PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a light heavyweight MMA rules bout between Georgy Fokin (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Arvo Laar (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). The crowd seem to be enjoying Laar's choice of entrance music: some random 90's estonia dance song i found on youtube. Over to our ring announcer for the fighter introductions!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the light heavyweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 8 - 4 - 0, fighting out of Amsterdam, Georgy Fokin!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 14 - 13 - 0, fighting out of Las Vegas, Arvo Laar!
The judges for this bout are Jonathan Paton, Eddie Farnsworth and Columbo Gatti.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Fokin tries to land a leg kick but Laar saw it coming and moves away.
Laar fakes a jab and throws a low kick but Fokin checks it well.
Laar goes for a spinning back kick but it misses.
Laar keeps the fight standing with a nice sprawl.
Fokin misses with a body shot. Nice footwork from Laar.
Laar throws a predictable looking body shot

and Fokin counters with a nice double leg into guard.
Fokin passes into half guard.
Fokin works his way into side control.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
Fokin wants to control but Laar is keeping him busy.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.

Fokin tries for an arm triangle. That looks pretty tight to me. Is this one over!?! Possibly, maybe, no Fokin has let go of the choke. Obviously it wasn't as tight as we thought!

Fokin swings around for an armbar but Laar sees it coming a mile off and turns beautifully into Fokin's guard.
Laar tries to stand but Fokin is controlling from the bottom.
Fokin is working an open guard here, looking to improve his position. No doubt that will leave him open to counters but at least he's being more offensive.
My spies in Miletich Xtreme Fighting Systems inform me that Laar has been getting involved in the gym's BJJ sparring sessions. Let's see whether that pays dividends!

Laar wants to stand up but Fokin is controlling him.

Laar has a loose triangle. He'll be looking to tighten that up but Fokin can see exactly what he's planning and manages to posture up and free himself.

Laar wants to sweep but no luck.
Laar is persisting with the attempt to improve his position.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Fokin prevents Laar from getting back to his feet.
A big thud reverberates around the arena there as Fokin accidentally thumps the mat. Hopefully he's not broken his hand.

The ref stands the fighters back up due to a lack of activity.

A few boos can be heard. I'm sure they will multiply if the fighters don't pick up the pace.
Fokin moves out of range of the body kick.
Laar throws out a powerful jab.
Fokin shoots in looking for a takedown. Laar tries to sprawl out of it but Fokin keeps driving through. The fighters are pinned against the cage. Laar manages to get underhooks and after a bit of a struggle, circles away and we're back to standing.

Laar is looking to stand up but Fokin isn't so interested in that idea.
The crowd thankful this round is nearly over.

Fokin is standing up over Laar. Laar looks to escape but Fokin dives into side control.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

The fighters' corners scream their final instructions, as the referee calls time. Here we go, back to the action!


Laar ducks low and lands a nice hook to the body of his opponent.
Laar thuds a left hand into Fokin's body.
Fokin stumbles momentarily as he takes a strong leg kick from Laar.
Laar throws a body punch but Fokin moves out of range.
Fokin lands a powerful looking uppercut that connected with his opponent's jaw.
Laar looks to land a right hand but Fokin moved out of range.
Laar misses with a body kick.
Laar tries to land a front kick but Fokin steps back. That was a bit too telegraphed.
Fokin is really dominating this fight. Is there anything that Laar can do to turn this around?

Arvo Laar seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.

Laar misses with a half-hearted attempt at a head kick.
Fokin throws a body punch but Laar moves out of range.
Laar pulls out of a head kick attempt.
Laar on the wrong end of a vicious looking body shot.

Fokin closes the distance, clinches up and gets a nice trip takedown into side control. Very smooth.
Laar pushes Fokin away and creates a bit of space to escape. He's almost out here... but no, Fokin gets a good hold of his legs and remains firmly in side control.
Georgy Fokin overall seems to be getting the better of the ground position in the fight so far.
Fokin laying and praying for a moment but Laar takes advantage and regains half guard.

Fokin is working for submissions here but there's nothing on.
Laar wants to get back to full guard.

Fokin seems to be looking for submissions.
Laar trying to hold on to Fokin's head to control him but Fokin postures up.
Laar scrambles, trying to get to his feet, but Fokin manages to mount him!
Laar tries to get back to half guard but can't.
We've seen a great period of action over the last minute or so - credit to both fighters for going all out!

Laar is desperately trying to improve his position but Fokin has a good base and remains in mount.

Laar wants to try and get back to his feet.
Fokin prevents Laar from getting the reversal.

Fokin looks like he's working for a submission but he's not found anything just yet.
Laar is bucking up trying to escape but Fokin cracks him with another couple of good strikes.
Fokin cracks Laar with a nasty head shot there - the crowd let out an audible gasp there, as the noise reverberated around the arena.

Laar is trying to get to the cage to help him get back to his feet.

Fantastic stuff here - a very entertaining period of action, which has drawn cheers from the crowd.

OK. That's time! The bell goes and we're back to the action. The crowd applaud as we get ready to start the final round!

Laar moves his head to the side to avoid a jab but walks straight into a cross.

Laar lands with a nice low kick. That'll leave a bruise.
Fokin takes a step back and watches a body kick go sailing past his mid section.

and Fokin decides to take the opportunity to score a takedown. He's landed in Laar's guard.
Fokin wants to control from the top but Laar keeps moving.
Fokin has been looking to land a fair amount of strikes on the ground. He might be looking to soften his opponent up in order to work for a submission.
Laar is looking to get back to his feet but can't, whilst Fokin is controlling him.
Fokin passes into half guard.

Fokin looking for a submission but Laar manages to get full guard, putting an end to that submission attempt.
Fokin stands up and looks to throw the legs aside to pass to side control. Laar swivels though and keeps the full guard.
Wooooo! Give it up for these two warriors! They are putting on a show!
Laar looking to sweep using the butterfly guard but Fokin puts pay to that idea as he passes nicely into half guard.
Fokin winds up and cracks Laar with a swinging punch to the side of the head.
Arvo Laar has stepped it up - he knows he needs a finish here!
Fokin is keen to just control but Laar is a slippery customer.

And that's the end of the fight!
Arvo Laar comfortably won the final round on my scorecard.
I think Fokin has won this one but let's see what the judges have to say. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
