo throwing some weak shots from the bottom that do no damage.

McGregoat in the domination position with Bo hanging on.
Bo is sneaking out the side here. He's bucked McGregoat off and has taken his back!

Bo is looking to finish the fight by rear naked choke. McGregoat knows exactly what he's got planned though, so he's defending well. Maybe a few strikes would soften McGregoat for a finish.

McGregoat is working hard here to advance position.
Will Bo go for the finish here or will he try and keep control of the position?

McGregoat defends a rear naked choke attempt by controlling one of Bo's arms.
McGregoat tries to escape the position - he's now mounted. Is that better or worse? Hard to tell!

McGregoat is desperately trying to get back to half guard.
McGregoat tries to improve his position but instead Bo has taken his back!

Bo has his opponent's back and is working for the choke.
McGregoat manages to reverse the position and now he's in Bo's guard. Nice work there by McGregoat.

Bo has a loose triangle. He'll be looking to tighten that up but McGregoat can see exactly what he's planning and manages to posture up and free himself.
Bo looking to sweep here. No luck so far.

Bo looking for submissions off his back, moving his hips, looking for an opening.
McGregoat sneaks a leg through and gets to half guard. That was like a knife through butter how easily he passed Bo's guard.
McGregoat landing with strikes to the body and head, softening up his opponent.
McGregoat throwing shots but they're hitting the canvas more than the man.
McGregoat thumps the canvas. Not on purpose obviously - he just missed Bo's head.
Bo moves into full guard.
McGregoat missing there with some ground and pound from the guard.
Yo Bo is fighting for a decision - hopefully he's judged it right and he's actually winning the fight.
Bo not looking particularly offensive just at the moment.

And that's the end of the fight!
Yo Bo comfortably won the final round on my scorecard.
Well Bo has outworked and out performed his opponent in all aspects of the game today. He was simply too good and the decision should be no more than a formality. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
