The bell rings for round one and we are underway!

Kosugi takes a body punch that cleary hurt but he's trying not to show any weakness.

Lister fakes high and shoots in for a takedown but Kosugi avoids it really well and circles away.

Kosugi lands a left hand that snaps the head of Lister backwards.
Lister stops a takedown attempt from Kosugi.

This has been an exciting period of action!
Kosugi is working an open guard here, looking to improve his position. No doubt that will leave him open to counters but at least he's being more offensive.
Lister looking to sit in guard and control but Kosugi gets the butterfly guard and sweeps. He's now in the guard on the top.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.

The corners get their ten second warning. Both fighters stand from their stools and stare eachother down, ready to get back to the action.
Lister fails in his attempt to clinch.
Kosugi closes the distance and clinches up, looking for a takedown. He shifts his weight and gets a nice trip into half guard.
Kosugi is looking for a kimura. It's pretty deep but Lister still has the half guard so he's probably OK. Oh, Lister has exploded into a beautiful escape there and after a quick scramble, he's ended up in side control on top! Nice work!
Lister wants to control but Kosugi is keeping him busy.
We've been hearing good reports from Lister's training camp. Apparently he has been rolling around with some good quality BJJ practitioners and has been sharpening his skills. Let's see if that has an impact on the fight today.

That was a close round. You could make an argument for either fighter but I would give it to Lime Lister.
I think Kosugi has won this one but let's see whether the judges agree with me. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
